There is zero point in throwing money at a corrupt system. Where do you think all the aid money goes already? Think of all the charities and fundraisers.... And yet Nigerians still has largest poorest citizens in the world ... could it be that the money isn't making it to the people and their cause? Let Nigeria start from true federalism it will save her unity and security on the long run |

helinues: What does the federal government taking the remaining 87% of the oil money have to show for it other than stories of it being looted by ministers and other federal appointment holders to be stashed away in foreign countries? How morally right is it to steal someone's money and when he complains you ask him how much he has been able to judiciously use the little you give back to him as a token? 3 Likes |

Deadlytruth: So because FG are squandering their resources, state should follow suit? Why should some state governors who have been lamenting of earning low be wasting billion of naira state resources to build churches and mosques? Are churches and mosques an empowerment centre? Are churches and mosques tourist centre? Are churches and mosques paying taxes? Are churches and mosques remitting monthly money to any state that build religious center? Nigeria is recording more churches and mosques yet the rate of crime is increasing daily.. Between religious centre and rehab/correction centre which one is more important? 1 Like |

helinues: Your arguments here is so irritating that it lacks any atom of common sense. Do you need to be schooled to know that this federal arrangement is bound to fail. What motivation do state government get when he cant generate electricity for his people but has to channel it to national grid. Which state would be motivated to exploit his mineral resources when it purely on exclusive list. Look every item that could make a state develop is bungled in exclusive list of that useless 1999 constitution. Nigeria constitution is what makes state government lazy and bereft of ideas. |

helinues: Does the region control their VAT? Does the region control their import and export controls? Do you recall the closing of the borders last years, what region suffered from the lack of raw material from industrial development? Who controls.... The Niger Delta Development Commission and The Nigeria Delta ministry that dominates economic development in the Niger -Delta. Who controls the security architectures that allows banditry, Fulani's militant herdsmen to now hinder farming and economic transaction across the country. |

helinues: That's just the narration of a typical Aboki when you confront him with restructuring. Look, 1999 constitution is handed to us by some few military junta and does not in any way have input of generality of Nigeria, so it should be totally rejected and a new constitution is written. Asking Nass to amend a faulty constitution is like trying to patch a faulty building. Nass members are product of bad 1999 constitution we are talking about and have no authority to give us new constitution. |

helinues:let me ask you a question. If your fathers pays you #4m monthly, will be bother looking for another source of income? That is the case of Nigeria governors. They know that every month, federal government will ditch out real money to them. That's why most felt relaxed or doesn't think means of increasing their state revenue without multiple taxing. Restructuring is the key |

helinues: That is what restructuring is all about. It is a top to bottom thing. LG autonomy, state legislative and judiciary autonomy, resource control with LG getting 13%, FG getting 10% while the state keeps the rest. |

Every single individual has spoken right. Restructuring is good and it will benefit some certain regions; and oh yes! Some regions would be badly affected too. But then, the misrepresentation that a certain economy would crumble is a evil wish that would never come to pass, by God's grace. Of course, there may be a temporal slight decline due to slight changes in population but as a popular commercial entity with some considerable oil and gas in the region, the state should quickly rebound right back into reckoning especially being an important passage to the West African trade connections and stops. We just need to be very robust in our commercial/market structures, creation of more manufacturing units/FTZ, exportation and importation policies, strict border controls, partnerships and friendliness to the nations that matter, creating a more business-friendly environment and promoting creativity through socioeconomic indulgence. Eko lo lafe, Eko lo lako. We should build our creativity around our heritage, persons, sophistication and orientation and we should have a bigger entertainment industry than we have now. Chill, guys. Lagos ain't crumbling whatever happens to Nigeria. Rather it would continue to progress. |

helinues:If we don't restructure today we will suffer tomorrow when oil money stops flowing. Today oil money can no longer fund our recurrent and capital expenditure... so imagine how it will be like when finally there isn't any money...how will those supposed viable state/ non viable states survive then? If we restructure today, merge Anambra with Ebonyi state , Imo with Enugu and abia... one way or the other..they will find a way to survive...yes, it might be hard at first but subsequently things will start getting into place... Same thing with Akwa ibom and cross river and other states of the fdrtion. What I'm trying to say is that let us restructure now and suffer it now...so that tomorrow we will enjoy now oil isnt already useless. Imagine when it becomes absolutely useless...even the states with oil will suffer then |

helinues:So because the state governors are squandering their revenues the federal government should withhold their it for the federal ministers to loot and keep away in foreign accounts which even they themselves may never be able to recover? When we were practising regional system did any regional government squander their resources? What many and in fact most Nigerians don't understand is that it is true federalism and resource control that will actually instill accountability in both the federal and state governments. In case you are wondering how, here it is: Unlike the present situation whereby the indigenes of a given state don't bother how governors spend the revenues accruing to their state either because they aren't involved in generating it or that they are consoled by the awareness that federal allocation will always come; under true federalism there will be no federal allocation but even state allocation to the federal government in the form of taxes on state revenue......meaning that the residents of each and every state will have to labour hard to generate revenue for the state and pay taxes from their sweat hence they will not gloss over waste of such hard earned revenue by their governors on things like religious pilgrimage sponsorship, donations to electioneering campaign fundraisers of other states of the same party, etc. That way, rather than vote based on zoning or ethnicity and risk having as governor a person who will drive the state to insolvency, people will start voting for governorship candidates based on records of their good financial administration and minimization of waste in handling funds. Likewise, LGA chairmen will be constantly kept under the torchlight of the residents from whose local taxes LGA revenues will wholly be generated. With just 25% going to the FG, once the salaries of the military and staff of other federal agencies are paid, there will be little or nothing left to pay jumbo allowances to federal legislators let alone for the FG to flirt with the idea of paying amnesty to militants, Boko Haram, Bandits and give pipelines protection contracts to people like Asari Dokubo, Gani Adams, Tompolo or sustain fraudulent subsidies on imported petroleum products. In an atmosphere of absence of jumbo allowances for senators and representatives courtesy of the meger 25% going to the center, politics will lose its attraction to political investors and only accomplished veterans of different disciplines who genuinely want to serve and bring their professional experiences to bear on legislative business will seek public office while political investors will seek investments in other endeavours that will generate employments and the country will be better for it on the long run 1 Like 1 Share |

helinues: An MRO can only be in an airport. Investing in a full fledged MRO at Enugu airport would have been a big mistake for airpeace. Nigerian government are known to not keep/honour agreements. Airpeace is better off investing such in a state government owned airport (Asaba or newly developed Anambra airport). The bureaucracy involved in dealing with FG can run an investor out of business. |
