Okay, lets start from the beginning.
My name is Nwaka and this is the story that led to the establishment of 5Star Global.

I graduated in 2006 and went for my NYSC in 2007 to round up in 2008. I served in Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri (the state owned radio and television station). When i was done, i searched for a job and got employed in 2009 in an NGO (basically a contractor with Chevron and other multinationals). I worked as an Administrative officer (later turned manager) and i really learnt alot of work and office related stuff. As we know NGOs are great when you own them but they are the greatest when they are international organizations (with offices in other nations). Lol....you understand what am talk about...the pay nor reach at all...hahaha.

So i quit in May 2012 taking the biggest risk of my life...well, i guess it's going to be rewarding in Jesus name...Amen! So, the next point of call was to learn a trade or a handiwork so i can build a business around it. My people, it was not easy. I learnt website development and the hardest part was getting jobs...It was hell. No income, no money, nothing. I did jobs almost for free but i was determined. Breakthrough came when my "free" jobs paid off as i got a call one morning from someone that they have chosen me to build a website for their boss, and that was how i built the campaign website of Barr Olusola Oke who contested for the governorship seat in 2012 in Ondo State representing PDP. Though he lost the election, but i made some bucks grin

I did lots of websites to be precise and made some money but business became slow, i tell you. Two years of street struggle and hustle, yet things are slow. So, instead of quitting i decided to go to the next level. I have people watching me and saying "He quit his job, lets see where he will land", and i need to prove them wrong.

April this year 2014 made it two years of street hustle and how i think am ready to take it to the next level. So i took a break and planned the next step of action. June, i registered my business with CAC, got an office and procured office furniture and equipment. Now i want to become a contractor BUT i did not get fixated in a particular niche..Where ever the contract is gonna come from, am good to go..lol. Infact, the slogan of my company is "....a global solutions provider".

Sorry for not being explicit, below is a quote from my earlier post;

Business was slow, but i also said i made some money. I had a dream and i had targets, i was making money BUT not the kind of money i wanted. I handled jobs of less than N100,000 alot and after "running costs" and other expenses i will be left with little for savings. I wanted jobs of 6 figures so i figured the only way to get into that level was to upgrade the way i operate, hence the office, CAC registration and all. But i also decided to do other stuff in addition to website development. By the way, the office is still locked cos for now i cant be there daily and also i cant really afford to retain employees. I am trying to land my first contract before i recruit...lol

what is keeping you away from your office, you have something else doing or marketing?

blink182: what is keeping you away from your office, you have something else doing or marketing?

Yeah, i have to go out there to do the marketing myself and i still need to raise some more funds because the office is big, so i kinda demarcated it. One part for office and the other as a mini warehouse. Now i need funds to stock the warehouse because i want the office to be self sustaining. Which means when there are no contracts, running costs and salaries for staff wont be too much of an issue. Although, am still contemplating what to stock it with but i think the decision will be made as soon as funds arrive.

Now am trying to raise funds the only way i know how to...submitting website design proposals. And am doing some follow ups on some prospective clients, one from nairaland (one of those popular importer guys..lol) and two others that were referred to me by my past clients. I am really spending alot on phone calls right now undecided

New Updates: Okay i developed a new system on how to use LinkedIn website effectively to increase my business productivity and i have been using it for the past 2 weeks and yeah, there are results.

I got some new leads on different business packages and I have been doing followups, some are promising while some are disappointing.

1. I got into a discussion with a training school in Canada and there was an agreement that my new start-up should become their sole agent in Nigeria, infact the school director spoke to me severally on phone and specifically requested that i cover other countries in West Africa. My company is to help recruit and process admission for new students who wants to undergo the training program (2 months) after which they get a certificate which can help in their job search in Canada (the school will also help in the Job Assist Program). Two days ago, the contract papers finally came via email......wow, i was happy oh!!...my first contract document in just one month of establishment. I have gone through the document sha but am not yet impressed so i think i will call the school director for a re-negotiation. Funny enough, through LinkedIn also, i have gotten some smaller agencies across some African countries who are ready to work with me on this. So if i start this, i should be pulling over 20 new applicants monthly, especially since the program is kinda cheap (about 2,500 Canadian dollars).

