patrickmuf: All these talks of football heads is just another excuse giving exercise and has nothing to do with the clubs failure. Its like failing a job interview and blaming potholes on the road Is Omar Berrada more of a football person than Ed Woodward? Ed Woodward was the CEO when Man Utd was successful under Ferguson, His non football background did not matter then Who knows the CEO of Liverpool and is he a football person? Billy Hogan was a Sales guy for FSG The current CEO of my club is Jan Dreesen a former Banker The current CEO of Arsenal was an Accountant (Like Woodward) who studied Economics at Oxford his career, he was former Strategy Consultant for Delloitte which is similar to what Woodward did at PwC before joining Man Utd Florentino Perez was a Civil Engineer before he got involved with Real Madrid Juan Laporta was a lawyer before he was voted President of Barcelona Were basically fans who had other careers before they got involved in the football club This City success was because they got Pep Guardiola, They had other coaches before him who were not successful. Despite the Omar Berrada being there I am sure someone will say its because of the football person that made him target Pep Guardiola. No anyone who casually followed football for 3yrs between 2008 and 2015 will know that Pep Guardiola is a game changer |

Lol. The butterfly thinks itself a bird. Jumped into my mentions with disparaging comments but I’m the rude one. Nigeria may be hard on you but thank God I left that hellhole already. You should look in the mirror more, Patrick T. Conservative arrogance doesn’t look good on you. 1 Like |

raumdeuter:Dayo, I have always argued here that we have spent as much as our rivals and have engaged the services of good managers over time but some others feel that our poor recruitment of players (overpaying and in some cases, signing players that are not good enough) points to the board and to be honest, they do have a point. One of the strong proponents of the logic that we need to overhaul the management team is the first to sound pessimistic here hence my post. I just want us to try again with a different setup at the management level to see if it will improve our recruitment process...In recruitment, the focus is on incoming and outgoing. |

Lol una go explain tire. Watch them shift the goal post soon. Fact is, the manager is the most important in a football club. We just need to continue to hire and fire until we get someone that works for us. That’s how things are at top clubs. Management exists for the commercial and administrative stuff. We don’t need a football person as CEO or CFO to win trophies. 5 Likes |

TrebleChamp: Woodward has been with United since 2007. Ferguson left in 2013. So how did Ferguson never work with Woodward Admitted Gill was CEO under Ferguson. Now Check the profile of David Gill and lets compare with Ed Woodward to tell how David Gill was a football person and Woodward wasnt Both of them were accountant, both worked for the same company Below is the profile of the successful "Football person" CEO David Gill before he joined Manchester United Born and raised in Reading, Berkshire,[2] Gill studied at the University of Birmingham (BCom Industrial, Economic and Business Studies, 1978), becoming a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in 1981. After a two-year spell in San Francisco, he left the firm in 1986 to join The BOC Group in its corporate finance department, and then Avis Rent a Car System in 1990. At Avis, he was responsible for the disposal of the European leasing business to GE Capital for US$1 billion in August 1992. Subsequently, he was finance director at Proudfoot PLC, the worldwide management consulting business, then quoted on the London Stock Exchange, and then at First Choice Holidays PLC, the third largest UK tour operator, before joining Manchester United F.C. in 1997. |

patrickmuf: Everyone overpays for players. Its when the players don't deliver that it becomes an issue 80% of Pep signings under the same Berrada were considered overpaid until they delivered. Did anyone ever think Dias, Laporte, Stones, Ake, Grealish, Bernado Mendy etc were worth that amount paid for them? But when they deliver no one cares how much was paid 20M for a flop is overpayment, 100m for a hit is underpayment. In hindsight, 100m for Salah would have been a bargain while 15m for Antony would have been an overpayment Signing players that are not good enough are also signs of usage. Do you think Man Utd intentionally went to sign bad players? All the bad signings were doing well and some were snatched from their destination clubs If Alexis and Magure had gone to City do you think we will be calling them bad signings? In most cases the coach point to the profile of players they want and the board gets it for him. You think ETH did not ask specifically for Onana and Antony and the board just dropped them on his laps? The problem is not the CEO, A CEO in most cases knows next to nothing about technical football beyond being a fan Perez is the greatest CEO currently, and left to him, he wants to flood every position with galacticos. Perez bought David Beckham a right winger when he already had Figo and told the coach to fit him somewhere. Beckham a RW ended laying CM, DM and even RB for Madrid. that is a CEO in action Was this Berrada not there when Man City was buying Wilfred Bony, Nastasic, Savic, Fernando and many players who flopped |
