I do not want to reply to this before but I believe some people make their decision depending on what they read online. I will appreciate it if you can quote any company in Nigeria that pays the equivalent of 48 million naira for a Manager in Nigeria. The one I worked for before in Nigeria is one of the highest-paid institutions in Nigeria and I can say with my full chest that a Deputy director does not even earn 52 million or 48 million yearly talk less than 40 million.

Unless you want to run things with paper company or being corrupt that the only way you can make exorbitant money in Nigeria.

I wish more people will use their real names on this forum so we can get some semblance of truth. The anonymity is what gives people cover to post all sorts of annoying trash. Since everyone is nameless their credibility is good as any, right? That's why I've chosen to put my real name and location here. So if I'm lying there's a good chance I'll be called out publicly.

I know 3 people - two men and one lady - that work for US software companies in Nigeria. When I came across all the imaginary Big Boys of Nairaland disparaging diasporans on the strength of their REMOTE JOBS in Nigeria, I decided to make enquiries and of course I started with these acquintances. Funny thing is, they themselves didn't know anyone. These are people working for some of the biggest IT companies in the world, based in Nigeria. It took months but I finally got referred to two people doing remote computer work for USA companies in Nigeria. One earns ₦‎700K per month, the other earns.....get it.....₦‎80K per month.

The guy earning ₦‎80K is heading to the USA by the end of this year on an immigrant visa.

That's actually good money given that 30% of Nigerians can't get any job at all. I admire ANYONE that can earn a good, stable and sustainable income in Nigeria because it's very difficult to do. I've been there. What I detest is making the nonsensical leap that somehow living in the UK is hellish compared to Nigeria.

Itsrm:

Here you go
https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2022/07/17/highest-paid-ceos-in-nigeria-in-2021/amp/

Thank you. I never thought about this till someone brought it up on another topic where the usual crowd was claiming that Nigerians abroad are all poor and can't afford to pay their bills.

The CEO of Dangote Group earned ₦‎451 million in 2021 or so. I couldn't believe my eyes when I converted it to dollars o....that's half a billion naira and it's worth only $1.2 million using CBN rate and about $600K using black market rates. I had to do the calculation three times to be sure I wasn't missing something, and that's TOTAL COMPENSATION, not even salary. That's one of the highest paid corporate employees in Nigeria!!!! grin grin grin I know several Nigerians in my town who earn over $500K per year and dozens who make over $250K.

Well nowadays every Nigerian graduate claims they're working remotely for foreign companies and earning more than Dangote's CEO grin No wonder they love living in Nigeria so much. grin

And then of course most of Nigeria's quoted company CEOs are Europeans and Asians. Weird right? Yet we're told that Nigerians suffer rampant racial discrimination in the UK. Really? What I've seen at Nigerian airports, right at the port of entry, tells me that Nigeria is a foreigners paradise. It's telling that Dangote couldn't find a brilliant Nigerian business maven to hire to run his company. grin Apparently Dangote knows what I know about Nigerians so no surprise.

Buhari also knows what I know about living standards which is why he and his family have been living in UK and Spain for the past 40 years.

Nigerians!!! Common sense is indeed very REMOTE in that country! cheesy

Wow thanks. He don do something be that, maybe driving without insurance… Because police hardly stop people..

The police would stop a vehicle, if they spot an infringement, you're possibly doing something wrong, acting suspicious or they just feel like it .........

But before they stop you, they would have already ran a check on your vehicle....... This check would tell them...

- Details of registered keeper
- Insurance status
- MOT/RFL status
- Status of vehicle

If vehicle is registered/insured to a lady, currently driven by a male....... And the insurance does not show a male second driver........

You're guaranteed a 🔵 🚨 ...........🤣

You do not change from a Nigeria license to a UK license. The first thing you need to do is to apply for UK provisional driving license
2. Apply for the Uk theory test which you need to pass before you can be ready for the practical driving test
3. Apply for the practical driving test once you pass your theory test.

All these must be done within one year of your arrival in the UK

What do u mean all these must be done within one year? So if i dont learn how to drive within one year in uk i cant learn how to drive in uk again?

After or before driving school what next?

- Get a provisional licence
- Start preparing for your theory test
- After you pass the theory test
- Pay a driving instructor or buy a vehicle, then get a friend/enemy, with a full DL of over 3 years to instruct you (if using a friend/enemy). Once you perfect your driving skills, get a licenced instructor to top up (possibly 5 lessons).....
- If using your own vehicle, L plates MUST be clearly displayed on front & rear........

Once you get positive FB, about your ability to drive, coordination, adherance/understanding of the highway code.......

