Yes sir!... Businesses are closing down in the country, the environment is becoming harsh everyday for business to thrive!, Some companies run on desiel year in year out! Markets are not no no favourable! Nothing is functioning. So I don't blame them when they delay in payment especially small scale businesses. .... Nigeria is in a worse mess!

They delay salaries because they know that there won't be consequences.
That is the result of impunity

Cash flow issues and poor economy. Many companies borrow money from banks to pay their salaries as clients have not paid them. Many one man business will not borrow money to pay salaries they will only pay when they receive money. Some companies used to enjoy government patronage like during GEJ but under buhari they got no patronage. How dem wan pay salary I know an oil company who got contracts under GEJ but today they owe salaries and pay once in 3 months. The owner is a pdp man

They use it to tie workers down so that they won't japa especially all these mushroom companies.

They will delay payment till mid of the following month, if you are contemplating of quitting the job after collecting payment it will be a gain to them cos you have sacrificed ½ month.

They delay salary because everywhere is not easy.

High taxes choking businesses.
High cost of fuel or diesel running businesses.
that is not an excuse.it is just modern day slavery.

If you have a small business of your own you will understand.
The cost of doing business is on the high side and at the end of the month it will look as if the workers have not work to end the pay.
But at the end of the month, salary will need to be paid.

No one is forced to retain workers they cannot afford to pay. The tough situation of doing business isn't workers business. They have worked and should be paid.

Good evening nairaland,

I was just reminiscing about my job and the went through the thread that hit front page on May 1st, if people love their job....

So I've been on my job for 2years now, and my salary haven't entered into the new month before, even if pay day is on Sunday, I will get alert, the first place I enjoyed this constant salary, is when I was in FCMB, their pay day is 22nd of every month, once the 22nd enter weekend, it would be paid on Friday...

I need to know why employer delay staff salary, after so much of their time, they have invested on the job?

No common regulatory body to monitor this activities and so you have it this way.

What do you mean Nigeria company?
Re: Why Do Some Nigeria Company Delay Salaries? by bukatyne(f): 5:20pm On May 02, 2023

Quack company. No reasonable or reputable company delays salaries.

The ones that do so, it is like an employment bond to them. That way their staff can't resign unofficially at the end of the month. You have to wait until 8th or maybe 14th to get paid.

Government agencies use the money to do business. Years back they used to put it in fixed deposit and share the interest after three months. Put another three months again, rinse and repeat.

This attitude is very bad, one of the reason why Nigeria is not moving forward...

Honestly I was I awe when my boss sent a message to me on Sunday, I was in church and was asking if I won't pay my staff salary, you can see the joy in my boss mind of having to do her responsibilities...

Honestly, I had to quickly move out from the meeting I was doing, to upload the prepared payroll excel sheet on the banking platform...

2years plus now, my salary have never moved to the next month before...

God bless that woman for us all

1. Arrogance

Some Nigerian bosses like the feeling of demi gods, so, they delay your salary at will so you can feel the heat and respect them More, remember, lot of people are jobless

2. Poor staffing

Some companies use the delay salary tactics to teach their staffs lessons

3..Low Roi or income

4.. Bad economy

5. They used your salary to Carry 2 odds or olosho and the ticket cut

6. Wickedness

Trust me on this, an average Nigerian in any position of authority is wicked

7. Village people

They see say your face don show, so they don't want your shoe to shine

Employers owe salaries because employees give them that power. I don't know where else in the world employees can be owed salaries.... and keep reporting to work without raising hell or shutting down the business.

It's just wickedness. Though for some, it may be due to lack of sufficient funds at that time but majority of them is out of wickedness.

Some use it to prevent staff from leaving the job without notice. So they delay it in case you have plans to resume in another company. If you go and resume elsewhere without proper resignation or notice, they'll seize the salary.

So annoying.

That's total wickedness, 2years plus now working where I'm, my salary has never entered into another month before...

Month ended on Sunday I got paid even before 6pm self....
