The states are actually in a better position to feed the prisoners. When this happens, non indigenes who commit crimes in other states can be convicted and deportedly shipped to their own states to serve their sentences. You can not abandon your job as parents and think other states should keep feeding your wayward children by other states. Check my signature for free stuffs! 339 Likes 31 Shares |

It's taking ages to create state police but it's very easy to ship criminals to state governments. 136 Likes 10 Shares |

FreeStuffsNG: Lol, you guys have weird ideas about government and family. The government isn't your family or owners. It's going to be up to the states to pay and enforce their laws. Other states aren't going to shoulder the financial burden. I'd be surprised if you'd get a state willing to do it. It's going to be same regarding warrants. If a person has a warrant in Kano State for Tickets. Do you think Delta going to should the cost of transferring that individual. If Kano doesn't collect its not their problem. 16 Likes 3 Shares |

Time to shed some weights. The Nigerian federal government is carrying too much load than it can bear. Imagine a institutionally weak government carry 66 items on the exclusive list. Not even the US federal government Carrie’s such yeye loads. This is what make our presidents dictatorial, authoritative and territorial. 28 Likes 2 Shares |

Buhari and his gang should be thinking of going down silently rather than the noise they keep making on behalf of the incoming govt. A federal govt that is always unwilling to share powers and collects revenues that states are supposed to be collecting, but still wants to transfer its constitutional responsibilities to states, is that not wickedness 14 Likes 1 Share |

All these prisoners, what are they doing on a daily basis? Will they wake up, sit down and be waiting for food without doing anything meaningful? I am just curious. I think they should be made to farm and do some other menial jobs. There lots of land in the states, prisoners should be allowed to farm and the proceed be used to feed them. Some of them may develop interest in farming when they are out of prison instead of going back to crime 111 Likes 7 Shares |

“It is also hoped that State Governments will take advantage of the constitution amendment recently signed by President Muhammadu Buhari which makes corrections a concurrent affair. It is on record that more than 90 per cent of inmates in our facilities are state offenders. Lol why hope when you can force the issue? Just stop accepting state law offenders after a certain date. If they don't care to after that charge them double the normal rate or simply let the consequences if their actions catch up with them. |

More financial burden on states. I think all prisons should be decongested. Prisoners serving terms or awaiting trials for nonviolent crimes should retribute with their victims and be released thereafter. 6 Likes |

oz4real83: How is it wickedness if prisons are in the concurrent list and 90% of inmates are state law offenders? If you want states to have more taxing powers that fair. 5 Likes |

Very useless people. Implement regional government and resources control or give more power to the state. You want to give them more responsibility while you at the federal assume all military and paramilitary powers? Idiot 22 Likes 1 Share |

Blue3k:have u ever checked the revenue sharing formula? Why is there so much power and resources at the centre? The resources are so much that a person can afford to steal one hundred billion naira which is more than the budget of some states in Nigeria. The level of mismanagement and thievery at the centre is too much, the federal govt is transferring their responsibilities to states because it feels it has less resources, which is obviously false. 4 Likes 1 Share |

oz4real83: I have looked at the formula and acknowledged taxing powers. The states ratified the constitutional amendment so why complain now? Who's responsibility should it be to house prisoners? It doesn't make sense to have state laws, courts, and prosecutors, but not state prisons (or police). I don't get why you believe the cost of housing state law offenders should be shared with the whole nation. 4 Likes |

I am really finding it hard to come to terms with your logic. So, you're invariably saying that people should commit crime in another State should be granted safe-landing by their 'Own' States. This is grossly deficient in content when you put to context the situation of Nigeria. People just copy almost everything hook, line, and sinker from everywhere outside Nigeria and think same will reciprocate in results and outcomes, forgetting the peculiarities of Nigeria as a deeply-rooted ethno-centric society. I'm waiting for when a Sokoto beggar (with children) sentenced by a Lagos State Court for 6months in a correctional centre would not be granted FULL pardon as soon as she's deported to Sokoto. Somethings can't just work in Nigeria. Begging remains legal and scripturally backed up up North, but Lagos State sees same as an offence when done carrying child(ren) even though the proceeds of the act was going to be used for the child/children upkeep. If the prisoner should be profiled according to state and then take responsibility in feeding them or send them feeding allowance, state like Anambra may go bankrupt. 6 Likes 1 Share |

KingPure: Here's another example do you think Southern states are going to enforce Sharia judgments for Sharia states? This will be especially interesting with death sentences or life in prison. Lol this why I said the burden of enforcing laws will be on those states. 2 Likes |

Then FG should also stop prosecuting and sending people to jail. You can't be sending people to jail when you know you can't feed them. |
