Day 3

Phewww! What a day! smiley

Still out with my friends doing a final send forth, 2 locations down and one more to go. One friend - my manchi - came in from far away to say his final goodbye, I'll miss him.
At this point, it didn't feel like I was going anywhere. I had NOT mentally checked out as I had resigned technically a few days prior and was just getting my brain aligned with the travel plans.

MackyNaija:
Day 2

This is the eve before D-Day....

Flight will hold as scheduled, bags 70% packed but I am good to go....

Join me tomorrow as you and I will fly from Lagos to Houston. smiley Online check in isn't going thru, I will have to head to the airport as early as I can.
Having been denied a US visa previously, you won't blame me for not taking things seriously.

Until my legs touched yankee, I was tuned to keep seeing this as a mere possibility... cheesy
Might or might not happen.

3. Student Loan.
Been looking at students loans for a while...

Prod1gy too like sure things not knowing that nothing in this life is sure. They only give loans to students in 'top schools'.
Unluckily for me, 3 schools I was admitted to but failed to attend are on their positive list.

St1lt gives to international students without co-signers. I jokingly applied last week for $6,000. 2 days after the confirmatory call, I got an offer for $1,500 - I could only be given a 'personal loan' and not the student loan I wanted. I need to put 4 references incase they cannot reach me.

MPow3r gives to international students without co-signers. I also jokingly applied last weekend after the St1lt confirmatory call, I applied for $12,000 since that of St1lt was looking promising and they allowed application for a full term (2 semesters).
I was given a conditional offer for the full sum - $12,000. I need to submit items like transcript, tuition invoice, Nigerian permanent home address etc etc and we progress from there.

Yet to accept any. I'll talk more about the terms and duration when I am chanced.
on this mpower loan stuff, can I apply for the loan now I haven't been granted visa ? Although I have my admission letter already oh.

This is a personal decision, no one should make it for you.

Do your permutation and combination and ask yourself if it is a worthy investment.

Most especially, check if your school and course is covered by these lending agencies.

Another advice I can give is to take advantage of low tuition and available scholarships to reduce the cost needed to achieve your dream. Fees can be as high as $15,000 per semester, I paid about $3,500 for each of my first 2 semesters.
can u suggest any of these scholarships

Predstan:

School fee is 15k in a year but I found one scholarship which will offer instate tuition. Although I have applied for that but no offer yet. Living expenses is 16k in a year according to I-20

I got a loan of 16k for first year and 35k in reserve for second year with 10.65 APR... Course is Electrical Engineering at top 3 university in Florida. Na true say Nigerians day fear Loan oooo because ever since I got approved for that loan, I don carry calculator+Google even with Almighty Formula. I never borrow 20k naira for my life.

Although I have decided I will be attending already. The school is ranked 11th in the world for US patent so they have a strong alumni and job prospect...
Is the loan from mpower

5years ago I landed in the greatest country in the world and it has been a successful journey.

I felt I would make so much noise today but realizing the naira to dollar rate rose/fell from #625 less than a week ago to #700 today has left a bitter taste in my mouth...
Gives me the feeling of someone grieving a loss.

It was a great run while this thread lasted..
Thanks to all of my followers and wellwishers.

The thread served its purpose and I personally know a few people that it helped get to the US.

This is officially my last post and I'd say to those in the future reading this... If I could do it, you can do it too!

Once again, God Bless America!!! Peace Out! smiley

@Mackynaija, you have been a great inspiration to us all, please don't leave, sometimes come here to advice those of us that needs it, matter of fact it was on this forum that I saw in one of your page, where you and @kroger or so were given advice on Tech and IT, then I started networking certification and introduction to cybersecurity, I got two certification already from Cisco and a job on the island with this certifications that gave me edge and also still looking toward Cloud computing certification and the likes, plus I got a networking school offer from UK but I can't meet up with the fee, but as God liveth I will make it to the UK or US when it is right. So please once in a while come and give us some piece of advice. May God continually bless you and @kroger and the rest who has contributed positively on this forum, Thank you.

Congratulations Bro I am so proud of you. Cloud is big in the US i.e AWS, AZURE, Google cloud. I switched to cloud security during the pandemic lockdown and never looked back since, you can wholeheartedly go for cloud either administration, devops, security or networking..

Sometimes I still glance through the thread as I am pretty much busy these days.

My new baby.. Arrived America with just $250 and a dream, 7 years later bought two houses one for my family the second for business (Airbnb).

Currently own a nutrional business which I am still growing steadily and hopefully quit my 9 to 5 jobs and focus on the business by Gods grace.
In america you can achieve as long as you put your mind and go for it. work hard and smart.

I say make I post small doings to encourage ourselves.
