Family of 6 means a minimum of 3 bedroom flat. Rent in Abuja is crazy. I presume you want a good environment for your children, thus you may have to rent in the heart of Abuja. Rent alone would gulp in a million plus.

What survival strategy do you have on ground? Are you into business? Have you carried out a market survey to be sure your business would thrive in Abuja and have you possibly carved a niche for your business?

Good exposure boils down to the kind of school your children would enroll in and I can tell you that good schools don't come cheap.

Food and other basic survival amenities are quite expensive too (though you can get foodstuffs for pretty fair prices in satellite markets and even gsrki market so I guess that is sorted).

In all, just do a proper analysis before taking this leap. Possibly, the relocation should be done in a batch of two. You go first and clear clear way for your family. If you have a friend in Abuja that can accommodate you for starters, that would be good. That way, you would save up money more.

Hi guys. I really need some advice on this please.

We are a family of 6 and I want to relocate my family from Onitsha to Abuja in order to hopefully have a better life and expose to kids to more.

But I am bothered by the uncertainty of this move.

Is this this good idea?

If you live or have lived in Abuja can you please advice me on where we can live and afford an average life in Abuja in terms of accommodation, feeding and transport.

Also what kind of business can one start up in Abuja as a newcomer with about 10m to survive.
are you not suppose to go and soften ground before Relocating ur family? Nairalanders matter sef tire me.

Been here for some 22yrs. Getting a property here is expensive depending on your location, i'd suggest you move to one of the small localities close to town (mpape, nyanya, mararaba aren't good places to raise a fam tho) kubwa, dutse, bwari, apo and karu are nice and affordable.. Plus affordable schools too, with your 10metre try getting a land around ushafa area from the locals(400 - 600grand).. In no time, you'll be a landlord.. Run away from anything that will make you pay rent in this town..

Even neighboring states is not advisable for such movement with ur family.... Calm dwn n cm alone o!

You are a madman. Your brother is squatting with someone and you did not know. You must not make life hard for your brother. Abuja is hausaland. Try to search Google very well before you leave your ancestral land for another mans land. God bless you but try to be careful

naijapikin2:
I live in Abuja. It's ok here, you may struggle at first just like many of us did, but when the land opens up you will enjoy it. The indigenes are very hospitable. And business here is ok too. You will do well to locate a place where there is constant power supply like apo, some parts of Mpape, arab road in kubwa, and other areas. The best advice I can give you however is...

Hold enough money before coming: at least the amount that will see you through till you stabilize. Money is not picked on the streets of ABUJA o.

Here is my ABUJA story in summary. After NYSC my brother kept pressing me to come, I didn't know he was a squarter
With someone till I landed.today am very ok.
Ciao

Don't mind the guy. Abuja is peaceful, stress free. U don't jump after coaster buses or taxi all in the name of going to work like they do in Lagos... Lots of opportunities if u mingle with well nd u live by truth where it is needed...

Abuja is a family friendly state. It's decent, quiet and healthy food is very cheap.

Try not to mix with people that will make you feel pressured to live above your means.

Don't live inexpensive area cos school too is very expensive in such areas. Except you can find a Catholic school or Winners chapel school.

If you are planning to own a business, stay around places that business thrive. Example kubwa or make inquiries and get a shop in wuse, jabi, etc

Years ago, my uncle and his family moved from onitsha to Abuja. Today they are in the US.

You can do all your planning between now and September when new session will start in school.

Above all, pray to God and know what he thinks about this idea of yours. That's what's most important.

Let your family stay in Onitsha and come to Abuja and hustle. You can keep managing and your family is well okay in Onitsha that the sacrifice as a man. When you are stable and have gotten your ground then you move them. Schools are expensive and accommodation. You need to first focus on your hustle even if na garri you chop sleep and your family can enjoy Turkey. When you stable everything go balance

I am still trying to understand why anyone would move from any state with a family of 6 when nobody promised u a good job here in abuja? What brought this idea of relocation? You honestly need to review this decision of yours so u don't end up wasting your money here oh. I would have advice u start something in anambra & continue life there. Nothing dey abuja oh...
man wants to give his family Abuja Life. Especially his kids, he doesn't want them to be very comfortable with the ibo language. Maybe he can't control or stop his children From way of life of onitcha people.
@Op you can travel to Abuja to survey the Land first, before coming back to take your children there. Or if you think Abuja is experience you can take them to none ibo speaking city like Benin, Uyo and start a new life

Abuja is a place meant for descent people and seriously, agbero can't survive here.

I came to this town in 2007 as an IT student and returned after my NYSC in 2010. Man,this town is fantastic with good road and cheapest food ever. I am a family man of 3chidren.

With that budget,u will need to first of all rent a two bedroom or three depending on ur choice area then find other things u can do to survive.

One thing is very sure here,if u are a hardworking person,in 5years u will see how successful u will be.

U can hit me up in case of any assistance of any sort...if u are igbo, yoruba or hausa or any tribe..I can drive u round for free just to make u feel welcome.

Good luck to u.

This very true I came to abuja for nysc and completed it last year november. I was able to save and get a decent accomodation selfcon at lokogoma. Though I'm only on contract job( as civil engineering graduate jobs don't come by every time) at the moment I'm still grateful for the decision.

I'm looking for rental vehicle to start bolt business in order help me achieve stable income. Please you can quote me if you can help sir, I'm ready to provide necessary details ( I made a topic about it btw) thanks 🙏

If you want an affordable and secured environment with good facilities and good neighbors for you your kids , get a house in Navy Estate orozo. Get a nice car and start Uber for the main time while you learn more about Abuja and what business you can do
Op this is a very good advise, if you must travel

It is not advisable to move with your family, immediately. You alone have to go first, to survey what is on ground in terms of business opportunities, accommodation etc with less pressure. If you are okay with your findings then you can rent an accommodation and go back to the East to get your family.
Best advice for op

Abeg 10million is small in Nigeria now o. Don't think it is big. By the time you rent a good 3bedroom in Abuja with 6kids and paying above 1million which includes agent and commission fee, plus you have not even started feeding the kids yet. Hmmmm....that 10million you think is big go remain 4million e go shock you grin

My advise is that you calm down and seek for God's direction in prayer and fasting. God no dey Bleep up for that side. Except you don't pray.

Since you have such reasonable amount of money with you, then, you can easily survive.

Come with your family as planned.

But start from a low cost district such kubwa, dutse, bwari, nyanya, karu, lugbe, etc. 2 bedroom is ok for u..

Then, get a business for yourself and be serious Abt it.
