This should act as a lesson, to all new migrants........ Fraud rate is very high in the UK, people would take advantage of the weak and uninformed........

If that deal is too good to be true, it probably got fraud written all over it ...........

You have platforms to buy from, that offers you financial protection (eBay - PayPal)........

Fraudsters would never use a platform, that offers financial protection.......

grin

Fraudsters are many on eBay too

They sell phones with bad screens etc and eBay will award in their favor

They can ship empty boxes to another address and claim you have collected it

If you do lots of phone shipping on eBay, you'll know this

Nothing beats buying directly from a store and testing it .. Look, check and pay

By the time she was making the transfer, a series of messages, would have been presented to her, warning her of the transaction.........She can report it to the bank, but they cannot promise a clawback ......... Her best bet would be, report to the bank and the police.... It might eventually end up in a small claims court (depending on how desperately she wants her £450 back)........
She paid school fees, to the school of fraud ..... Now graduated, she would NEVER repeat this class ........

Since we are discussing scams, I’ll like to chip this in…
Let’s be careful when purchasing air tickets as well because there are some websites that are now designed mainly for fraudulent activities. My mum intends travelling to naija later this year and I started searching for an affordable ticket online, I stumbled upon cheapflights.co.uk and found a deal on Lufthansa for £400 plus. I was redirected to this website https://www.helloflights.co.uk/ where I was asked to fill in the passenger’s information, I did that promptly and few hours later I was contacted by one of the representatives of the company.

I provided all the required information and even sent my mum’s passport data page for verification of the names. After all said and done, I was sent an email requesting a deposit of about £100 which I did promptly then I replied the email stating that I’ve made the payment and asked for the ticket to be issued, the guy told me the ticket will be issued when full payment is made and I told him I was ready to pay in full as I didn’t initially request for part payment plan. He then told me that I had until June to make the payment and the ticket price is locked and guaranteed so I should not worry. I felt something off but I didn’t go with my gut feeling that day so I agreed but I asked him to send me the airline reference so I can double check on Lufthansa website myself. This took another 24 hours before I could get it and I checked, the reservation was there but there was no ticket number so I knew it was just a booking and not a confirmed ticket.

I called the agent back severally and no one picked. I then decided to send an email requesting ticket issuance. There was no response to that email. I called all through the next day and it was same. The next day, I decided to check their reviews again, I had previously done this but I just checked the first page of the reviews on trustpilot but this time, I filtered the reviews to show me the one star reviews and my findings shocked me to the bone marrow. Lots of people were in the same situation as I was…

To cut the story short, I called them back with another number and this time, they picked. I calmly told them my findings and said I wanted a refund. This is how the scam works, when they have you pay the deposit, they send an email containing the flight reservation and somewhere in that email written in the tiniest of fonts is a caveat stating that your quoted fare is only valid for about 3 days from the date you paid the deposit but this will be contrary to what you will be told over the phone. They’ll infact ensure that you’re convinced to pay closer to your travel date. Then when that time comes, you’ll be told that that fare is not valid again and you’ll then be made to pay through your nose even higher than what the airline is selling directly at that moment.

Anyway, I raved, ranted, cursed over the phone and the guy asked me to send an email requesting a refund. I told him I was recording all of our conversations and I actually was from that point onwards. Well it will suffice to say that that email was not responded to and I haven’t had the energy to show them craze since then. I had my mum open her Monzo app and report the transaction as fraudulent with evidence showing I requested ticket issuance even before the allotted date in their email. Monzo stated that they had contacted them and it will take up until 22 July before they hear back from them merchant. Anyway we’ve counted our loss and moved on.

I eventually purchased directly from British airways website to avoid any more stories that touch because I was really shaken by that experience despite my supposed “wokeness level”. They are also a registered company because I checked on gov.Uk so the level at which they operate is different from the norm. So let’s be careful out there and be very mindful cos the level of scam is just on another level entirely.

