I got a letter today from someone trying to tell me who Yorubas are and what Ifa is. What I can deduce from the content below is simple another motive to link the Yorubas to Isreal, and honestly I don't know why some people love doing that.

They rely on what is called folk etymology to proof their points. But the problem is how real is this? Cant I euphonise / link any word in Yoruba with any word from any tribe to claim that Yorubas are from there. I am sincerly at loss here. Historically and geographically, I don't see how Yorubas once lived in isreal and came down here. My premises may be stupid tho

- If Yorubas once lived in the middle east then came down to sub sahran africa, then we should have better ancient technologies like ships and towers that looked like those of the middle east. They should be more mechanised, at least they must have crossed the ocean in some ships. They must have built the tower of babel and other temples with the isrealites. Why is our dress sense different?

- If Yorubas once lived in the middle east, then our language should be very very identical with those of the middle east and not these little little folk etymologies people try to use as proofs.

- If Yorubas once lived in the middle east, then there should be documentation for our activities there. We should also have a written langauge, or a writting symbol, like the isrealites. At least at the time of Isiah, where the writer says Yorubas where worshipping baal and where Yerubaal, there were written languages in the middle east, why didnt the Yorubas bring that aong with them?

- If the writer knows what IFA really is, because it appears that the writer have no knowledge of what IFA is and compares it with what he calls Idols, then he would know that the Yorubas were a set of people living within an enclosed geographical area, developing their own philosophies and technologies. They developed geomantics, ethics, mathematics and others in spite of their enclosure.

That is the little I have to say, while I think more about this and read more. I hope others have more to say.

Let me start by saying, your article in Nairaland is quite elaborating and interesting. But you miss the real essence of the history of the Yoruba People.

Yoruba is a shortened form. Yorubaa is the complete righting according to the pronounication. We are suppose to destroy and not worshiped baal god of thunder or shango, but today, history has been corrupted and we are the fore runners of baal: Yoruba ronu!

Oduduwa is not the founder of Ifah. He was the first christian on earth! He was first to revolt against ifah and sorceries and followed Eledumare who required no symbol for HIS worship. Much has been done to misinterprete the original Oduduwa, the friend of Eledumare fathers of the black nation.

Obatala and some other gods are those angels that left their estate mentioned in Jude 1:6 and as Nephilims in Genesis. It was them that thought wickedness to mankind but Oduduwa vowed never to worsip other god except The God of Heaven. He and his wife father: Oduduwa brother was thrown into fire by Lamurudu the wicked mighty hunter but, Oduduwa survive and his brother died because his heart was not straight with Eledumare.

Oduduwa was tested to offer his only begotten son, Okanbi. This was a test by Eledumare to see if a man can sacrifice his son to HIM which made Eledumare to send HIS Son, Ela for redemption of mankind.

After Oduduwa passed the test. God told him the reason for everything and what would happen to his descendant till the time The Son of Eledumare will be sent for redemtion of his descendant. He came as Son of Moremi but they did not listen to Him and called Him "Omo gbenagbena".

There are two history of Moremi/Ela both political and cosmos. The political Moremi of Ife(linked with esinminrin around 17th century) was named after a legendary woman Moremi, who sacrificed her son for the sin of mankind then was named Iya Gbogbo- just like Mother of God Virgin Mary.

I believe that the writer must have studied comparative religion. He could have used his knowlege best by educating us the more. The piece is more confusing. There have been all these postulations here and there that YORUBA or IGBO migrated from middle east! How come. The yorubas will tell you that their cradle is Ile Ife - Good there is no doubt about this. Please, intelligent people in the house, what resemblance do Ile Ife People have with the Arabs or the Isrealis. These people in the middle east are light skin more or less white, coily long hair, long nose,etc. The chief of their food are bread and meat. TYheir occupation then was cattle rearing and farming. If actually they flee from middle east to a location in Nigeria, they could have best settle at the northern part of the Nigeria where the climate and vegetation resemble where they were alleged to have migrated from. Likewise, the theory surrounding IGBO as lost tribe of Isreal.