2. I have also developed a new lead with a company here in Nigeria that specialize in the construction of large prefabricated structures, pharmaceutical clean rooms, production factories, airport terminals/hangers, portacabins for site offices, labour camps and commercial housing developments, poultry hatcheries, cold rooms, abattoirs, telecom base shelters and warehouse structures. My Start-up is to become an agent with them. More like corporate marketers (pheeeew), my job is to be in charge of Delta and PortHarcourt regions and i am to seek out new opportunities with businesses and oil companies (which aint difficult for me sha). I got a call from the MD on Monday that they are working on a new contract document with my Start-up which will include some benefits like getting a huge % of jobs i pull for them, getting a retainership payment monthly (whether there are jobs or not), and also when the document is ready i will be invited to Lagos to meet with the company executives and have a tour viewing their products and plant. This na executive invitation oh cos i will be given flight tickets and all expense paid trip. grin

3. A friend of mine runs a Scrap company and he told me if i can get a company that will ask him to come clear up their yard (all the scrap stuff) then i will get a % from the deal. Trust me, i activated my LinkedIn stuff and hustled a construction company with their yard based in Onitsha and the project manager agreed and said we should come and pack up all the junk in their yard including rollers, cement mixers, two 16 ft giant generators, etc. Now, my guy dey disappoint me. He is very busy this period and nor wan create time make we go Onitsha and i was told that if we dont come, they will give them to other peeps. May God help me here oh.

4. I went to Asaba to hook up with a friend who works for CCC Construction company three weeks ago to discuss the possibility of getting a small contract to supply materials and other stuff, he introduced me to a Mr Hassan the onyibo in charge of contracts and the man agreed to raise an LPO for me, under one condition. That i should bring a recommendation letter from a top government official (na that one i dey beg for now, as i nor get uncle or aunty for high places). This is what is delaying me now from getting an LPO from the company.

Yesterday i didnt do anything sha, just made calls and replied mails. I was tired so i took yesterday off. But today i have an appointment with someone who works for Planet Project Nig Ltd and for those of you in warri who dont know, this is the company in charge of the new BRT lane construction, Jakpa Junction and in the next one or two weeks they will begin working on the reconstruction of Airport Junction. Me dey find supply contract with them oh....so off i go to lobby.

Will update you guys when i return.

Been away for a while, i hope my diary guides, teaches, motivates or inspires someone out there.

I have finally secured a small website development job, and will get busy in a few days. Along the way i did some reading (i always read) especially some very inspiring, technical and tutorial-based articles written by the world's top CEOs, Entrepreneur and Business Owners in LinkedIn. Over there, they are called "Influencers" and yes, if you want to feed from the very best then move over to LinkedIn and follow these topnotch influencers. Back to base.....

I came across an article that talks about start-ups and learnt a bitter truth and a very important lesson. If you are starting up as a contractor seeking engaging contracts from multinationals, governments and other bigger organization, in order for you not to dry out or get discouraged (and trust me, you get discouraged all the time), its been advised to build your own product or custom service which is not only applicable to corporate organizations but to the general public. Now, while you are out there searching for contracts, you are on the other hand pushing your unique product into the market. Thank God for Social Media, now you dont really have to pay marketing firms outrageous fees. You can do it yourself. So it's either you get the contracts or your product/ unique service is bought by all and sundry. Either way, you stay afloat. The reason is because the world has changed...you have to cut through tons of bureaucracy and politics to be awarded a contract especially if you are a start-up.

Nice tip...will definitely look into it. cool

So you never get website, yet you they land agency for Canadian school.
To every hustler and skeptical entrepreneur; you can see that everything is possible to he that beliefs.
@Ops, You are obviously an Intelligent Nigerian. God will certainly reward your Labour. My little advice is stay focused and keep overheads real low.
Quitting your job will never be a mistake until you make it so. I did same 4 years ago, and am yet to attain my monthly income level as at when I was on a paid job. But I know it is better for me to wait 5years to make a break as an Entrepreneur than to wait 1yr and make a break as an Employee.
God bless you man.

Thanks for your words. The truth is that you can NEVER make a break as an employee in one or five years. But as an entrepreneur, if you are persistent and consistent you can make a break in less than 5 years.

Hi folks, i know i have not giving updates for a while....it's because i have been busy.

I have been packaging a new project and it's an idea born of sheer curiosity. I asked alot of questions and did alot of research and i discovered some funny sh*t.
Now, the lessons i have learned in my life (i dont know about you) is that as an entrepreneur, you pick several niches that can fetch you income. So you really dont have to be lazy....ask questions, do feasibility studies and pick a good income generating niche for yourself. Do bother if people are going to scorn you or laugh at you, just get busy! Some weeks ago, i was discussing with my sister that's based in PH and she told me about a common problem they face in Port Harcourt (young nursing mothers) especially when they have to cater for the kids, keep the home in order and still do their normal hustle. Its nerve wrecking! She told me, if only there is a way that problem can be addressed. And guess what the problem is??

Nannies and House Helps!!! undecided

I decided to leverage on that and from my little feasibility study, its a niche that promises to be a money earner. I have been working around it and the project is in its beta stage. I have recruited a "Projects Coordinator" to anchor this project and she is located in Akwa Ibom. It's called the ManChambers Project. I am beginning to receive orders....and i never fully launch am. grin

Please feel free to go through it at www.manchambers.com

PS: If you know anyone who might be interested in working as a live-in nanny or house help, driver, cook and office assistant, you can ask the person to fill the application form in the website. If the person is not computer inclined, then you can do it for the person. That neighbor or relative of yours in the village might really be happy to get the job. And trust me, i am negotiating good salary offers from the clients. And just so you know, clients am gonna be dealing with are big shots who can afford to pay good salary.

