Broadband Internet Services in Nigeria
« on: June 06, 2005, 08:02 PM »

A friend and I got into this argument recently about the absence or otherwise of broadband services in Nigeria.  I recently discovered one or two companies who claim to be offering it in the country.  Has anyone made use of a broadband link here and what was the experience like?

Can you name the companies and give us a few details about their offerings?  I bet they are using NITEL's IP Wholesale service (first mentioned here).

Most ISPs in Nigeria have long claimed to offering broadband (on their web sites) even before NITEL's IP Wholesale was announced. Even one state in 2003 (I think its Taraba Huh) claimed it had built a broadband facility. Lie lie lie all. Shocked

I'm interested in learning how NITEL IP Wholesale works. I hope Delontorus who seem to have some knowledge of NITEL's services will give full detail.

I don't know if what you guys are talking about is broadband as in xdsl. This in the UK is provided at the telphone exchange level and once the exchange is enabled, if you are within a certain distance from the exchange, you can get broadband which means you can use your internet and the phone at the same time.

Is this the same kind of service being touted? Cos this obviously cannot be done without NITEL and the minimum speed for ADSL is 512

Any one need any clarity visit www.adslguide.org

There are various companies that have broadband services but the problem is that these guys are focused to companies not individual users so it costs an arm and a leg.

There is cyberspace, VGC communications, you have Cobranet and a new company in town Netcom Africa which claims it's giving 3G. The only problem is the fact most of these guys cater for the rich living on the Island.

we are using adsl in my country, which provide you at least 512k/s access to the internet, we can even watch online movies. and the charges is queit cheap, 1200naira per month without time limit.  i hope that Nigeria can bring this tech into. by that time, internet will be necessities for every nigerian.

Everyone, you need to go and find out about ITCLICK Networx. They specialise in Broadband Internet Access, Voice over IP, Wireless internet service etc. Though I am not much of a technical person, I have come in contact with a lot of people using this service provider and I have been made to understand that they offer some of the best Services around.

Is there any broadband ISP in Lagos apart from MyNetcom?

To Seun's question, it is only when you have not been to another man's farm that you claim that your father's farm is the biggest.

MyNetcom is okay, no doubt but I am telling Nairalnders that there are better ISP's in Nigeria. For instance, there is this ITClick Networx Limited that a lot of people(users) have been commending, especially people in V.I,lekki, Apapa, Ikeja, Abuja, magodo, Lagos island and Maryland. Apart from giving you peace of mind at a competitive price, they also give you good customer service and technical supports.

I have seen friends using them and I hope to get connected to them as soon as my business is up and running fully, I don't want anything that will give me headache, so I will go for ITClick.

My question was "Is there any broadband ISP in Lagos apart from MyNetcom?"

Your answer should simply have been: "Yes. ITClick Networx Limited is one".  Are we fighting or something? Huh

Thanks.  I keep forgetting the name of the main rival to MyNetcom.  Is any ISP currently using fiber bandwidth?

well only NITEL has fiber via SAT-3  4-now and they o'ly connect Big Firms (NO to ISP
4- now)

though 21century has but it's not public
Glo, Mtn and VGC are doing there own but only for their use at the moment

but who needs Fiber speed for now? with the cost and our current use of internet Broadband V-SAT and Dail-up is doing well ( no be to send and recieve email and attachment. MY Broder(sic) no go Fiber yet Grin Grin

If the fiber is available, then we should be allowed to use it.  This monopolization of fiber, if true, is robbery.

Please place the price of this connection and test the speed with this site http://promos.mcafee.com/speedometer/test_0150.asp

and if you get an average of 10.8 KBps or  as in 86.4 kbps note! the small b and the capital B are diffrent scales
you can test up to 10 times and take your average as the true reading here is my out put as pasted
if you beat mine then you have a good link form swift.

beat 10.8 KBps or  as in 86.4 kbps  and i will join you look at the time i did my test in the computer time bar in that snap shot so do your in the morning too my is constant even in the afternoon when internet use is high i still get this average
but in the night i get  11.7 KBps and i pay just =N=12. 000 monthly 24hours a day.

so who is losing?(because am gaing money,   Speed saving Time, +heavy download all at at time, and my Isp has been supporting me since 2003 till date and no stress attached. i even pay at the end of the month unlike other isp that force u to pay before u use.)
just have a look at the picture speed man
