President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to calls by Northern Elders Forum (NEF) to resign due to insecurity in Nigeria.

His spokesman, Garba Shehu, said the president does not wish to be drawn into the high-decibel show in the media.

“Publicity is the oxygen for politicians who have failed to connect with voters in a democracy”, a statement Wednesday night reads.

Shehu said the resignation call “is not a solution to the security problems facing the country”, noting that it built up to a worrisome level following decades of neglect.

“They told citizens to know what their government is doing to deal with this situation and for politicians to come to terms with the fact that it is beneficial to all.

“People don’t have to destroy what is there in a desperate quest to get power”, the presidency said.

In response to the attacks on Kaduna and Niger States axis, Shehu told the public that security agencies have realigned and reorganized ongoing operations.

He said the structures are being reinforced with land-based assets to increase the efficiency of the troops and intelligence is equally being reinforced.

The air defence system is being reinforced with newly-acquired jets and drones which assemblage and training for operators have been hastened to meet the current exigencies.

“The country is equally getting assurances of early delivery of equipment on order from manufacturers and the effort is ongoing to conclude other major procurements still in process.

“Only this morning, the government at a meeting of the cabinet approved the procurement of the largest ever single procurement of military vehicles.

“Similar major operations are going in the South-East and the South-South where the economic life wire of the nation and electricity transmission lines are currently being secured from saboteurs.”

The presidency accused “sponsored saboteurs” of aiming to show that the government cannot provide power by sabotaging equipment at switches and other vital points.

“They will not succeed. The public knows who is who, and who has done what in our country’s governance”, the statement added.

In my own opinion
This man should be allowed to complete his tenure
In less than a year he will be out
Why the rush ??
Next time we will learn that what we need is a man with vision and not just a president

The Northern elders have said their mind and it's left for PMB to act now or step aside for someone else to step in and clear the insurgency in the North.

It's not rocket science, the governors in those Northern states can clear bandits, terrorists etc. on their own with all the security votes they get if they really want to.. the FG that has Navy, Airforce, Army, Civil Defense, Police etc. can't tell us that nothing can be done to those terrorists killing people everyday across North and Middle Belt. They are not even Nigerians to start with so we need to know how they entered and what their mission was coming into the country. People are getting angry and it's only a matter of time before civil unrest will break out.

Allow state police.. they said No.

Allow us bear arms to defend ourselves and loved ones.. they still said No.

So what is the way forward na.. ewo lewo, which way??

Ijaw Republic our home.

ijaw Republic our home.Ijaws being the 4th largest tribe and having a population of over 10 percent of Nigeria deserves 2 more states and more LGAs for Bayelsa state.
Bayelsa state is bigger than 10 Nigerian states and have over 550 villages and settlements but are so marginalized in times of LGAs.
Forget that lie population figure in book that many falsify.
The truth remains.
All Nigeria's offshore oil go with ijaw Republic because we are the ones sharing borders with the whole ocean.

ijaw produces over 90 percent of all Nigeria's crude oil but were unjustly balkanized into Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom States when all ijaw areas are fully together and are not scattered by God.
The Lovers of ijaw Nation Organization is asking the Nigerian system to restore us to none balkanized by creating Toru-Ebe State (for Ijaws of Ondo, Edo, Delta), Oil-Rivers State (for Ijaws of Rivers and Akwa-Ibom States and increase Bayelsa LGAs to the proper number as it is in other States.
These states are economically viable.

Failure to do this, we are going to take full militant actions in every way so as to leave Nigeria and go for ijaw Republic.

There you go again, blaming everyone except themselves.

Only a lazy, incompetent, bad workman does that.

The resignation call by the NEF might be too late, but let it be on record that they spoke out.

So NEF can open their dirty mouths to ask Buhari to resign? If all the killings hapening have been happening down South, will they advise Buhari to resign? They think, it is a child's play before, now their eyes are getting cleared. The monster they preferred has turn to devour them. Even if it is only 5 people that remain in the north by 2023, Buhari must finish his tenure whether they like it or not.

Oga garuba shehu, don't mind the northern elders forum jare, they are only giving Oga bubu a suggestion not a command, so why the reply in the first place.
Oga bubu must complete his tenure, because resignation is too late for him.
infact, we nigerians will not even allow Oga bubu to resign, if he wants to do so.
just help us to tell Oga bubu to stop this daily killings of nigerians with impunity by these criminal elements, because the population of nigerians especially in the north may drastically reduce before he leaves office, if this trend continues.

Buhari directed Ministers in his cabinet from SW to go home to their Governors and treat the problem with #Endsars.

Why cannot he not dispatch Ministers to go home to their Governors in NW and treat bandit problem?
