Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating the controversial Nigeria Air deal

The Nigeria Air deal was sealed by Hadi Sirika, the immediate former minister of aviation, on behalf of the Nigerian government.

On May 26, 2023, a plane belonging to Nigeria Air, the proposed national carrier, landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.

Sirika had told Nigerians two days before the plane touched down in Abuja that an aircraft belonging to Nigeria Air, would arrive in the country on Friday ahead of the commencement of operations.

However, on August 31, 2023, Keyamo announced the suspension of the Nigeria Air. The minister said the projects would be put on hold until further notice.

Keyamo spoke on Wednesday evening when he appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

“First of all, I have said it before and I will still say it. It was not a deal that was good for Nigeria in the long run,” the minister said.

“The whole composition and totality of that deal was merely Ethiopian Air flying the Nigerian flag. It was not a national carrier. Two things. A flag carrier is different from a national carrier.

“So while we were being told that a national carrier was coming, it was not a national carrier, it was a foreign airline trying to fly the Nigerian flag.

“The EFCC is investigating that deal. There is a criminal investigation going on. I have called for the report.”

Keyamo insisted that no local airline would be designated as a national airline, noting that “we will establish a proper national carrier”.

This Air Nigeria saga one of the many movies we see in the Nigeria [/s]nollywood[s]politics section

Billions spent on logo with nothing to show for it. An airplane borrowed from Ethiopian Air and rebranded as Nigerian Air with buhari and co shining teeth and snapping pictures with it.

There after the airplane is returned to where it was borrowed with absolutely no consequence and life goes on while the minister is living large and free somewhere

And up till now, they are still investigating. What is there to investigate? Does this not reinforce the saying that there are some untouchables in Nigeria and govt dey look face of person bf dem go probe

If na poor man pikin, dem go don raid him house for night put am mug shot for Facebook and give am express trial

Of course they're investigating. An investigation that will last over eight years due to its "complexity".

All government officials are corrupt..
The good ones will take little of the money designated for their agency(less than 20%), while the greedy ones will take 90-100% of money allocated to run their agency

Is this not the same people that are asking us to patronise the local industry?

Having a foreign national carrier means that their funds will be repatriated and this will put additional strain on the demand for dollars.

It is obvious that the west are using knowledge of our politicians corruption and where they stack their ill gotten wealth (aka international money laundry) to blackmail them into making stupid deals with them. Because there is no valid reason why our politicians are making such stupids decisions unless they are being blackmailed.

I am certain that France blackmailed our dear presidents into putting his foot in his mouth during the Niger saga.