BOOK A TEST (hopefully you would pass at 1st attempt)........

NB: Your theory test, once passed..... Expires after 2 years......

Also ensure your vehicle is fully legal, before you hit the road.......

So i have to be renewing my license every two year through a test or just through paperworks. Asin after two years and the license has expired, will i just need to submit some documents to renew or i will go through driving tests again to renew?

Once you obtain a full DL, it's subject to renewal every 10 years ........

You don't do another test, you simply pay, tick boxes and submit your application (not unless your license is subject to a revoking order)...... Then you might be required to undergo a medical examination etc etc ....

I want to start a new career in IT, but I'm not sure which field to go into between data analysis and cyber security. Which one would you recommend for someone looking to change career and might also be easy to secure sponsorship.
Talking of changing career, what field are you coming from or what experience(s) do you have. One thing about Cybersec which is equally more applicable to data analytics is that you can make use of data analytics within other fields (including Cybersec). Some of the gurus in Cybersec make use of their previous background within Cybersec: take for instance AML or Privacy
PS: Cybersec is a wide field in itself. Data analytics is largely horizontal cutting across many domains, although (along with data science) it's having its own vertical.
semmyk:
... ...
- Cybersec, na e worse pass. I no say I wrote sometimes last year on this thread about it. CTI (cyber threats intelligence), analytics, blue team, red team, (at least lasgidi dey try), risk assessment, process and mgt side of cybersec (your ISO 2700x sec mgt and certifications), your governance and compliance. Oh, there's still Privacy (which fit randa on its own on one k leg) ...
All three are increasingly integrating with other areas: legal, big data analytics, AI...

Yes I have the time and yes, you're LYING to the max. You're NOT a remote worker and you've NEVER set foot in the UK, Canada or USA. So give it a rest. You're talking trash. Yes, my name is Ibezim Okehie, I live in Raleigh NC and I'm a pharmacist. I'm a normal, middle class American citizen, I have nothing to hide or be ashamed of. I've committed no crime and that's why I'm bold enough to tell it like it is. You on the other hand, you're evidently ashamed of something. With all the big gara-gara on this forum I would think you would at least tell us your name and bona fides. I double dare you to tell us so we can get a sense of what makes you so contemptuous of Nigerians living abroad. I'm really, really interested, I want to know so I can learn something. Show us what justifies your opinions.

I understand your desperate NEED to disparage Nigerians living abroad. Sowing uncertainty and doubt among diasporans makes those stuck in Nigeria feel better about their own bleak prospects in the general COMPETITION with their mates abroad. It's galling to know you're jobless or making ₦‎150K salary when your university classmate in US/UK sends triple that amount home every month. So your response is to make fun of them, make them feel uncertain and uncomfortable. To understand why this is a FUTILE tactic, you have to think back. In the 1970s & 80s lots of Nigerians abroad returned home for good and raised their families. A MAJORITY of them fell into poverty. Many of their children are now back in the Anglo-West.

After the return of democracy in 1999, there was another surge of returnees. These ones learned the lessons of the 1970's & 80's and didn't completely uproot themselves. I was among that cohort. By 2012 it became clear that Nigeria was still a disaster zone. Right now in 2023, for well known reasons, very few Nigerians residing abroad will take the chance of going back. So all the efforts to make us feel bad about our choices are FUTILE because we have 50 years of REAL RESULTS AND EXPERIENCE with which to make comparisons. Trying to drag down those ahead of you is not a good life strategy. It worked for a while, yes some of us fell for it but not anymore. Get it? You can't persuade anyone to indefinitely live on unrealistic HOPES of a nebulous Afro-revival.

Nigerians !!!! A truly special people!!!

I don't know when you were here, but if it was more than 10 years ago, you won't recognize the place. Indeed, that's the point, there's nothing so special about me or any diasporan that you have to take the time to insult and denigrate them online, TO THE EXTENT OF RESORTING TO BLATANTLY LYING ABOUT YOURSELF AND THEM. That's EXACTLY what I'm saying and I'm so happy you're finally getting it. Like the child of one high government official told me when we met in London, some people are just lucky in life and that's no sin.

I make no claim to high achievements. I already emphasized it before, I'm an ordinary middle class American citizen. My country has been good to me and I'm grateful to all those whose intellect and sacrifices have made it possible for me to be happy. That's all and it's good enough for me.

