Fellow Nairalanders,

I'm pleased to wish you a Happy New Year!!

2024 will be the year of Nairaland's resurgence. I will face Nairaland squarely like I used to before the discouraging Data Loss Incident of 2014. I will hire more hands to help us to improve Nairaland.

The problems of Nairaland that we should have solved years ago will be solved.

* We will defeat tribalists, trolls, & spammers.
* We will complete our advertising platform.
* We will improve the UI and UX.
* Home page topics will be educative & fresh.
* We will reverse the anti-women trends.

However, I must warn you that things will get worse before they get better. Please stand with us and fight for us as Nairaland faces the tough challenges of 2024, which have already started.

Happy New Year and thanks for using Nairaland!

Seun Osewa,
Nairaland's Founder.

As long as you will not use it to promote western propaganda, we have enough from the main stream media, with nairaland, at least we could discuss them. I'm all good for it. 2024 is going to be a rough year, serious wars will start, we need a platform that considers all side to the stories.

First of all, they should be parity between Muslims and Christians. If we Christians are required to swear an oath before commenting on their threads, it should be the same for them.

Secondly, we need the block, thumbs down πŸ‘Ž or dislike buttons.

Thirdly, the method of sending dm's is too outdated and stressful. Who uses email address to send dm's? It should be direct like every other social media platform.

My supermods were reluctant, so I banned a ton of people myself. For hours and hours. But I couldn't sustain that indefinitely. It's like cleaning a house with multiple toddlers. As soon as you stop cleaning, the house will get dirty again. My supermods could not be persuaded to handle the spammers the way that I wanted them to.

What has changed is that I am ready to bring in new people to do the job and if they fail I am ready to replace them as many times as necessary in order to find someone who will do it. The problems of Nairaland will always be on my mind due to my presence. Solutions will be found.

But I need the assistance.of Nairalanders. I cannot do it alone. We need people who can be trusted with responsibilities such as the ending of name-checking on the crime section of Nairaland.

Yet I offered you my help (off course not pro bono) and what did you do? Or did my username dissuade you? If yes then once again it does it's job efficiently of stifling the unstable and chaotically enthusiastic from bothering my peace.

Well done

We will create a Christian section which will also have oath taking.

Why resort to oath taking in anything? Oath taking has never served any purpose but to cage the true nature of people albeit temporarily.

Remove all oaths and make all threads uniform as all things are in their natural state.

See the Romance section.

You clearly do not understand your own forum. The so called anti woman threads or should I use the word misogyny, is this really what they are?

I have read most tof these threads where these red pill people talk to each other , at most I find the content amusing but never anti women.

Why do people resist all form of change? The era the world is in now , the young men are seeking a change from the normalized weakend and emasculated state to reawaken their inner selves.

I am not saying their isn't a lot of toxic content but to label men educating each other as anti women is farfetched and untrue .

I have seen many anti men thread (if you would call it that) I do not think this is the best approach.

What in reality is anti women? Please indulge me .

We will ban then and delete their tribalistic posts. We will ban everyone that uses ethnic slurs.

Good . If truly you will implement these this time around.

Nairaland is a 2 billion naira worth at the minimum of venture if seun decides to take it seriously

Seun still runs this as a side project from his "cubicle" in sango-ota .

Knowing Seun to be an introvert who doesn't like the spot light or want to be popular just as myself, if I were him

I will

Run Nairaland as a business' by

1. Opening a physical office space in Lagos, Abuja, Sango-ota as HQ

2. Employ a CEO to run it while I continue to serve as founder and CTO

3. Employ a full team of enginneers, UX front end designers, marketers

Phase 1
Manage

1. Front page should be very current with update as it happens, ( I see a news/even on instablog and see it days after on the frontpage), alot of people only visit the front page, so it must be regularly updated and of high quality

2. limit posting to some section for new accounts, like have some way you rank accounts, new account should have a 3 month sandbox restriction.

3. make it impossible to register multiple account from thesame device,

4. Use text verification and real email ( no temp mails) for registration

5. Moderation : Each section should have atleast 2 mod and very active section 3 with 1 supermod.

6. Tribalism and hate speech should attract ban, device ban, email ban ,phone number banif possible an IP ban after two warnings

Phase 2

Build

Implement new feature,

One of the allure of Nairaland is it simplistic UI and fast loading time

That doesn't need to change but it can be better,

1. Add Night mode, this will switch the background to black which is easy on the eyes at night, users can toggle on off

2. Add a bit of self moderation by adding a dislike button (when a comment has so many disikes, a moderator manually access if it should be hidden, users can still view the comment if clicked

3. An email system should be designed, communication stays on nairaland instead of third part email (all nairaland user get a user@nairaland.com email after 6 months of active usage provided the haven't been banned more than thrice,.

4. Build a robust ad management system, from creation, funding , moderation,

5.make it easy to share, the share button can be linked to whatsapp, fb, tiktok, IG, so when someone click on share they can also share outside the platform
a short url like naira.land(a business savvy person will buy this domain and sell it to Seun when he wakes up for 10m)will also make sharing easy

6. native ios/app with great push feature

7. Add some other Africa countries section based on data and traffic from those countries

maybe more later if I think of more but these will increase traffic(currently <30million Monthly according to similarweb ) by atleast 30% within 9.5 month

How can i contact you? I will need ideas similar to this on a big project of mine

What alternative would you suggest?

Only those with something to hide fear the light .😌Twitter or rather X your main competition isn't so anonymous, yet has achieved global feme and dominance.
What has the so called anonymity on Nairaland brought it? If you can answer this objectively then you have the answer. 😌

Strive to understand purpose and alignment of your calling seun.

Understand what you are here for and what must be done then to align your platform will not be so difficult.

Have a good one my fellow traveler.

May God crown your renewed interest and work on the website with great success.

It is good news that you will be checking your biased supermods who may have their own personal interests on how they post threads on the FP, in addition to the tribalism challenges.

It is good to keep the discussion as anonymous as possible, for greater participation in liberty just as newspapers do for online comments.

Well, it quite easy for people to register multiple account on the platform. Therefore, does ban mitigate such?
If someone's accounts keep getting banned consistently, they will eventually learn. It's the lack of consistency that empowers them.

Maybe because you sacked him and made a show of it on Twitter?
That would demoralize anyone. Did you apologize to him for that debacle?

All employees deserve respect. Paying them doesn't make them slaves. What you did was very disrespectful.

Include a block button, I made this suggestion to you around 2019, but you seem reluctant to do that. The major thing keeping me on this forum is the Express Entry thread and its other related thread (like the TEF thread). Once I have collected ITA and I am cleared to immigrate to Canada this year, I won't be on this forum except you include a block button... I prefer to block tribalists, trolls and annoying forum posters myself rather than wait for you or you moderators. Their comments would still be visible to others, however I would never be able to see them, if I were to block their accounts.
