By tradition the Oba of Benin is the chairman of the Benin Traditional Council. However, two Enigies allegedly wrote to the Edo State Government that it should create another Benin Traditional Council.

The people of the areas that the Enigies oversee wrote to the Oba of Benin to complain about the behaviour of the Enigie. The Oba of Benin summoned the Enigies to his palace to find out what the problem was. The Enigies did not go to the palace, so the Oba of Benin suspended them.

The Enigies then sued the Oba of Benin and the Edo State Government. They say that the Oba has no power to suspend them and only the government can suspend them.

On Wednesday night, Obidients began circulating a rumour that the Edo State Government had sued the Oba and summoned him to court. This forced the Edo State Government to release a statement on Thursday that it has no lawsuit against the Oba and in fact, it is a defendant in the case.

According to Samuel Igbinosa Nomamiukor:

First of all I do not want to believe that you guys see us as unenlightened people that do not understand the intrigues and antics of the possibilities that plays out during litigation.
That someone is named amongs the defendant in a litigation is not necessarily an adversary or that the individual or individuals have no hand in the litigation.
A defendant can be one who is sued for the sole purpose of strengthening the plaintiff’s case.
Secondly, on the opposition you would have done thesame if you were in their shoes.
If your principal realize that the opposition is or are exploiting his mistakes to the detriment of whoever he is trying to project then he should simply retrace his steps , amend and right his wrongs.
On attempts to exonerate your principal:
As someone that have followed the development for about two years now starting from the Enigie accusing the Benin Traditional Council of withholding their salary and writing the State governor requesting for separate Traditional Councils whereas it was the State government that initially withheld the allocation meant for the Benin Traditional hence the Enigie were not been paid.
This was followed up with the claim that the State governor was implementing the 1979 edict by creating Traditional Councils in the seven local government areas of Edo South which is interpreted by some as attempt to reduce the powers of his Majesty and reducing him to the level of clan kings hence the rejection that followed.
Moreover the said edict gave conditions that for such traditional councils to be established it must be headed by a traditional ruler which in the said edict only the title of the Oba of Benin was gazetted as sole traditional ruler in what is today's Edo South, the rest were gazetted as traditional chiefs which is understandable owing to the centralized Benin monarchial custom which does not recognize clan kings hence the Benin Traditional Council which evolved from the Benin Native Authority when it was renamed the Benin Traditional Council by Omo N'Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Akenzua11 in the 1950s have remained the sole Traditional Council.
Also he was seen always fraternizing with the suspended Enigie and recognized these suspended Enigie even when he is aware that these Benin Enigie have been suspended by the Benin Traditional Council the apex body.
When the following Enigie were suspended by the Benin Traditional Council it was the letter or communique by the Edo State Commissioner for Local Government, Community & Chieftaincy Affairs if I am not mistaken in response to the suspension of the Enigie and the right of the Oba of Benin to suspend these Enigie was what gave them the effrontery to sue .
Which I baffled at the audacity of these suspended Enigie knowing that Omo N'Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare11, Oba of Benin is not the first Oba of Benin to suspend erring Enigie even in recent times Oba Akenzua11 and Oba Erediauwa suspended some Enigie infact some Enigie suspended by Oba Erediauwa of blessed memory whose suspension were not lifted before Oba Erediauwa joined his ancestors are still on suspension and still trying to appeal thier suspension with the current Oba of Benin because the Oba of Benin is the one that appoints an Enogie, confirms an Enogie with the insignias including the Erinmwin Idu which are replicated in their domains in Benin.
An Oba of Benin can decide not to give consent to the son of a desceased Enogie to succeed his father.
So how come these Enigie are now challenging that which have always been if not that they are dancing to a tune?
Finally, the reason why I do not take the actions of these suspended Benin Enigie serious is that legally they have no case in accordance to the said 1979 edict that they keep misquoting and traditionally in accordance to the Benin custom on Enigie.

Benin again..

Why is benin(kingdom) the most uncertain tribe in the country today; with no substantial evidence of where they came from and who there predecessors or descendants are.

Today, ask the benin people who there descendants are:

(The 1st day) They will claim their descendants are the yorubas.

(Day 2) They will say it's the Ijaws

(Day 3) They will say it's the Igbos

(Day 4) They will say it's the Ikwerres

(Day 5) They will tell you is the Isokos

(Day 6) They will say its the urhobos (after the migration) - Everytime they will tell you that is either they migrated to that place or that they conquered through war.. People with barely 4 local govt in Edo state, is it not funny?..

Presently, they're raising unequivocal issues and doubts among other confused tribe that are willing to dive into their confusion.

Benin people are really confused who they are, where they came from and who were their good or bad neighbours.

Today they claim fathering Yoruba, tomorrow Igalla or Ijaw, next Igbo, Ikwerre or Opobo or Urhobos. They seem to be hopeless in determining who they are.

(And they claimed they once had a kingdom, hmmm).

