The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, has said that state governors should not be blamed for the insecurity within their states, as, according to him, they are not the ones controlling the security agencies in their respective states.https://www.independent.ng/makinde-other-govs-cant-be-blamed-for-insecurity-in-their-states-alaafin/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

Why are the governors taking security votes and what are they using it for? Why are governors even called the chief security officer of a state if they can’t set up security networks or support vigilante groups to secure their states when FG fail. 8 Likes |

Salewa97:You mean they should use it to recruit their own police and soldiers when the Constitution makes them handicap ? To me security votes is another form of corruption in the system bcs, after the whole thing they will still fall back to the FG to resolve any security issue. Until we decentralize power in Nigeria, we're still deceiving ourselves. 7 Likes 1 Share |

I slightly disagree with my Lord, the Iku Baba Yeye here. These Governors being CSO of their respective state are always quick to collect the security votes without batting an eyelid hence should be answerable for any security breach under their domain. Same governors are always conspiring with their state CPs and other security agencies especially during the state LGA and guber elections which they often rig to the favour of the incumbent party cum government.Hence the need to decentralize security as obtained in the US. As for Governor Makinde, he is just playing politics with security though so much expectation was placed on him given his youthfulness. He should just reverse his fading goodwill and salvage himself.Peace! 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Racoon:Bleaching Oba, most probably vexed the way President Buhari has shunned him, & giving much more relevance to the Oni of Ife? Maybe Security votes money to him is to throw Owambes monthly, or beauty pageants to look for a new yellow wife? 1 Like 2 Shares |

Samunique:Does security mean police & soldiers, when they are given security votes money, why don’t they reject it, if what you are saying makes any sense? Are the so called supposed Bandits army or police? are they trained in paramilitary warfare? The Governor’s are all useless business men opportunist that have no business with governance. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Kabiyesi, with towotowo, I beg to disagree sir. Security is everyone's business especially for Governors who collect security votes. If they now don't have security, then security votes should be scrapped. Governors can do much more to help security. HE Fashola did a lot and I remember Asiwaju too. Even HE Obi of Anambra did a lot to combat security. None of these great leaders folded their arms away and passed the buck. The governors are trying but they can still do more. Security and welfare of the people is the primary duty of government. I don't agree that the Governors can't make significant impact. 3 Likes 1 Share |

slivertongue:He should come & handle security in Ibadan for you from Abuja, when you have your elected local players in position, with all due respect, do you actually know what democracy means? From the understanding of its meaning, it is not about a single individual, Nigeria has exited from authoritarian Military rule since 1999. 5 Likes |

What else can he say? Who pays his salary? Isn't that why traditional rulers can't talk anymore? Dont governors now control them? Who doesn't know he will be removed if he goes against the government? We have seen an Emir removed by a governor in Kano, so all of the traditional rulers can only sing praises to sitting governors and politicians or lose their "thrones". Power pass power. The superstitions dont work anymore, its all reality now. If you can't blame the governors that is supposed to be the chief security officer of his state for insecurity in his state, then who should be blamed? The traditional rulers that everyone is now confused about their usefulness? The hardworking members of the society that are now victims? 1 Like |

But they CONTROL the needless Security Vote! If you're not in control of security in your state, what then does a Governor wants to do with Security Vote. Tells you that Abuja isn't the sole centre of corruption in Nigeria. |

Either Nigerians are so stupid or they are not truthful. See them all shouting security votes. So if armed bandits attack your town, the governor will summon the security votes to your defence or hire foreign machineries to repel the bandit? This country was fashioned for centralised control to satisfy some people's selfish desires and until we dismantle this and decentralise power, security, resource control etc, We will continue going round in circles. |

Doraty1: This Alafin doesn’t mince words each time he speaks. Security of lives and property of 200 million Nigerians is at the hands of one man - the president. Ridiculous. Nigeria’s governance system is most retrogressive, all because Arewa north wants to dominate and control everything in Nigeria after Arewa soldiers restructured Nigeria politically, proliferated too many states and political constituencies in the northern region which Arewa exploits for control of Nigeria. |

toluxe0075: Does your state governor who is dubiously named the chief security officer of his state command the security forces in his state? A chief security officer must have security forces he commands. Nigeria Police and military are the instruments of coercion (force) in Nigeria. Both are commanded by the president of Nigeria. 1 Like |
