Thanks ever so for your valid questions and concern shown.

TeHN is currently made up of 8 individuals (All Nairalanders) who support our work through donations and voluntary self-service. The group was set up to support the less privileged in our nation via various fund campaigns for targeted and specific verified projects.

We do not gain monetarily from donations received. Our only gain in the way of seeing joy on the faces of people we help and being able to alleviate people from poverty is usually realized if and when we are able to successfully deliver all agreed deliverable.

All money received are announced on the thread and aggregated along throughout the campaign process.
All expenditures are usually published on the specific threads as of when needed
Any money left over from specific projects are simply rolled over to the next project.
We keep a spreadsheet of all donations received to date accompanied with project expenses

Regards
Thanks for replying me but there is nothing meticulous about that account.

I can rightly term it the things I need to know, tell me the things you think I shouldn't know.

I have same sentiments as you do but I don't think it should stop peeps from contributing if they want to. Contribute but the organisers should do an audit of the Charity's funds to the last naira and make it public.
same thought here.

Let me try and make this clear.

Feelers from yesterday demonstrates to me that the publicity given this thread is not needed because from my view, it is meant, strictly for 'members of TeHN' and their friends. The opinions and views of outsiders matters very little.

It is important to make statements backed with facts
As is custom with TEHN programs, a suggestion thread with a theme is posted three months to the end of year so as to solicit for ideas
Last year, the theme was on Children

Eventually, three places around the country were chosen and pictures were put on the Christmas thread for verification
Nairalanders who are not in the committee supported that outreach

Allegations of nepotism have to be supported by facts

That is not saying the work done by TeHN is not real. Far from it! I believe firmly that real work is done and people's lives are being affected by the generous contributions of nairalanders and the sacrifice put in by members of TeHN.

However, the publicity would have made sense if it was done purely for the fund raiser because as it seems that is the only contribution outsiders are welcome to make.

Someone said members of TeHN should account for the donations given so far for the 3 years ended, before he can contribute further. As much as I do not agree with him totally but this does not nullify his concern. Matter of factly, his concern is very valid.

Given an account of previous fund raisers goes beyond just showing receipts and pictures. These source documents are necessary and I consider them fantastic but proper accounting does not start and end there.

Can you suggest additional means of getting assurance beyond receipts and pictures

Anyways, all that is me 'knacking my teeth' again. When it is time for the fund raiser proper, let us know.

Your support as well as your suggestions will be useful

[b]Who is a TeHN member for starters?! I had no idea this was a club with membership and all that formality..

Last time I checked, this was an initiative strated by a few good hearted Nairalanders backed by the financial, material and personal support of Nairalands general public both home and abroad.

The Modus Operandi has always been;

1. Identify a cause (in the case of individual projects like the case of the kid who needed help with his tuition)..

2. Send reputable Nairalanders to verify and bring us first hand account of the true state of things. If its agreed upon, it becomes a live project.

3. Make a decision on if or how to progress with the cause if at all..

4. Start a fund rasing towards the cause with EVERY CENT contributed listed here in the currency its recieved be it Naira, U.S Dollars or British Pounds Sterling.

5. Form a team that would manage the projectand bring back updates on progress made and hurdles faced. Almost always backed with pictures and evidence of how monies have been spent.

6. Close out report..

I have never once had any reason to doubt the intentions of the team as if anyone asks for how much money is left in the networks purse and its compared against monies spent on the project it can be easily harmonised.

I have never met anybody that forms a part of this network before apart from to drop off an item for the last years flight and I have only ever been contected by phone once to be a part of the team that was going to manage one the the causes (which I couldnt as I was not even in the same region as the project).

All this back and forth on absolutely nothing is very distracting. Members only this, friends and family that.. angry If their is an actual misappropiation spotted like: You feel the price of purcahses were inflated or the amount spent versus the balance does not tally up from the published spreadsheets, then point it out rather than making broad based ungrounded speculations. angry

If you feel uncomfortable being a part of the project, you reserve the right to abstain.. But making such baseless accusations and speculations would only be counter-productive to the general cause of this project.

Names of homes specifically set up to care for the elderly

Most if not all Nigerians who can afford to put their aged ones in homes do NOT live below the poverty level.

I think we should pick the option of looking around us and finding one aged who is really in need of a breathe of fresh air.
Like someone mentioned, the north as it is today need a lot of help too. We can also look at helping a family or two up north.

[b]The Home for the elderly in Nigeria are for those elderly folks who have nobody in the world who cares about them..

They are loners who live out their lives alone..

Here are some pictures from the visit of miss Rivers to one of such homes in Rivers State

These elderly fall into a group of Nigerians that are never accounted for in our National planning. These homes are charity homes (unlike some abroad that are like hotels for elderly folks funded by their loved ones).. Another group are homes for lepers as well as home for special needs kids.

This is new knowledge. I have always been of the opinion that theses homes are privately owned and not on charity.

The leper colony you mentioned I know of two, one in Uzuakoli- Abia state and one in Oji- Enugu state. Those colonies get funding from both national and international purses.
