As for London, forget about it grin grin that consulate is in a league of it's own. crazy how it was crazily backlogged during covid season, but it's dusted other post.

If you are not current the NVC will not send you the 60 days reminder. That is the only time you will not get the mails.
aomisola:
When were you DQ'ed? I was told from a reliable source that NVC no longer sends the case status update since July 2023. I am January 2023 dq'ed, and the last time I got the status update was on July 30th. Though it was meant to be received every 60 days, it has been 90 days, and I have not received it. Fingers crossed, though.

1. Yes, you can use a relative who is permanently residing in the US.
2. The answer here is NO, except you filed for I-140 inside the USA.
3. They asked, do you have a document to establish that you have been vaccinated according to USA law.
Select "yes" for this, as vaccination is a prerequisite for the interview.
Do we answer yes or no ( since we have not taken all vaccines yet). We also do not have any documents. Is there a place to get it in Nigeria?
You will still have to undergo medical examination in Lagos before the interview attendance and collection of visa. Please select "yes"
4. Yes, and please try to complete this page as fast as you can. It took me more than three weeks to fill this page due to the system's automatic logout after 20 or 30 minutes of inactivity. To beat the system from logging me out, I copied all my details on a notepad before transferring them to the online form.
Must we add include secondary school and university hostel, particularly for our children in school, or is our home address enough?
Yes. I included the locations where I resided during my BSc, MSc, PhD, and even during my postdocs... lol
5. Not all of them. I only provided my social media handles for LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Nairaland, and Telegram.
Thank you.

Thank you so much for your response.
We are however having issues with the payment.
Please I've sent you an email, kindly share your whatsapp no so I can reach you faster.
Thank you for your assistance so far.

Let me share what I think is the reason for scheduling changes for interviews
Its the availability of consular officers who conduct interviews

Although there are Nigerian staff hired to consular section they do not conduct interviews and their numbers have not reduced.
However consular staff especially interviewers have reduced in numbers since COVID those positions were not replaced and their work hours have reduced. That's why US embassy reintroduced 'droobox' as Interview waiver to handle backlog for some nonimmigrant category.

Let me share my experience
I had my immigrant visa interview in 2021 (reschedule cos of COVID.) I had my time for 8am..we were probably 30 ppl at most and yet I was the last to be interviewed. They only had immigrant interviews that day. I asked the staff they said they dont do them together anymore. I was waiting for almost 5hours I was the last to leave. They were periods we were just waiting 30-45minutes no consular officer. Then one would appear interview say 4ppl and leave. In the past us embassy would schedule 100/200 ppl per day of all categories
Post COVID that has changed

A question for those for those on the EB pathway,
Does being out of status in the US prevent one for using this pathway.

Got this question from a friend who knows a lecturer with Phd who stayed back in the US since COVID and is stuck.
I said no it's not possible
But I had a rethink because I know that for some immigrant pathways previous status is immaterial

This is becoming very sad and frustrating...

WE all know this is BS Excuse. Even the Consulate staffers know that. How do you then explain Immediate relative getting scheduled interviews every month. Nothing stops them to include ABUJA in the IV interview process. This is annoying AF to say the least. This fawqery just means they are bumping CR/IR ahead of EB classes (which i don't think is up to 200 from January to May this is a case load ER docs will attend to in less than a month).
Riddle me this if DOL (Perm), USCIS and NVC (Thats' like 18 months itself for PERM based petitioners with premium processing) have done all the task that needs to be done for you, why is scheduling an interview that shouldn't take more than 10 minutes take almost a year to schedule is beyond imagination.

It's funny you mentioned other immigrant visa categories
IR have moved from a typical 6month wait pre COVID to a now a two year wait. And IRs don't have visa limits

F1, F2A F2B,F3,F4 which have visa number limts are getting 2years wait even when they are DQ and priority date has passed. And these categories already wait 6-20years based on their queue before they can even get to NVC stage to submit docs.

Embassy won't treat Immigrant Visas at Abuja it's their policy . Highly improbable that will change. It's been that way for decades

I saw an advert for consular assistant for Us embassy, maybe they dont have staff that will conduct the interview ,it might be due to insecurity in Nigeria. From the summary of visa issued ,other countries are getting E2.

This too shall pass soon and hopefully we all will get ID date and have our visas.

Just a brief clarification, I see you went through PERM. I thought one must be in the US and already working with the employer before the employer can fill EB2 (PERM) for the person. Also wondering why you are going through consular processing. Guess because you are outside the US.

My question is, is it possible the employer file for the employee even before commencement of work in the US. Thanks

I was going to respond to @Taal i no get energy to do back and forth. My silence on your response doen't mean your response is correct.

@Adedammy009 Definitely!!! studied in the states, worked in the states for a few post study, figured green card route didn't take much time difference (was going to use the time off for personal reason) since my attorney foresaw H1B lottery will be a shitshow, The new employer tried applying for H1 nonetheless.

As for employment PERM, with the righ degree/certification/experience and connection (nothing illegal) + if you are in the right field, you can be sponsored, you don't need to be working for employer to get that.

This is not a bigot statement => due to most asian, europeans and some canadian peeps screwing up employers, they get sponsored via green card then abscond for another job after 6 months. The employer is at a loss after paying for all the fees associated with the process. They figured it's best to go through H1B , then by year 6 or in0between that time the employer can file for your green card. The chances are slimmer now if you go through Consular processing than if you do AOS.

H1b as we know it is a non -immigrant dual intent work visa. At this rate it's a shit show. An employer files for this for his/ her prospective employee. requirement usually miminim of bachelors degree / equivalent to US 4 year degree. Your attorney files the application with 10$ (this is separate from the filing fee your attorney charge you) .

Every candidate gets thrown into this lottery for 65,000 slots + 20k extra for graduates of higher degrees from us schools (at least Msc from us school). as of this year application was as high as 700k+. If lucky enough to be picked in the lottery, petition fee about 460 gets paid, then you file all the necessary docs through uscis starting on April 1st. if it's a legit petition, you should get response (approval or Request for more evidence aka RFE) within 60 days. Afterwards, you schedule interview date for your non-immigrant visa through your local embassy between August/september since You are only able to commence work on october 1st of the year the lottery was done.

If memory serves me right, there is a nigerian youtuber that made a video in 21 or 22 about her H1b experience in Abuja. Can't recall the link i'd have posted it here.

As for transferring to the UK, if you are not a resident of the uk (work, study, etc), you can't do third country visa application.

IT's best to look into cap-exempt H1b (usually non-profit institutions, research institutions) vs H1b. No lottery required, the pay usually is considerably less though , i don't have personal experience with H1b cap-exempt. if i may ask why EB2-NIW person dey do H1b?
