Indomie jumps from N8,500 to N18,000; groundnut oil N7,000 to N11,000; bag of Irish potatoes N25,000 to N40,000

A market survey by Peoples Gazette at Mararaba, an Abuja satellite town in Nasarawa State, shows that Indomie, groundnut oil and Irish potatoes prices have increased by over 100 per cent in recent weeks.

Indomie Super pack, a popular noodles, sold for N8,500 earlier in the year, has hit N18, 000, increasing by over 100 per cent. Small pack of Indomie which sold for N5,000 now sells for N11,000.

A five litres of groundnut oil formerly sold for N7,000 now sells for N11,000.

In Jos, where Irish Potatoes is cultivated, a bag of Irish Potatoes which earlier cost N25,000 now sells for N40,000.

Two past market surveys conducted by The Gazette in February showed that prices of food items have increased by over 100 per cent since Mr Tinubu assumed office last year.

In the past weeks, protests over hunger and spiking prices have erupted in Niger, Osun, Ibadan and Lagos states as Nigerians urged the government to ameliorate their sufferings.

Mr Tinubu, in response to public outcry on the rising cost of food driven by skyrocketing inflation in the country, had directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to release about 42,000 metric tonnes of grain, including maize, millet and garri.

He also charged the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, State Security Service and Nigerian police to go after food hoarders.

The Nigeria Customs Service also distributed confiscated food items to Nigerians to ameliorate hunger in the country until a stampede during rice distribution led to the death of six in Lagos and stoppage of the exercise.

However, on Sunday in Abuja, a government owned warehouse was raided and food items looted by residents, while in Suleja, Niger State, Zaria in Kaduna State, trucks carrying food stuffs have need attacked and looted.

APC said ₦216 per Dollar was too much. Therefore, no APC government is good unless Naira goes below 216 per Dollar in the regime.

Scary part is that, 5k can no longer cook a pot of soup. Just a kilo of Titus fish is sold for #5,100 here in my area.

May God help us undecided

I always wonder how minimum wage earners with families manage to get by daily with this economy situation

In my adult life, I have never witnessed this kind of galloping inflation and unfortunately the response of the govt leaves much to be desired

They said we should endure....is tinubu enduring, are his children enduring. What sacrifices is he making...

they tell the masses....soon......how long is soon...bf u know it....its 4 years and they would say u shouldgive me 4 years to finish what they started

...A day that would be good....u know get the signal from the morning

What are the signals that the country is getting better. In 10months dollar moved from 700 to 1500. What would it be in 2027

They say when u know the problem its half solved so what is the problem in implementing the solution to Nigeria's problem

See Arable land everywhere, see rivers to irrigate these farm land but we are still in lack.

Truly, for everything that is not working in Nigeria, some people are benefiting from it

The solution to this is feeding once daily. Feeding once daily has its advantages as it helps reduces obesity and diabetes. Too much consumption of food is detrimental to our health. Let's try to persevere and endure a little longer as President Tinubu is working extremely hard to fix our economy. His renewed hope agenda and track record in Lagos should give us hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Let's support our President and pray God grant him good health as he strives to turn our country into an economic Giant.

:PGo back to Egbo and Ewa, Ekuru, Moinmoin, Alapa, Amala, Eba, Iyan, Ogi

Do away with Indomie, Rice and Spaghetti..

We kuku no dey eat them years back..na civilisation put us here.

Modified:

Loads of mentions because I said civilisation put us here.
My comment is not saying civilisation is bad, it is just to open our eyes to loads of things we have missed along the way.
We have all sold out forefathers arable farm lands to build Estates and Mansions...some to worship centres..for those that can salvage anything...go back to farm!

Substitence farming was our thing in Yoruba land..and I know it's same in almost every party of the country...many house holds can easily grow everything I listed up there for themselves..

If you are into white collar job...empower your extended family members to grow for you...after all, our great grandfathers have farms that cater for their grownup children families in the cities.

It's a very hard time...requires hard time measures.

Unemployment looming. When cost of production is high, price increases, demand falls, quantity produced reduces, C>π, factories reduce number of workers to cut cost. It is getting scarier.

Another opportunity for wailers to wail uncontrollable blaming government alone forgetting that out of greed, people over inflate the prices of this commodities for selfish purpose.
Two days ago, i went to one Hausa man to help me prepare "2" 100g indomine and one egg in "VICTORIAL ISLAND ON ADEMOLA ADETOKUNBO way" (I emphasis the location so that people can know that it is an area where things are expensive) and the hausa man told me it is #1000 for the combination.
Now, i went to see someone in Ajah yesterday and i saw a Calabar woman preparing indomine and i asked her to help me prepare "2" 100g indomine and one egg just like i did the previous day and guess what she told me, she said it is #1400 for the combination. That is #400 than what i paid for in Victoria island just the previous day.
Tell me isn't that GREED from the Calabar woman? I was even thinking there are special extra things that she will add to her own indomine but nothing extra except pepper, onion.
We Nigerians take pride in pointing fingers at the government but we ourselves are thieves in our various businesses and look for every opportunity to reap off others and blame it on government and inflation.

Lament and pass. That's what most Nigerians will do. No one will accept to farm wheat, corn, groundnut or potatoes even now the prices have doubled.