In Egyptian mythology, Aker (also spelt Akar) was one of the earliest gods worshipped, and was the deification of the horizon. There are strong indications that Aker was worshipped before other known Egyptian gods of the earth, such as Geb.[citation needed] Aker itself means (one who) curves because it was perceived that the horizon bends all around us. The Pyramid texts make an assertive statement that the Akeru (= 'those of the horizon', from the plural of aker) will not seize the pharaoh, stressing the power of the Egyptian pharaoh over the surrounding non-Egyptian peoples.
As the horizon, Aker was also seen as symbolic of the borders between each day, and so was originally depicted as a narrow strip of land (i.e. a horizon), with heads on either side, facing away from one another, a symbol of borders. These heads were usually those of lions. Over time, the heads became full figures of lions (still facing away from each other), one representing the concept of yesterday (Sef in Egyptian), and the other the concept of tomorrow (Duau in Egyptian).[2]
Consequently, Aker often became referred to as Ruti, the Egyptian word meaning two lions. Between them would often appear the hieroglyph for horizon, which was the sun's disc placed between two mountains. Sometimes the lions were depicted as being covered with leopard-like spots, leading some to think it a depiction of the extinct Barbary lion, which, unlike African species, had a spotted coat.
Since the horizon was where night became day, Aker was said to guard the entrance and exit to the underworld, opening them for the sun to pass through during the night. As the guard, it was said that the dead had to request Aker to open the underworld's gates, so that they might enter. Also, as all who had died had to pass Aker, it was said that Aker annulled the causes of death, such as extracting the poison from any snakes that had bitten the deceased, or from any scorpions that had stung them.
As the Egyptians believed that the gates of the morning and evening were guarded by Aker, they sometimes placed twin statues of lions at the doors of their palaces and tombs. This was to guard the households and tombs from evil spirits and other malevolent beings. This practice was adopted by the Greeks and Romans, and is still unknowingly followed by some today. Unlike most of the other Egyptian deities, the worship of Aker remained popular well into the Greco-Roman era. Aker had no temples of his own like the main gods in the Egyptian religion, since he was more connected to the primeval concepts of the very old earth powers.

Bes (Bisu, Aha) was an ancient Egyptian dwarf god. He was a complex being who was both a deity and a demonic fighter. He was a god of war, yet he was also a patron of childbirth and the home, and was associated with sexuality, humour, music and dancing. Although he began as a protector of the pharaoh, he became very popular with every day Egyptian people because he protected women and children above all others. He had no temples and there were no priests ordained in his name. However, he was one of the most popular gods of ancient Egypt and was often depicted on household items such as furniture, mirrors and cosmetics containers and applicators as well as magical wands and knives. Over time he came to be seen as the champion of everything good and the enemy of everything evil. It seems that he was originally known as "Aha" ("fighter" because he could strangle bears, lions and snakes with his bare hands. He is described as a demon, but he was not considered to be evil. On the contrary, he was a supporter of Ra who protected him from his enemies. As a result, he was a god of war who protected the pharaoh and the people of Egypt from evil forces. He was often depicted on knives in the hope that this would extend his protection to the bearer of the blade. His image also appears on numerous "magic wands" and on an incredible number of amulets.

He was given a new wife, known as Beset, who was a female version of himself ."Incubation" or Bes chambers were constructed with images of Bes and a naked goddess (most likely Beset) painted on the walls. It is thought that these chambers were meant to promote healing, remedy certain fertility problems or promote erotic dreams. The Romans also loved Bes and depicted him dressed as a legionnaire.

Bes also became popular with the Phoenicians and in Cyprus. Some scholars have suggested that the Ptolemaic version of Bes was in fact a composite god made up of ten fairly obscure gods; Aha, Amam, Bes, Hayet, Ihty, Mafdjet, Menew, Segeb, Sopdu and Tetenu. However, this theory is not widely supported and no evidence has been recovered to date which would clarify the situation.

******Bes was sometimes depicted with feline or leonine features and often sports a long tail prompting the speculation that in earlier times, he was not in fact a dwarf but a lion or cat rearing up on his hind legs. If he did start out as a feline goddess this would give him a further link to Hathor who was herself very closely associated with Bast (a cat goddess) and Sekhmet (a lion goddess) and the "Eye of Ra" (the fearsome protector of Ra).

********Furthermore, his name may be derived from the Nubian word for cat ("besa" and is written using the determinative for a mammal rather than the determinative of a god or a man (the cow skin). It is equally likely that he was always seen as a dwarf with the strength and power of a cat.

So we see tha are dwarfly type of people and that we have mixed with the isralites because of oure survival in ancient Egyp (Mizrayim kemet) WAS IMPORTANT.

How come we do not have a scintilla of Arabic or Hebrew in our spoken words? It true that the Fulanis captured and occupied the ruling house of Yorubas in Ilorin, that is why on the street of Ilorin you have people speaking Yoruba language and displaying Yoruba culture, but the ruling house have Fulani culture and besides some mixture of Yoruba and Fulani culture is always found on the street! Can the same thing be said of Yoruba and Arabi/Hebraic culture on the street of Yorubaland?
