@ davidylan I would have you know say my knowledge pass tennis. You dey look rennaisance black man for here. Literature, politics, sports, the whole enchilada. So all Chimamanda has to do is keep being herself. If na phonetics, she never jam. By the time we finish, her moans will be heard not only in Rochester but the whole of New England.

CHIMAMANDA NGOZI ADICHIE
she is a good writer with a very serious and unique style of writing.
if u fell in love with her after u read purple hibiscus
then u will unfall inlove if u read half of a yellow sun.
i must give it to her for her books, good narratives but a little too sad,am waiting for her to actually write a more happy novel but i was bawled over when i read purple hibiscus the novel was GOOD.

beautiful yes but have u read anyhing bout her biography she likes to be alone, she is sort of a loner so trust me u wont get alot of things done if u alone with her and the crush might probably wear out with due time.
but u could still keep the fire burning! Cool

She is seriously beautiful ke? If you come see seriously beautiful nko? How much did she get for winning the award sef? I used to think i was her fan but i didnt know she won an award already. I know she was nominated for her "purple hibiscus", did she get nomintaed again for "half of a yellow sun"?
I also happened to notice that her books always ends tragically,i think i mentioned that on one of the threads. . . .like she has a sad and unhappy personal life or something. . .

Chimamanda Adicihie writes literary fiction.
"happily ever after" and "feel good" books are usually commercial fiction.

chinua achebe is another example of a literary author. "Things Fall Apart" had a really confused/absent ending. but it made me think.

it's literary books that are usually awarded book prizes.
_____

In general, fiction is divided into literary fiction and commercial fiction (also called mainstream fiction). There aren't any hard and fast definitions for one or the other, but there are some basic differences, and those differences affect how the book is read, packaged and marketed.

Literary fiction is usually more concerned with style than commercial fiction. Literary fiction also usually stresses characterization more deeply and is paced more slowly than commercial fiction. Literary fiction usually centers around a timeless, complex theme and rarely has a "happy ending." Good examples of literary fiction are books by Toni Morrison and John Updike.

Commercial fiction, on the other hand, is faster paced, with a "stronger" plot line (more events, higher stakes, more dangerous situations). Characterization is generally not as central to the story. The theme is also very obvious and the language in not as complex.

The biggest difference between literary and commercial fiction is that editors expect to make a substantial profit from selling a commercial book (not always true of literary fiction). Likewise, audiences for commercial fiction are larger than those for literary fiction. Tom Clancy, John Grisham and Stephen King are all prime examples of commercial fiction authors.

One of the easiest ways to determine whether your work is literary or commercial is to ask yourself, "Will my book be assigned reading in college English classes, or will it be sold in grocery stores?"

@ wesleyanA,
I beg to differ. The colour purple was a brillant work of art, it was a ''happily ever after'' story. I have read ''unserious'' ficion by John Grisham, it ended tragically.
Ms Adichie strikes me as someone with a sad face. I don't really care, I was just saying.

oh ok. it' not just endings that characterize fiction.
but i think The Bluest Eyes was what that writer was probably referring to when he mentioned Toni Morrison. that' one of the saddest book i've ever read in my life. and this is also the opinion of many people i know who have read the book.
color purple did have a happy ending but there are very few literary fiction with happy endings to be honest.

lol about adichie and sad face. hmm i've only seen her pics.
yeah who cares, i still love her.

I want to say that she has really influenced me. Even without her winning the Orange fiction award, I was moved by her first novel. She really made a debut. Looking into her life, I found out that she made first class and is productive. I made first class but I have not written any book. So I decided to go into writing. I am about to finish up my first novel thanks to her inspiration.

Ngozi keep the light on because we the new generation of writers are being influenced.

spikedcylinder, are you a lesbian?  If you're not a lesbian, then your opinion about her beauty does not count.
