Re: How To Avoid The Smell Of Crayfish by nat138: 11:28pm On Jun 08, 2010
Grind the crayfish and put it in an airtight container or food bags and put it in the fridge/refrigerator
or just where you usually put other food stuff.
cheers!
Re: How To Avoid The Smell Of Crayfish by oyinda3(f): 11:31pm On Jun 08, 2010
i put it in nylon bags (multiple!) tied it and put it in the refridgerator.

i didn't want to grind it because i like them ungrinded so i can chew it in my soup.
does it have to be grinded? because i will grind it if i have to. i hate the stink

You're laughing.
Re: How To Avoid The Smell Of Crayfish by oyinda3(f): 2:08am On Jun 09, 2010
should i start crying? lol

anyways, my decision is i will leave the crayfish there tied in nylon bags in the freezer.
and i'll buy baking soda and leave it open in the freezer to remove odors.
Re: How To Avoid The Smell Of Crayfish by nat138: 2:27am On Jun 09, 2010
@ Oyinda,
Well if u want the crayfish whole in your food, then you just have to bear with the smell of the crayfish or better still get air tight containers and put it in them and then put in the fridge.
but if you really want to get rid of the smell, your best bet is to grind it up and put in air tight containers/ food bags and put in the fridge.
Cheers!

Why are you keeping crayfish in your room and around your clothes?
Dont you have a kitchen?

put it inside a plastic bag and keep one box of baking soda inside the plastic bag. it'll diminish the smell.

it's now in my kitchen. tied up in the fridge
at the time when i made the post I was snacking on it in my room. and when I left and came back the smell was really strong. that's when i realized i had a problem. now i will only use it to cook. definitely won't be bringing it to my room or leaving it out in the open around the house.

anyways, my main concern is that I have non-nigerian friends and visitors around all the time. crayfish smell is the last thing i want the house to smell like.

i don't really want baking soda mixing with my crayfish  undecided
I would rather leave it open separately in the fridge which is what i'm already doing.

thanks Nat138 & Sissy. I have made my decision not to grind it but i will put it in the freezer.

thanks all!!!

Hon, the bking soda does not mix with your food. it's in a box, with a small pore opening that allows it to react with the stink air of the crayfish, eliminating the odor.

Snacking on creyfish? dnt think your clothes and room is the last thing you gotta worry abt tongue

Anywayz, this is how the box looks. . . .

You think Nigerians will tolerate the smell of crayfish in your room, think again. Nigerians only use crayfish for cooking and not for spraying their rooms. It belongs to the kitchen and dishes and not to the living and bed rooms. Be warned otherwise your boyfriend might think u have infection. sad

lol, funny. i think soaking it with garri is better than plain chewing. i dont like crayfish either way though.

Oyin, na so u miss am reach abi na broke student like me u be  cheesy

now intro vinegar into ur room. pour vinegar in a bowl and put it by ur dresser or table and watch the stank disappear, put crayrarafish in fridge with a box of baking soda.
Re: How To Avoid The Smell Of Crayfish by Basildon1(m): 3:36pm On Jun 09, 2010
I dont think you should be snacking on it though, i know it is well exposed before being packaged and you never know what might have settled on it. It is usually even washed before cooked along with food

You really chewed them like that? Funny that u should complain about the smell after that, considering the fact that ur breath will stink. grin grin grin

[b]Excused me! What do you mean by "that Nigerian smell?", If Nigeria has got smell I'm very sorry, indeed!  People are not proud of who they are because they have issue - the Michael J's of this world. This is how Nigerians undermine themselves and blame others for it.  Since you have so low self esteem of your own culture why bother?

There's nothing wrong with our food and my beautiful crispy, curvy and naturally preserved Nigerian crayfish (with no additive) and whose flavour is out of this world, you can't compare!!!  So, how could anyone rubbish my Nigeria crayfish, I wonder!

May be, there's a cultural identity issue to address here hope you resolve it and leave our crayfish alone. In fact, Ms Crayfish say I should inform you, since you appreciate her taste and not her smell that the dislike is mutual and, perhaps, you should LEAVE HER ALONE NOW, than coming here to abuse her! cool cool cool cool cool cool

Finally, on a personal note, aside the message, always preserve our beautiful curvy Nigerian lady (blended or whole) in your freezer that way, you'd be happy and she too. grin grin grin grin grin
