I like this your idea. For me, the ideology of a human being with genius mind rivalling Superman (when Superman too is a genius) is becoming tiring to me.
Lex should just be behind the scene and running things until he probable invents technologies that can make him go toe-to-toe with the man of steel before he surfaces.
I really am not against Lex being a Superman film villain but not this early. He can be introduced but as a character not just a baddie. Seriously there's a way you can write Lex without making him redundant. He is now an anti-hero now sef independent of Superman.
They should end this notion of Lex always trying to kill Superman. Yea, he doesn't have to be friends with him but they can be rivals who occasionally will work together. Smallville did this right.

Really didn't matter.... The film was massively flopping and had no LEGS either way.
Super Mario Bros was announced for digital in just two weeks of debuting and still cleaned out the box office cash available.
Even with the movie out for digital one month after debut, it still popped up at the box office.. Universal animation movies have been doing that since COVID and they still go on to make big bucks.

I get you, but personally, I feel the movie should have been given one more week before this announcement, in other not to discourage those that wants to see it.

The additional revenues would have aided in complementing revenues from home videos and PVOD. I just hope with this announcement, the movie can still pull some cash to complement home video and PVOD revenues.

Yeah, Lex should be established as a Superman villain in the DCU, but he shouldn't be the villain of the first two Superman films, but the third. With this, they tune down on his over usage while also making him the peak Superman villain, that is, the villain of the climax to a Superman trilogy. The first two films prepare the grounds for his eventual confrontation with Superman.

David Corenswet has the Clark Kent look

Rachel Brosnahan has the Lois Lane vibe.

I'm okay with their appearance and vibes, now let me see how well they can play the characters.

The only thing giving me hope they might see some serious bucks in the secondary market is this leak numbers.
If they get $150-200mn in DVD sales they might be able to curb the losses down to tens of millions in losses, instead of hundreds. Who knows, maybe break even. πŸ™ƒ

Yeah, but I don't think they will have that luxury of time to be able to flesh out all these because of other characters and it's a movie. Series and tv shows can do those things because the much time they have to build cohesive stories and this is just one of my many reasons while I don't rate tv show/series that high; it's more easier to do a better story in series than just one way movie with 2hrs+.

Good thing Gunn has stated the DCU spans movies, animation and tv series. I don't see why Lex can't be a major player in Checkmate series or in Wallet tv series. Or in an eventual Justice league film.

I saw this leak news earlier this week. But the views is massive though, this shows people are willing to watch, but not just in cinema. It has a high chance of performing in PVOD and Home Video.

Lex ain't the main villain in Superman Legacy. He'd be introduced and used to set the tone for future projects. Thank God we also have the Authority being introduced in the movie. This won't be a case of Superman being the first superhero to come out openly on earth like we've experienced in previous films.
Lex is an important person in the formation of Checkmate, so I expect to have some role in the series and other team projects in the DCU.

At least we can say with facts that Gunn is a master at character development. So there's a high chance he'd do right by these characters especially when things are super easy now that they're linking up even animation, TV shows and movies all together.

Bro, wait till after the reboot before you start complaining.

If they didn't have confidence in their rebooted continuity, they would have restored the snyderverse since. But if after all the campaign for the snyderverse and WB/DC still choose to go with the reboot, then it means they have confidence in it.

As for the Flash failing, The Flash won't flop, it may not gross up to expectation (all thanks to Ezra being a dick) but it won't flop. I don't see a reason why that movie will flop. I don't see how a movie that:

It is well known that the Break even point of JL was $750M. So you see why JL that grossed $657M was a failure.

But the Flash has a budget of $200M. Going with the 3X multiplier, the Flash will need $600M to gross even, so with a BO of $700M, the Flash will be a success. Heck even with the JL gross it will be a success howbeit such gross will be a medium grosser.

Don't forget $700M is a high grosser, minimum high grosser according to industry rating.

JL failed because the movie itself was bad. That's not the same case or issue with The Flash.

Flash won't fail simply because of Ezra. The movie is way bigger than him. They're lots of other factors involve. All WBD needs to do is play their marketing game well and things will work out find.
Funny enough, Flash just needs to gross just over $600M to be a success, but it will gross more than that.
The Flash will gross a minimum of $700M. Watch out.

