Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Cyber Security Or A Degree Top Up by nowpresence(f): 7:43am On Aug 26, 2021
mofedamijo:
I have been recruiting for several organisations, especially American companies. But I will tell you for free, all mu clients are demanding at least a bachelors degree to be able to work in the United States.

Even if you have 8years experience in any of the I.T sectors, you're automatically screened out if you don't have a degree.

I am presently recruiting for Backend Developer, U.S based only, and a bachelors degree is a most.

You can study for cyber security, while also doing a part-time degree. But trust me, nobody wants to hire someone without B.sc anymore, except handy man jobs.

Don't let anyone deceive you, 97% of American companies now require a bachelors degree for I.T jobs, I am not talking of freelance jobs, I mean permanent staff positions.

Mind you, Cyber security requires certifications, this certifications are quite expensive.

I am a recruiter, and I am speaking from experience.

P.S, I am not based in Nigeria.
Shallom

I am currently looking for new Cybersecurity job. I have security certification. If you hear of any opening do let me know please

I beg to disagree with your sentence please. She is first of all, an Edo or an Urhobo (Urhobo also bears Ese, although the name is native to the Edo’s), before a Nigerian.

Your tribe is primary, Nigeria is secondary and when we speak, we most often than not, speak from our tribal worldview, before we speak as Nigerians. This is not being tribalistic or patriotism, it is reality and that is how we are naturally wired as humans. What we should preach, is tribal tolerance and understanding, so we can relate with the different tribe without prejudices and unnecessary, negative stereotypes. Any other thing outside this is living in denial, and we will always have issues with one another
She is Urhobo

Ese is also native to the Urhobos. Obviously you don’t even know what Edo means. Urhobo have two versions of the name. Eseoghene and eserovwe.

You need a mentor. That's the problem some people trying to break into the freelance space don't know.

I once charged a guy a meager 20k to teach him Fiverr and he was like, that's much.

I laughed him because I know his first job on that platform might be 50k.

I resigned from my job to work as a full time freelancer. Been making nothing less than 500k/mo since last year and my life has changed. I'm into video editing/motion graphics/animations.

You need to up your game and make yourself competitive. Ditch saturated fields and ensure you send proposals till you get a job. As a newbie, it's hard to break in but once you do and can satisfy your clients, you won't have to be sending so many proposals again.

Also, ensure you have stable electricity ( solar inverter strongly recommended), fast internet and a good laptop. If not, you'll be missing deadlines due to NEPA wahala.

Upskill!
There are thousands who can write, do graphics design etc...

I personally also prefer Upwork to Fiverr. On Upwork you get gigs from big companies who pay well compared to individuals that pay peanuts on Fiverr. Stopped using Fiverr since last year.
Which softwares do you use

A lot of people are missing the point here. If you have no background in Computer or Networking, I would advise you start from( basics so you can have a solid foundation) CompTIA IT Fundamentals, A+, N+, S+ and progress to CCNA.
Are you doing CCNA because they promise Job Opportunity? If that is the case here, the answer is NO. You have to find a job yourself. Promising you Job placement after Certification is a lie.
You can skip the above and start from any other field of IT if you have basic knowledge and understanding about Computing. IT is broad, you need to know exactly which aspect what you want to do. If you have the time and money to play with start from scratch, no knowledge is lost.
Presently, Cybersecurity, Cloud computing, AWS, Azure Fundamentals and Infrastructure are hot Cake right now but you have to start from somewhere. Rome wasn't built in a day
Are there really Cybersecurity jobs or it’s just a hoax
