Buying at N19 without figures to justify it, get as e get

Transcorp is a growth stock.
But growth at what price.

It is good to accumulate at less than N11
Na the word accumulate they sweet my belle.God give us money to buy before the thing turn to seplet or Dan cement of now

Result is the koko for every investor.
I am even happy seeing such figure from Transcorp this morning.Buying at 19 is not regrettable with the latest result.seeing this opportunity is good to accumulate at the current prices or below. The man who bought at 19 will smile in 12 months.I assure him.

At N19, that will be a PE of 34.

When the average PE on NGX is 14.

To be on the safe side na to target stock between PE of 7 to 21.

21 should be the maximum.

Better if one can get below 7

Lol, he's not selling a course na. Just stocks picks

This is going to be a long post. You can refer to it all through today and tomorrow ..I will keep modifying incase i miss something.

Suggestions to check out on studying valuation: Either Passive or active, Treat this like a business. set a goal e.g Board membership of company you are invested in, 100million unit holding per company starts with valuation of 1 company , this is acheivable.

I.The challenge you will run into is that they are mostly north american based content. Valuation of companies wether in india, USA japan or nigeria hold same principles to greater extent, difference is in local market interaction which has to be considered alongside valuation metrics.

II. everyone in the "Value investing" space around the world recycle / regurg/ refine Ben Graham (morphed into buffet, munger), franklin templeton's approach. Search youtube for the following finance content creator to understand valuation of companies (They are mostly US based)

III. Youtube is your friend (cheaper, it's a function of finding a finance content that is easy to understand)

a. New money How to Calculate the Intrinsic Value of a Stock in 2023 (Full Example)
b. Peter lynch - would not get much from youtube get his book/ audiobook - I think there is an hour long content . good for understanding approach to see companies
c. Meetkevin youtube channel- To get a good gist of macroeconomic news from a millenials perspective especially US federal reserve moves on interest rates and other news. he is your ELI5 (he explains like you are 5) guy. you just have to go past his advertisement ,it grows on you over time. This is a good tool to have knowing that when the fed reserve sneeze all other central bankers catch a cold.

IV. *** OGG here on nairaland seem to dish out valuable information. You can check out his service to add to your repository of knowledge as you study to get better at valuation. (Disclaimer: I am not a client of his,not used his service either but watching his content over the years, you may check it out to see if it's of value to you or not)
*** Also there's a nairaland discord channel (mostly Tech analysis focused)

V. INVESTOPEDIA is your friend and free. When evaluating annual reports and terminology doesn't make sense, this serve as your financial dictionary when reviewing annual reports.

VI. Blogs / Webpages / financial news I use daily / monthly:-

*** (subscription based if cost isn't an issue. use the free trial first if you are an individual to see if the value you get commiserate with what you want). I use thise services to get a broad idea of all companies i am exposed to before studying annual reports a) gurufocus or b) Market screener or c) Valueline (i don't have an account for this)

*** Annual report / shareholder of berkshire from 60 till 2023 (This is like history book on what buffet and his company was thinking) - You learn history and how to navigate certain market condition. I see this as 3rd edition of intelligent investor grin grin. I revisit when i am free to learn a thing or two.

*** Howard Marks blog - good read for broad concept / insight to the economy. I am aware he's also north america focused. With time studying this folks you start to see similarities but you apply your knowledge of local market conditions to your advantage.

*** Monish Pabrai - Arguably the next in line to charlie munger in terms of approach to investment in North america and emerging market (Turkey to be exact). Same thing, his webinars are broad concepts.

*** Reddit - Value investing subreddit is your friend. Don't get carried away by wallstreetbet subreddit (Not as fun as it was back in 2018)

***Cathie woods ITK (in the know) - This is a monthly review of moetary, fiscal policy and market conditions ( she doesn't teach you valuation like aswath, but you get insight on what wallstreet is not focusing at the moment). She like a major yet underground artist or restaurant you know is bussing but peeps still hate on them type deal for finance.

