Don’t derail this thread with strawman argument.

None of the budget you quoted says they borrowed almost 70% + to finance it. We are on Abia case, let’s speak to the topic.

Oh, we'll focus on Abia but when threads that don't concern obi in any way is brought to FP you'll find a way to sneak obi's name just to denigrate him, abi?

Shame on you

Can you give an example of such project that will generate fund as captured in that budget?

—Works (roads and bridges) receive 16.97% @96billion

—Land and Housing receive 9.9% @ 56billion

—Agriculture 5.2% @ 29billion

—Healthcare receive 15% @ 85billion

The above is almost half of the budget. Could you please let us know which of these items you think will generate massive revenue for him as quick wins within 2 years?

All esp works..
We are talking of a state with Aba in it

They are still far better than all ur governors including Obi, the only reasonable governor from ur side that comes close to them in recent time is former eboyin state governor. Any other person is just ostrich's head in d sand.

Still better, how?

Loans are usually gotten over 10 - 20 year periods, the important thing here is making substantial long term investments

If Otti is a visionary leader for wanting to borrow almost 70% of his budget in his first year in office, what then is Obi?

Obedient always claim Peter Obi did not borrow so hence that makes him a good leader. Then now you Obedient are praising Otti to high even when he alone is borrowing 400billion in one performance year, almost 70% of the budget.

Make Alex Otti fear God nao.

You have not been following what Obi is saying then. Obi is not against borrowing. He is against borrowing for consumption. E.g you borrow and use the money to pay salary.

Alex Otti is borrowing. But look at the percentage for capital expenditures. 84% which is the highest I have seen in a Nigerian budget.

Who said so? That's a very stvpid comment to make otherwise why would every govt earmark funds in their budget to capital expenditure yearly?

But when bubu was borrowing money for infrastructure, people, including the opposition, criticized him.

Let me ask you a question... If you have 1m in your account and Davido or Otedola asks you to borrow him 950k ... Won't you borrow him the money?

People criticised Buhari because for all the debt accrued, we don't have anything much to show for it!

Otti came 6 months ago and started working massively to earn the trust of the Abia people that is why they can trust him to borrow 400b because already there is evidence everywhere that he will deliver.

Well, the man is a banker. But what he's proposing to borrow is a lot of money. I hope the House of Assembly asked him how he intends to repay the loan and not just clap for him for planning to plunge the state into a huge debt.

For a state that usually budget a little over 100 billion to rocket to 500 billion, it shows the governor has strong connections with lending institutions because no sane lender can take that risk. That's why the richest states in Nigeria are almost always the biggest debtors.

Ok sir. You are saying that the difference between otti and bubu is that otti will deliver and bubu didn't.

Well, can't wait to see Abia in 2027

Borrowing to loot is the problem..

What the funds would be used for has been clearly stated.. and we are 90% sure it would happen as written..

Abia has been in infrastructural decay for 2 decades. If you think without borrowing , Otti can solve the problem , you must be a wicked person.

If Obi’s mandate wasn’t stolen , he wound have still borrowed because Nigeria is decayed , the difference is that we would be rest assured the borrowings won’t be looted.

Obi didn’t borrow in Anambra because the realities on ground didn’t warrant such ..

If you have ever been to Abia, you would understand what I mean …

And he must deliver because we Igbos know how to hold our leaders accountable unlike those people that use propaganda to shield their leaders.

Beautiful thread here. You see the way the conversation is going, very matured intellectual discuss devoid of tribalism.

Kudos to the contributors even though the creator of this thread is a covert tribalist.

Taking all the time and energy to reply all this miscreants that have not gone beyond the boundaries of their villages is waste of time.
No Abia person is complaining cos Otti will definitely deliver.
Let him even borrow more and develop Abia state.
Before my very eyes, Aba is now a huge investment gold mine within a short period of time. Those that know understand what I'm saying .

“Financing the deficit: The deficit of N401,162,378,914 will be financed by new borrowings estimated at N385,271,027,214. Fifty percent of the loans will be sourced externally, whilst the balance will be procured domestically.

This budget is full of illogical and absurd figures, I don't even know where to start..

Abia's outstanding debt is N191 Billion + N92 Billion Otti took from ADB + this N401 Billion = N684 Billion

Just imagine, small Abia with one of the lowest incomes in Nigeria saddled with N684 Billion in debt and liabilities.

Now, let's look at the joke and deception Otti is trying to pull.

Abia's IGR is a measly N20 Billion and the total FAAC for 2022 was N56 Billion = N76 Billion.

So, where exactly did Otti all of a sudden get N166 Billion from?

You cannot double your income in less than a year, the N166 Billion is a lie and a deceptive move.

Now, how do you service N684 Billion debt with N76 Billion income?

This budget is rubbish, lies, and deception.

Sad.

Lagos's debt profile is N877 Billion

Abia's outstanding debt is N191 Billion + N92 Billion Otti took from ADB + this N401 Billion = N684 Billion

Abia is now the largest debtor state after Laagos with nothing to show.

Me sef,I shock at the budget figure
Over 300 percent increase over that of 2022 Okezie's administration.
Listened to Ferdinand Ekeoma, his SA on media and publicity this morning

He said the government the essence of this borrowing is for production, just like the late Sam Mbakwe did.
Mentioned the opening up of the Owaza industrial park which would attract huge investment, and the setting up of a Medical village to boost medical tourism.....and more.

He said the loan will be easily repaid once these investments kick off.

We keeping our fingers crossed

Generate ₦‎161 Billion

Borrow ₦‎380 billion

This might raise eyebrows but seeing 84% capital expenditure gives some comfort that these loans will be used on projects that might cause more funds to be generated gives some comfort.

Hopefully Otti can become that Governor Abia needs

you are smart. the key is the 84% capital expenditure. Even this is on the assumption that the project expenditure will not be inflated as usual.

Borrowing for recurrent expenditure is the true mortal sin.

The truth is every part of Nigeria has serious infrastructural deficiency, poor economic development and needs serious improvement but denying fact and lying to one's self for political reason or to maintain fake and unnecessary superiority is a mental sickness generally associated to u guys.
