I give my daugher;

1 sandwich - can be ham, jam or marmite
1 piece of fruit - can be an apple a banana, a few grapes or a pear
1 sweet - which can be 1 mini yoghurt, small kitkat bar or mini packet of biscuits
1 carton of fruit juice

~Where's "here" & Whats your idea of a "full meal"?

~I fill my son's packed lunch almost similar to Chaircover's W/ the exception of Marmite. . added to that,I use Pre-packed Lunch meals & a variety of Sandwhich fillers:

~Chicken & Sweetcorn
~Tuna Sweetcorn & Mayo
~Cheese/Chocolate Spread

Yeap. But Spanish Style.

You do an egg wash and than you get a pan.
You pour the egg wash very thinly on the pan and sprinkle spring onions and mushroom (to be chopped finely)
and fry it and toss it the other way so its like a pancake but thinner.
And than in the middle of the egg, u can put some cheese or some sliced bacon and some chopped parsley and than you fold it nicely like a dumpling. It will look like a finger food in the end of the day. My mom use to make that for me for school as a packed lunch.

@Topic,

the Ideal would be fruits, veggies and water or 100% natural fruit juice.

Full meal. . .  hmm. Is that really advisable? How long is he in school for?

Jollof rice, or fried rice, or rice and stew

Mashed potato, steak/sausages and gravy

Fried plantain

Pasta

Pastries

Sandwiches [u can make him like 5 slices if your worried he'll remain hungry lol]

Avoid eggs, and beans, so he doesn't get bullied.  Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed

Kids don't exactly eat as much as adults, so a small plate of rice won't exactly make the child put on that much weight, or have a heart attack. At the end of the day, he does loads of exercise at school by running around. I don't think such meal will kill him. Undecided Undecided

He can have salad and fish when he gets home; something healthy anyway.

I wonder when obesity starts, i dont think its just happens on an adult. Undecided
and its really sad you should mention heart-attack,
i had a family friend who died at 25 of a heart-attack, he was tall, fine and lean (not thin/underweight)
one doesnt have to 'put on weight' to have health problems

and i think healthy living should start from childhood
most of our parents weren't enlightened, i don't think we have any excuse now.

Dont get me wrong though (some carbs arent bad) but giving your child steak?? c'mon.

Mohawk and Chaircover's package is more of what you should emulate.
A vegetable, A fruit and some form of meat, i wouldnt go with Ham or Tuna though.

Those are all nice, but the sweet could backfire, as it can make some kids hyper.

Like Fhemmmy said, Sweets could trigger ADD

also avoid;

chocolate bars
Potato crisps
Sweet drinks
Donuts and cakes
Lollies, chocolate spread and jams

The Essentials;

Vegetables:  carrot, corn, peas or cucumbers.
Fruit: Fresh, or tinned fruit in natural juice
Dairy : Cheese, Yoghurt (natural or fruit) like Chaircover suggested
Protein : – slice of meat (chicken,beef), hard-boiled egg or beans
Carbs – bread, roll, fruit bread or crackers

Water or Milk, some fruit juice could be too sweet.

Diff between steak and beef?  Undecided Obviously I don't expect her to give the kid 100kg of meat. At the end of the day your grilling it, and not frying.

If a pack of biscuits, like someone suggested, will cause ADD then u wont give your kid that, but until it happens sweets wont kill the kid. Your not exactly filling his lunch box with sweets.  Undecided Undecided Undecided You guys are being too strict on a kid's diet. . .dayuuum.

I know I wont be too pleased if my parents give me sandwich as my lunch. Lips sealed Lips sealed Even schools feed the kids pasta! Just make it as healthy as u can.

Then again, it depends on the metabolism of the person cos from now till tomorrow I can keep eating steak without putting on weight.

You dont have to put on weight to get dead.

i guess, it depends on the type of steak.
first thing that came to my mind. . .lol, not a goodlook.

Theres no ban on sweets and such,
but they shouldnt be packed as a reg.

we are talking Ideal here anyway, healthy suggestions

God! But it doesn't mean I'm gonna go stand in the middle of the road, or drink FAT!

But yeah, I eat reasonably and will feed my kids reasonably.

She wanted MEALS for her kid, and I listed meals for her. . .I don't even have a kid. And the food my child will eat will be decided by my husband and I.
Besides it's not like I'm gonna wake up in the morning to make steak. Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided

I Totally agree.

We are talking school age kids here and not toddlers.

Gererally speaking school age kids should be able tolerate a balanced diet. Age 6 - 16

When I said sweet, I was not rererring to a handful goody goody or bazooka but meant a dessert of some sort, which could be a yougurt, mini biscuits, jelly or something.

Those of us that pack school dinners on a daily basis know that our offsping somethines ask for a particular sweet not because they intend eating it but because Amy or John has it in his lunch box & these things sometimes change on a weekly basis.

The teachers make the kids eat the healthy food first and the not so healthy food last, buy which point the kids want to go out and play so most times my daughter brings back home her sweet and we could end up recycling a kit kat finger for 2 weeks!