Yes i dont sleep. E nor easy sha.

It's a CELTA teacher training and a University of Cambridge accredited program. You get certified to get a job as an English teacher to schools, language institutions and private individuals. I have just been given a directory of jobs, it's gonna make you go "wow". Requests made daily for peeps with the CELTA certificate to start working immediately. But these job offers comes from different countries (Japan, China, Spain, Saudi Arabia, etc) and the salary is quite encouraging...

for example, i got this offer yesterday 1st of August;
Language Training Center (LTC):
LTC is a language school, established in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The main business idea of LTC is to organize high quality English courses provided ONLY by native speakers for all students. LTC offers customer oriented business English courses for national companies, IELTS courses for students that are willing to study abroad and General and Intensive English courses for school children.
In addition, LTC has strong relationships with Herriot Watt university so as to provide preparation courses for those students who would like to get ready for partner university programmes.
Primary objective of the position:
Teacher will join our team of 5 foreign teachers and will be responsible for the provision of English language courses for all categories of our customers (mainly they are high school students). As well, teacher will be responsible for the testing of their students and further marking the tests. Teacher will be frequently involved in the analysis of courses LTC provides and will be welcome for their feedbacks.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Gender: Female/Male
Age: from 23-40
MUST BE A NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER
Education and Qualifications:
-Completed University degree (BA or MSc degree, relevant or irrelevant to teaching) is a must
-TEFL/TESOL or CELTA certificate is a must

-Free tickets to Kazakhstan and back to your country as the contract is finished
-Free of charge, single accommodation
-Work permission and work visa will be arranged for you by our company
Start date: the Mid of September 2014
Please send your CV with a recent photo to.........
The salary is approximately $2,000 (roughly about N320,000 plus benefits). I get these offers daily because of my special affiliation. I know some of you will ask "why you nor go do the training?"...trust me i love good things and as i speak to you i have my admission letter with me BUT i can't afford to go for it. I have no family support or parent's support unlike some of you. I make daily bread from my business(es) but its hard to come by bulk funds to execute something like this. I have a very good rapport with the school staff and the school director and when they saw i couldnt make it, i was offered the opportunity of working with them as a licensed agent, hence my contract with them. If i have bulk money i may decided to go ahead but that's a decision for later cos for now i have a company to build.

So my brother, if 9ja is not favorable it aint bad to explore other opportunities oh. Doing the training in Canada comes with alot of prestige cos they offer the highest certification and also going through me as your agent guarantees you your admission grin
The start dates left this year are Sept 16, 2014 (cannot be met cos no enough time to acquire visa) Oct 13, 2014 and Nov 17, 2014. There is a full time intensive training (4 weeks) and part-time training program (11 weeks). 2015 academic calender has not yet been scheduled.

The basic requirement is that you must have a degree (any degree), plus you must be from an English Speaking country (great advantage over others) and you must have some interest in teaching. wink

The basic requirement is that you must have a degree (any degree), plus you must be from an English Speaking country (great advantage over others) and you must have some interest in teaching. wink

good one bro.. I love possibility thinkers like you.. May God see u through..

Hi folks...

Today was a rough day for me, been busy.

Earlier on i talked about partnering with a construction company located in Lagos that specializes in the construction of large prefabricated structures, pharmaceutical clean rooms, production factories, airport terminals/hangers, portacabins for site offices, labour camps and commercial housing developments, poultry hatcheries, cold rooms, abattoirs, telecom base shelters and warehouse structures. Over the weekend i got a call from my contact (whom i got though God and Google) that he is no longer in charge of the process, saying that the present person in charge will get across to me on Monday (today). Well, true to his word, i received an invite asking me to be in their office by 12noon on Wednesday which is two days time. This means that i am supposed to be on my way to Lagos on Tuesday. When i received the invite, i called the guy and reminded him of the earlier plans made by his other colleague to take care of my travel expenses and logistics. He said he is now in charge and according to the last meeting held in their office, the issue of them taking responsibility for my travel expenses has been annulled.

This is a big blow for me because i didn't make financial plans to embark on a journey. Travel costs, hotel accommodation, etc has no budget from my end. So, it's really a big disappointment. I guess i have to send them a mail stating my inability to make the trip because of lack of proper communication from their end. The whole arrangement has been re-visited and re-arranged without keeping me abreast.

The good news for today is that i signed the contract document and sent to the Canadian School Director for the training program i also talked about earlier. Details can be found in my website (including the free application form). While i was busy today, i made a checklist of documentation i should start working on getting as soon as funds touches my hands. They are;

- Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) work permit
- Registration with Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development
- NIPEX registration
- Insurance schemes (Goods In Transit and Workmen Compensation)