*** Earn your leisure - mondays and tuesdays .

**Westudy billionaires and The investors Podcast- Gems full everywhere. See it as extracurricular for your financial subconscious. Informatio here build your capacity when analysing companies based on approach successful peeople have used in the past. Pace yourself, it will make sense at some point during the journey of valuation.

Nigerian content

*** Dr AWO podcast - good nigerian local content. @DRAWO put the link of your podcast in your signature so people can check it out. BTW, please ensure to include more channel/avenue for people to check it out. (no be everybody dey use spotify, apple podcast, etc)

*** subscribe to all this financial house newsletter (will suggest create an email account for all financial tid-bits so you can review daily or weekly without missing things. this will reduce overwhelming unread mails if you mix financial things with your regular work life ) for their insight, gives you leverage to be contrarian if you want. e.g coronation, cardinalstone, afriinvest, investone, etc

**** Nairametrics ( extension of NSEMPA ... no be today we know sey even $OTE dey read NSEMPA . madam obi ezekwesili used to check nairaland back in the day but she stopped for some reason.)

VII. If you really want to get super crazy with it Aswath Damodoran ( NYC finance prof) has free course every year on valuation. it's like a semester worth. don't get lost in the sauce. Pace yourself, it will make sense.

VIII. this is too long at this point,if you have any question in particular not addressed , ask.

But what is the free float of Transcorp now.
I have learnt to avoid stock with huge os and huge free float.
If Transcorp free float is around 20%, it would have been selling above #25 by now and fall will never be a free fall as it is doing now.

PE is just one of the things to consider.

Profitability. Earn quality, cash flow, dividend safety, earning growth, management, capital allocation etc

Most of us that recently added or entered transcorp did not do so just on the expectation of a good result but rather on the anticipated corporate action(which we suspect to be unbundling)
Thats why we have been adding more on each low. Hopefully they will do a favourable unbundling exercise like he did with UBA in those days, that gave us ucap, afriprud and one other company like that.

NSE is not encouraging long term investments.
Good stocks spotted at a very cheap price will use 1 month to get to a price expected in two years.
I bought Multiverse for a long term purpose.only to see a stock of #3 at #22 in less than 1 month.
Who will see such a profit in one month and remain long term again?

Same thing with TIP and Japaul, and etc

If you decide to maintain your long term stand, you may loose 50% of your profit kia kia.
The reason why our stocks are volatile is this rapid growth in price.

No wonder some experts are shouting bears now when the bull is suppose to be in charge.

This bull must continue because economic indicators are still pointing to bull not bears.

Imagine those that bought oando at that price, they were thinking that they invested their money wisely. Oando delisting price should not be less than #50 cause the company has not be paying dividends for the past 10 years and no price appreciation of the stock. 10 years ago, your #120 invested in oando at a price of #12 per share would be around #116.5 after today's trading, this is without considering devaluation of your capital. Imagine he used the money to buy 1 can of Amstel malt at a price of #120 per can, the person would have been better of. 1 can of Amstel malt is #400 now. grin grin grin

Nigerian CEO dey learn work when compared with American CEO as per greed.

How can the CEO of a company that has not paid dividends for years consider a pay package of about $56 billion

From an all time high price of over $400 after adjusting for stock split to the current price of about $190 current PE ratio is just 44 down from an all time high PE ratio of over 1350 about 12 years ago. So the market had already priced in about 14 years growth into the stock price. How come

Yet a lot of us are paying a price in 2024 what a stock should be selling for in 2034 considering earning growth for the next 10 years

Don't overpay for growth, 10 years after you might be worse off and the company CEO will still be asking for ridiculous pay package

Disclaimer: biased due to exposire to TSLA . statement below isn't abrasive.

I must say i'm not a fan of Elon musk (capable but overhyped), if the dumb ass had done the dealings transparently without twist arming directors he deserves every stock compensation he got considering it's milestone RSU.

That said, this statement /opinion that 56 bil package is greed is naive and disingenious to say the least, he delivered on all parameters required in the milestones , the share holders are better for it in terms of capital appreciation. Please do better, you are held in reasonable regards to be dishing out things like this.Shalom!