CAP!!!

When WB lost money massively in 2019 with ALL their movies that year premium flops, Joker was the one to save the day. Same thing happened in 2021 with most WB movies underperforming except GvK. The Batman gave WB the profit margin they needed early 2022 to get back up.

WB just needs similar movies like that with probably Dune 2 and Barbie.
Only The Nun part 2 will cover half that expenses.

If Aquaman and Blue Beetle underperforms, James Gunnverse might be shelved. WB needs to start making profit as it is cause I doubt investors would want to invest in coming DC projects.
That's why I am saying James Gunn better quit the media nonsense cause if Zaslav calls the whole thing off, it'll be a big embarrassment for him. He should stay low key, cause as it is, everyone is waiting for I told you so. Superman project is very different from Guardians of the Galaxy and would be closely watched and nitpicked at every turn like MOS and Superman Returns.
Gunn needs to shut up about the project till it's filmed and marked for release.

Alright, only time will tell. First of all, CBR are merely questioning; no conclusions have been drawn yet. Second, if you compare 2019, 2022, and 2023, you'll discover that WB is on course to lose more money this year than those other years. In fact, I don't think you should even bring up 2019, because there were no projects with a production budget of more than $100 million in that year.

Now there are still six major projects to be released this year, two of which are CBM (which I think will be two more flops), I just don't see any of the other four movies breaking the $1 billion mark, but time will tell.

In all, I keep telling people that to make a very good Superman movie is one of the most difficult tasks (if not the most difficult) to pull off.
It's not about getting the RT score o! Will the movie not be boring like Superman Returns.
Almost every tense scenes involving Clark/Superman will be nitpicked to the core because everyone thinks with his power there will always be another better ways to handle the situations he's in...

Lmao... I still dey tell Una to rest with this shelved talk.

WB Pictures Animation has been making flops since 2018 back to back, but that hasn't made its parent company shelved the animation studio. In fact Zaslav and co is planning for two animated movies per year from WBPA starting 2024. If a smaller loss making company wasn't shelved or cancelled in Zaslav's brutal axe, I see no way DC films would.
Let's stop the cap now bruh.

All studios have some time of difficulty in their history. That doesn't mean they'd stop producing films especially the big 5.

Zaslav have consistently talked about Harry Potter and Superman (DC) in virtually all his talks about the studio. Doesn't seem he'd be backing down because of a few snags. Current WB execs are different from what we're used to.

Instead, Zaslav would sacrifice the smaller projects for the bigger ones if he really cares about his profits.

Gunn can continue talking as he likes, it's his right.... Whether his movie flopped or not without him saying shΓ―t people were still gonna talk loudly. Let's not pretend there's not a dedicated set of people waiting for him to fail. They were the one that started talking before Gunn started giving it to them hot hot. So make everybody dey him dey.

Either way you die, why not go out graciously.

First off, no one takes CBR seriously these days... πŸ˜‚
All they do is clickbait headlines and stories so ppl can visit their dead website.

Also, it's not a must to make $1bn before your movie is termed a success. I don't understand you peeps obsession with it when not even β…’ of movies released yearly will even get near it. Hundreds of movies are released yearly and just one or two and at most 6 movies will make it to that spot. And even Disney ain't smelling that either this year.

Wrong!! 2019 had Godzilla: King of The Monsters with $170mn and Detective Pikachu $150mn. Even WB smaller movies that were expected to do decently almost all flopped that year. 2019 is widely regarded as WBs poorest year box office wise and 2022 slightly contends with it.

Very smart decision judging the rest of the movies for the year as flops since the first few ones missed target. πŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒ

I only said I was expecting two movies to flop and those are CBM, and it's not about the first few missing the target, the DCEU brand is dead. A lot of information CBR shares can be verified with other news outlets, they don't deal on rumours. They were one of the few that predicted that The Flush will open it's 3 day weekend with $75m or less while you were running around with info from "industry experts" betting your kidney that the flush will turn a huge profit. πŸ˜‚
