How did AS genotype saved us?

When malaria hit us initially in those days, people with the AA genotype had more severe morbidity and a higher mortality. Basically, they died the most.

But because of the resilient nature of the AS genotype to malaria, people with AS survived more. As procreation continued, more AS children were born thereby saving us from being wiped by malaria.

If not for this, we would have suffered severely from malaria.

Guess they are a family of SS.

This genotype stuff made me believe in the survival of the fittest.

Soon those with AS and SS will be without partners for procreation because AA wants to marry only AA.

But it is interesting to note that genotype isn't a topic of discussion when dating or marrying in the developed world.

Survival of the fittest? Have you not observed it in this pandemic? Those with better health survive. They were the fittest. Also those who could afford the bills (not necessarily healthy but could afford the bills to get the health care they needed) survive. They were/are the fittest.

Survival of the fittest is how the natural order work. If you are fit enough in any environment you see yourself, you will thrive.

Genotype or no genotype, everybody will be gone soon. Tell me one AA that has never tasted death? Before you came to this Earth God has ordained you before when you will be born and when you will die. Genotype doesn't determine that.

You can change your genotype through stem cell transplants.
Genotype Compatibility
Types of Genotype. The genotypes in humans are AA, AS, AC, SS. They refer to the hemoglobin gene constituents on the red blood cells. ...
Compatible genotypes for marriage are: AA marries an AA. ...
Solution. The only thing that can change the genotype is the bone marrow transplant (BMT).

no amount of love is worth the pain that comes after. I'm also AS and it made me marry late because most of the girls I met were also AS. It was hard letting go but it was worth it. One SS will detail the love and happiness in the marriage. Good luck to you bro

That's because most people in the developed world do not carry the genes for the disease. It's a black man's disease mostly.

I don't understand what you meant. How can AA have high mortality rate when they are the ones with the stronger genes?

Btw, during those days, there was nothing like genotype, nobody tested for it, people attributed those type of death to witch craft

Love is the only Force that's capable of destroying and building the universe. Love conquer all things. Love is only Force that can make human to throw away the God given gift of reasoning and run after the heart. Love is magical because it's make you believe in Utopia of absolutely postivism of hope. In the end when everything clear we began to wonder if we are truly stupid to follow what's unsubstantial to our interest. It take loves in the end when things marred not regret. Still in the end Love is more powerful than anything you can ever imagined.

Genotype has always been there right from the beginning of time. What wasn't there was the knowledge of it, especially in Africa and other developing societies.

As regards malaria, it is actually the AS genotype that is "stronger."

People with the AA genotype are more susceptible to coming down with malaria.

If you study the history of malaria and if you follow the patterns of spread as well as its severity and deaths, you would find that surviving malaria then correlated with the AS genotype.

I understand I'm saying so much with no source and this isn't good enough. Because of this, I shall revisit this post with a source once I'm free.

Thanks.

Genotype discussions do happen in the developed world to some extent.

Many Jewish people are always keeping in mind that they may have a baby with Tay Sachs disease. Also among the Jews, they gave up consanguineous marriages because of high incidence of certain genetic diseases

Also white people watch out for cystic fibrosis, the sickle cell of their race, only it affects the lungs.

Plus many adopted children try to find their birth parents partly because they want to know family health history including genetic diseases and compare notes with future spouse and their doctors