How can you be a father to communities that are one hundred percent more than you in population, with highly sophisticated different languages, culture, tradition and customs? See the sizes of Yoruba - Benin, Igbo - Benin, Igalla - Benin. It is that of a Squirrel to an Elephant, and you want a sage to believe that the squirrel is the father and founder of the Elephant. So where is the rationale, the similarity, the closeness, etc.

Their various concocted historical tales are like many herbs in a cauldron giving vane remedy to any sickness, such a tragedy.

I'm a proud Igbo from Obio akpor.

Our fathers never told us we were from bini nor hausa nor yoruba, na their business sha.. All their jokes is on them grin

No, you are not proud. undecided You are insecure and full of inferiority complex. One who is truly secure in their identity has no need to declare to the world that he is proud of who he is. Did anyone ask you? Then you are only answering the voice of insecurity that lies within your own mind.

The misunderstanding most of you are having is that, you think this is just happening now. My dear this has been going on for quite some time. Go do your research. The Governor paid all the enogies and told them to secede from the authority of the Benin Traditional council. Then he proposed a law to create a traditional council in every local government in only edo south so as to diminish the powers of the Oba of benin who has always been the only Traditional ruler of edo south and with only one Traditional Council call the benin Traditional Council or BTC... he did all this because the law made by president buhari that all artefacts should be given to the Traditional rulers of the places they were looted from. Now Tell me. When you Grant this rogue enogies autonomy like they had earlier been agitating for before most of them came back begging the oba for forgiveness. Try it and see if they and the Governor won't come after the artefacts saying other traditional councils wants their own share of the artefacts. If the root cause is not about artefacts, then why is the Governor insisting on building a museum instead of the royal museum he ones agreed to and also budgeted 2 billion naira for. My dear am not telling anyone to believe me, simply take your phone and search for everything I said on Google or YouTube and you will see video evidence from media houses and documents and government plans concerning all of this ok

There is a great sense in what you wrote, Bini people who is just 4 Local government will be claiming superiority over Yoruba with huge population and present in other countries like Benin Republic Cotonou, Togo , Brazil etc despite that some of them bear ancient Yoruba name like Balogun and some of their words are similar to Yorubas words, even Bini traditional ruler is also using the word for a king in Yoruba land as title.
A guy with surname Balogun from Benin in my place of work will claim he is not Yoruba but bearing strong Yoruba name, ask him the meaning of his name, he will just be saying nonsense , if you don't want to associate with Yoruba, why not change your name.
He even speaks Yoruba fluently because he grew up in Ilorin
Some of Bini people are just proud and that is why they appear confused as they want to twist stories to boost their ego.
The current Oba of Benin said on the day of coronation that Bini people especially the monarchs are descendants of oduduwa and oranmiyan, the video of the statement is on YouTube

Your analogy is wrong. It is not by size

Look at the size of the UK ,then look at the size of all the other countries around the world colonized by them Nigeria, India, US, Australia etc even the population ratio too. So forget size the ancient Benin Kingdom had a superior civilizationgrin

let me lecture you a bit on all your claims 1. The bini speaking people of Edo state occupy a total local govt of 7 out of 18 which is almost twice the local govt area the ooni of ife rules over in osun state. 2 the claim of the oba saying his ancestors came from ile ife, one thing you need to know is that a bini prince once ruled over ile ife, he is a descendant of a bini prince who ruled ile ife, in ancient times ile ife didn't have a line of succession there were coups and counter coups even a servant named laguda once ruled over ile ife, even till this present day ile ife does not have a direct line of succession. 3 the mistake you folks always make by justifying your ignorance by comparing bini ethnic group with the Yoruba, is obviously the source of your ignorance, how many Yorubas are from ile- ife? I doubt it makes up 10 percent of your entire population. In ancient times there was nothing life the Yoruba even in this day there is nothing like the yoruba kingdom, you are either an from ile ife kingdom, oyo kingdom, Ogbomosho or other kingdoms, we never claim we developed or had interactions with these other kingdoms the only kingdom history teaches us we had interactions with was the ile-ife kingdom of which in ancient times the bini Kingdom was bigger and more civilized that ile -ife even till today the bini kingdom is still larger than ile-ife so why make it a Yoruba thing when the Yoruba identity came during colonial rule, if not for colonialism, don't you know that an ile-ife might be going to war with Ogbomosho or oyo. The ancient, ile ife didn't even have a standard monarchy or line of succession how then do you even believe that such a people who could barely organize themselves nowgave bini a kingdom when we already had a civilization and a monarchy.

Can you know your history than the current Oba of Benin who is from royal family that said it in a video that is still available on YouTube that he is a descendant of oduduwa and oranmiyan.
It's like you have not even travelled out of your locality to know how big Yoruba land is, that is why you think big about your small Bini land.
Meanwhile, the guy named Balogun in my place of work told me he is from Bini , and l have seen many from Benin that bear Yoruba names.
Even Yoruba extends to itshekri in Delta, Yoruba is not your Bini mate because Bini migrated from Yoruba.
Argue with Oba of Benin that said it on video on YouTube
