ARE YOU WORKING MORE THAN 20 HOURS AS A STUDENT?

The Home Office is now going through people’s work records when they apply for the Graduate Visa and canceling their visa.

So, if you have been overworking, you are breaching the condition of your leave by working more than 20 hours term-time and they are waiting for you.

I received several instructions on canceled leave in the last two weeks. Repent, for the ‘kingdom’ of the Home Office is at hand. You have been warned. Repost aggressively!

If you have already worked more than 20hrs, what is the best thing to do right now?

If you're under 40, you can open a LISA account.

With that you can get up to £1000 in bonus per tax year.

https://www.gov.uk/lifetime-isa

If above 40, you can try Cash ISA, Nutmeg, Monzo Pot, Chase Savings, Loxbox.

If i were in your shoes, I would not use my car......... Your vehicle does not have instructor's pedal fitted........

That instructor's pedal, is your examiner's life insurance....... Without it, your examiner would feel exposed like a fish, out of its pond........ 😁

The examiner would inspect your vehicle, and would fail it, for the slightest reason....... Just pay about £100 and use an instructors vehicle..........

I don’t think the car would be failed, couple of my friends and people here used their cars. It’s advisable for them to use the instructors car for 1-2 hours before the test, so they get used to it.

Don't use your car as your own instructor can even blow whistle on you as he aware that you brought the car to the venue of the exam with provisional license

Not really.

The examiner would rather terminate the test at any danger and this can also happen with instructor's vehicle with dual control.

The law says you can use your personal vehicle provided all conditions are met. These examiners are professionals, they don't use emotions.

Well done bro, My friend called me last weekend and told me the council didn’t reply the mail but sent a letter instead granting them exemption 😀 so it worked. Thanks once again bro.
davide470:
On this, I helped draft the email below and so far, I have had 100% success rate from people I shared with. Let the student send this to the council ccing the partner.

Good evening,
My name is xx, a full-time international student at xx University and my partner's name is xx.
I reside at xx. I had initially requested a council tax exemption as a full-time student but was told my partner is a liable party for council tax because he is not a full-time student. We received the attached bill to this effect for the period xx 2022 - xx 2023 wherein it was split into xx equal installments.

However, Article 3 of the Council Tax (Exempt Dwellings) Order, SI 1992/558 provides that 'A dwelling is exempt from council tax if it falls within any of the following Class N: a dwelling which is either:
(a) occupied by one or more residents all of whom are relevant persons;
(b) occupied only by one or more relevant persons as term time accommodation.

A relevant person means:
(i) a student;
(ii) a student's spouse or dependant being in each case a person who is not a British citizen and who is prevented, by the terms of his leave to enter or remain in the UK, from taking paid employment or from claiming benefits or (iii) a person to whom Class C (school or college leavers) of regulation 3(1) of the Council Tax (Additional Provision for Discount Disregards) Regulation 1992 applies.

From the foregoing, please note that I belong to category a(i) I am a student and my partner belongs to category a(ii) he is the spouse of a student. We are both non-British citizens and his visa prevents him from claiming benefits. Subsequently, we qualify for the 100% council tax exemption.

Furthermore, please see below links citing cases whereby 100% exemptions were granted to student dependants by the Court:
https://www.casemine.com/judgement/uk/5a8ff72860d03e7f57ea8dcf/amp
https://www.lawgazette.co.uk/law/local-government/65852.article

We look forward to your kind response..

Councils dread court cases most times as it does not make sense to be dragged to court for £150/m tax.

1) I made sure my tyres were within approved thread minimum. Drive into an MOT shop and beg them to look at your tyres.

2) Ensure no warning light is showing

3) Make sure your controls are working.

4) Mine was a manual car, so make sure your gear and clutch works.

5) Have at least 2 L signs for front and back.

6) Have a small 2nd rear view mirror for the examiner too. This would be attached on the passenger side of the windscreen.

7) Make sure your car is neat and tidy and you haven't smoked in the car before the test if you do smoke.

cool Know how to open your bonnet and able to check all necessaries if asked.

9) My insurance was intact.

10) If you have someone with a valid license (3 years) to drive you to the venue, that would be great. If not, get your instructor to accompany you. I drove my instructor to and fro. Paid £60 for 2.5hrs as it was my own car. He waited while we rode to wonder land.

Relax and drive them crazy 🤪

Lies Lies or rather...not entirely true.

I used my own car and it was excellent.

I only made sure I had someone to accompany me , in this case - my 3 days borrowed instructor.