I still do not understand why people buy ticket from 3rd party website or agents rather than directly from the airlines

This outsourcing of course work and project is very common , i know at least two Nigerians who outsourced their final projects...one is a professor now. I know Indian students also do this a lot.

A Nigerian student i know years ago was begging someone to accept £700 to help her write her finally project as she has 3wks to submission

Was trying to see if I could get something cheaper as prices were high on the airlines websites. Sometimes, agents/third party websites (genuine ones) have access to deals from these airlines that they will not directly offer to individuals…

First, revert to the primary conversation to understand the context of my comment.

Secondly, read through the line and realise that I simply use outsourcing as a example.

If monitoring and evaluation isn't necessary, even the school/lecturer wouldn't have detected the plagiarism.

Yes, plagiarism is wrong but to play the devil's advocate: do you think everyone who graduated from school did their assignments and projects themselves - both in the developed and developing countries?

We can establish the morality or otherwise of outsoucing assignment, but has and would it change anything?

I’m in Uni studying for my Masters and I’ve been doing my assignments by myself and scoring high marks. Even some of my Nigerian classmates who have families have been doing their assignments all on their own and doing great. Outsourcing is cheating! Let’s tell it like it is please and stop down playing it or trying to justify it because “people are doing it”. It changes things when people realise that outsourcing is never good in the long run. Imagine studying data analytics and looking for a job in that field but you outsource your assignments to a third party. You are indirectly playing yourself. Because those assignments are were you actually learn.

This your story reminds me of a friend's laptop purchase ..........

Back in days, laptops was very very expensive..... A friend negotiated with a buyer, they meet at surrey quays.......

He tested the laptop, was happy with his purchase. He paid, they shook and parted...........

Little did he know the laptop got swapped at some point, to bottles of water (real life story)........ grin

That’s what Irish pikey do lol, they would show you the real thing. But they would swap it around whilst one of the distract you. One of my mate brought a flat TV like that.

sorry about your experience. maybe this problem is from Monzo. They should be able to help you quicker.
Mine was flight tickets as well. Was trying to purchase flight tickets, got taken to a 3rd party agent with good deals. Deals way lower than carrier sites. I filled in all details and put in my card details. Unknown to me, this people do something fishy immediately you put your details as this is usually the last step in online purchases. Unbeknownst to me additional 150 pounds from nowhere had been added to the ticket price. I didnt even see it intime and they make the website interface appear in such a way that the moment you are inputting your card details, it sort of covers the amount you are paying so you wont see the scam going on. I just went on to click pay now, that’s when I realized the ticket price had fraudulently been increased by £150.

Too late to stop transaction. The payment had gone through and the money debited. I was vexed in my spirit. I began to think of what to do next. 1 hour later they sent me the complete tickets. I was just upset at the way they had fraudulently taken my money. Like tell me from the onset this is the price of a thing, not to advertise a lower price to lure me in and then last minute defraud me.

Immediately I searched for their contact number online… no headway.. you just keep calling a non existent number.. they also have no email info just so nobody will be able to reach them. As soon as I realised what was going on, I logged onto my Barclays bank app and filled the form to help with transaction. I disputed the extra 150 that was topped at the last minute and which I was not aware of and how the company deliberately had no means of reaching them. Sent them proofs of what’s on their site and what it miraculously changes to at payment time. 1 hour later, barclays retrieved this disputed £150 and returned it to me. They also followed up with the merchant’s bank when they started to spill rubbish. Tickets were still valid for time of travel and I used them without any hitch.

NIN or NI

Which documents did you post?

They still post sha. I know of someone who applied and got it in 3weeks.

How many times did you apply? 3 times?

Igbamatigbi:
Hello,

I applied for my NIN in November didn't get it after sending photocopies of the documents through post as requested, waited for 16 weeks it didn't come, so I applied again, nothing like post again.
I was even planning to send the documents though didn't see a mail like the first which requested for the documents.
Anyways, I reapplied again and got it under 5 working days
