I think maggi is the best seasoning. . .
Re: What Is The Best Seasoning For Cooking Generally? by armyofone(m): 8:11pm On May 04, 2013
true. also, you can't add yaji in soup/stew/fried rice/ogbono/egusi/okra/efo riro/goose goose etc

yaji can only be use in eating suya, kose, zogole salad, massa.

I was surprised to know that oyinbo too use chicken bouillon/knorr in some of their food shocked
such global epidemic undecided

Come to think of it my grandma neva used seasoning cubes in her soup until she passed away in '06. N we dared not use them when we prepared her meals ... she will know, no mata how small.
She used instead Ogiri and lots of crayfish, n her soups were the tastiest ever.
U could try those.

My people die because of lack of knowledge don't you know msg is sweet misery @ Op I use sea salt and in the grocery stores they have tons of seasonings without msg I don't know about 9ja o[the quote author=Acidosis]brother you had better not starve yourself cos of allergy and all that..

Moderate Maggi cubes and salt will not kill you. Go and ask all the vegetarians, how many of them lived beyond 90years?
What will kill a man will surely kill a man.

Not even the entire doctors in the world put together can stop me from eating fried frice garnished with curry & maggi seasoned chicken. I'll eat and then lick my fingers. Thats how much I love food.

If you run away from maggi because you sneeze, can you also run away from dust?[/quote]

Frendys:
In view of the danger associated with using Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) as a food seasoning; coupled with the fact that most available seasoning agents such as Vedan, Maggi, Knorr, Doyin, etc. contain MSG. What alternative seasoning agents should I recommend to my lady?

I noticed that I sneeze and whiz a lot after eating cooked food that have been seasoned with Maggi, etc.
Consequently I have banned these seasonings in my kitchen but what better alternative do I have? Food nutritionists and health conscious individuals should please offer suggestion/solution.

I hate eating outdoor because of this concern.

Many thanks!
Garlic, Ginger, nutmeg, crayfish, ogili. Scent leaf is also very good.

My grand mum is still alive, and she has been eating maggi & salt before independence.. Shes old but still bouncing... agile and mobile.. She'll clock 100 in few years, and shes seen her great grand children..

Kudos to maggi...

people smoke cigarettes and don't die immediately there's something called voluntary suicide so because they aren't dead don't mean it won't kill them

mymz: My Creator says I shouldn't eat crustaceans because it sweetens food doesn't make it good.. Stolen bread are sweet says king Solomon
A lot of people may not know this, but Crayfish is actually a very worthy substitute for magi - has a lot of health benefits too.
Also, try Ogiri (hate the smell tho) depending on the food i.e Oha, Onugbo and even Ogbono - its very good for the eyes
Efurun is also quite good but does cause wheezing when sniffed in its raw state (even tho it does not contain MSG). Plus, I'm sure the wheezing property will be greatly reduced after its been used in cooking.
others are; white pepper, black pepper, ginger, thyme, garlic and some coriander won't hurt i guess.

Bon apetit smiley

Fancier: Secret seasoning without Maggi are
1. Garlic (Powder or wet paste)
2. Ginger (Powder or wet paste)
3. Locust bean i.e Iru in Yoruba (grounded or seeds)

Combination of two or three of this seasons, gives your food a taste you wouldn't resist. As for the garlic you can use little quantity. This is tested and approve by folks around me, you can try it also and come back to comment your result.

This combinations also have lots of health benefit which can help your family also...

Good-luck
You re right there, Iru or Dawdaw as is call northen part of Naij is very gud seasoning another gud seasoning is crayfish be it shrimps or prawns there are very good alternative. But wait a second;.... I'just can't imaginig my kitchen without seasoning and spicese. Garlic,Ginger and Onion are my best spicese I' love them fresh. Abeg my brother Bone all these researcher most of them are not true is just to make name and money, quite a number of these seasoning are very safe for consumption.

Well i see a lot of posters also recommend crayfish which i feel its not a bad idea, but from research too, its is said that cray fish are not so good for some certain blood group especially the B blood group. Its about eating right for your type. As for onion, scent leave they are also good. We still have some other spice like Turmeric, coriander, parsley and so on. My advice is never purchase already processed or mixed spice, you really can not tell what else has been added to them.

You might be right. I used to have a neighbour whose son was ashthmatic. His case was quite bad. Somehow the parents discovered that cooking with seasoning cubes usually triggered his attacks hence began to substitute seasoning cubes with crayfish and salt when cooking. That's about a good substitute. Why not try it out? Of course with a moderate helping of pepper. I almost forgot, some people are allergic to crayfish, if you fall into that category, I'm afraid you'll have to settle for grounded dry fish or nothing at all.

grin Thank you all for your individual contributions.

Iru or locust bean and ogiri are clearly not for me because I have always hated those seasonings in food from my childhood. I don't even taste any food that contain these.

I will stick to Ginger, Garlic and salt - a pinch of it. No Maggi, Royco, Vedan, Ajinomoto, etc

All of you are great indeed: Nairaland