If you cared to read widely - most of you Nigerians don't read anything, reading culture is dead in Nigeria - you would know that very few people make any significant achievement that has an outsize societal effect. Less than 0.001% of humans have such effects. I know exactly where I stand in wealth and income rank & distribution in the world, in Nigeria and in the USA. The stats are publicly available and everyone should be familiar with them. Who am I to compare myself to my age mates in Nigeria like Labor Minister Keyamo or Agbaje of GTB? It's absolutely nonsensical, borderline CRAZY to even entertain such thinking. At the same time, I know for a FACT that I'm better of and living at a higher standard of living than over 99% of Nigerians. That's just fact, ALL of the above is TRUE and verifiable. Why does this bother you so?

So how many Baby Tems or Davidos are there in Nigeria? How many Elon Musks or Hakeem Olajuwons are there in the USA? Such high achievers, let's say millionaires, comprise exactly what percentage of the population in Nigeria or the USA or UK? Do you get where I'm going? The important thing is to be happy with who and where you are while striving for better now and for the future of your family. I can say for sure you're NOT happy. Evidence? You seem more invested in tearing down your compatriots abroad because you know you can NEVER catch up with them financially. That's the mark of a loser, it's an outcome of constant exposure to debilitating poverty and it's more of a outlook thing than financial. We know with Nigerians like you, the only thing that matters is dreams of MONEY, buckets of money stored away while children are dying of simple preventable diseases and less than 7% of households in Lagos have access to clean potable piped water.

For sure, there's nothing wrong with criticism when it's based on REASONABLE FACTS and it's the paucity of reasonable facts in your comments that have convinced me you've never been outside Nigeria. It just happens that I'm the ONLY diasporan here who has elected to take you on with my REAL NAME, why others are tolerating your crap I don't know.

You can put down diasporans all you like, the FACT remains - we are the lifeline of the Nigerian economy. It used to be crude oil and natural gas, but Nigerians have almost killed that goose. Nigerians abroad pump $10 to $25 billion per year into your economy and for the past 5 years those remittances have been higher than the revenues and/or budgets of the Federal Government of Nigeria. Most private residential buildings built in the last 20 years in Nigeria are built by Nigerians living abroad. That's the FACT in my native village of Nkwerre, Imo State and I'm sure it's the same in yours.

Please STOP denigrating Nigerians abroad with LIES. That's all, your lies are too stupid to tolerate. I've visited the UK many times and it's so much better than Nigeria. Nigerians in London, Manchester and Aberdeen live so much better than Lagos, Abuja or Calabar it's outlandish to even compare. You know that, stop trying to drag us down it won't work anymore. Too much EVIDENCE and EXPERIENCE is now available, over 50 years worth. You can't beat that.

Thanks!

OFF TOPIC, but the highlighted brings back some good memories from many years ago in a different life when I spent 6 weeks at the 82nd Airborne, Fort Bragg, NC. Raleigh was one of the places we visited on our days off camp then. Happy times spent at Hooters, Raleigh, NC. grin

Oga Claremont, how come na hooters you remember well. A friend of mine used to have a birthday anytime we visited hooters those days

This your attitude is what has destroyed Nigeria. Nobody cares to do or even just SAY anything about something that's blatantly wrong because they don't feel it affects them personally. Tell us, do YOU believe that Nigerians in the UK are all poor, with no savings and living lives of penury?

There's two things that encapsulate the Nigerian attitude to the collective, public society, both at home and abroad.

(1) As things go wrong, their mental and expressed response is always - "it's not my portion"

(2) When they get the chance participate in wrong doing, they always say "And what can you do about it"....the famous "Wetin you fit do?"

Good Luck to all of you.

Thank you for your response. I have 0 experience about data analysis and cyber security but I wish to pursue a career in IT and I want to start from scratch. I don't mind if it'll take me a year or two to learn and secure a job that'll come with tier2. I just need a guide to know which area I should focus my learning on before starting

Leave long story

Enter Udemy and start from Comptia A+, then network +... Then ccna.. That's the foundation..

By the time you learn those basics, you'll know where to head to next

If you cared to read widely - most of you Nigerians don't read anything, reading culture is dead in Nigeria - you would know that only very few people make any significant achievement that has an outsize societal effect. So how many Baby Tems or Davidos are there in Nigeria? How many Elon Musks or Hakeem Olajuwons are there in the USA? It is not easy to be a Nigerian living in Nigeria

Some in diaspora that I know have this monthly contribution they do in Nigeria to take care of needs here. Whenever it is the turn of someone close to me to collect his contribution,he drops my account to receive and gives me the list of those he wants to gift this money as his own way of supporting them

Is his money not contributing to the economy? And some will say it is not. This is someone that finds it difficult to take care of his wife and son when he was here. Now,he has been supporting people for over twenty years since he migrated.

He is just one of many yonder people that makes life meaningful
