As at my last count, there have been well over 50 MLM or network marketing companies in Nigeria. Many have gone completely obsolete while many are barely just there.

Chances are many will still come and go.

I do have a beef with MLM companies, not because of anything but because they have become permanent vehicles to siphon people of their little hard earned cash.

I’m sure a couple of us here have tried to get rich with some of these network marketing companies. There is always that impression that this is going to be the "wave of the future", a business model that is gaining momentum, growing in acceptance and legitimacy and, as its promoters claim, will eventually replace most other forms of marketing and sales.

The impression is further sealed as we see some people who claim to have gotten cars and would be travelling the nations all because they belonged to the MLM Company.

Many people seeing that now go as far as registering their brothers, sisters, children, spouses, and friends and so on. Working hard to get their own cars, they eventually get disappointed as they realize that people are not joining anymore

Here are 4 Reasons MLM Companies Don’t Work on the Long Run

1.The Products and Services are expensivemlm2

People don’t seem to see this. However, it’s true that these network marketing companies build into the products the so called commission they will pay you. This makes the prices of the products out of the proper rate.

How many times have you bought a sachet of tea, like lipton, something you should buy less than N20, you ended up buying it N100 or more?

2. The Products Do Not Add Value in the Long Run

Most times the products involved in these MLM companies that promise heaven just don’t live up to it.

Some years ago, my mother got sick. I sent her money to go to the hospital but she went for Tianshi products and lied to me she had started treatment.

The so called Tianshi supplements didn’t work. It was at the point of death that my Mum opened up to me and we had to rush her to a teaching hospital. We ended up spending over half a million naira to save her life.

These vitamins and so called natural teas never replace the place of proper checkup and treatment when someone is sick. The vast testimonials you see in the trainings are hand picked cases that the details are not often known.

3. MLM Strains Relationships

Just introduce 5 people and let the 5 people introduce 5 and bam, you are on your way to Bahamas, right?people-linked

Only if that was easy.

Building a network is not easy especially if the players are required to pay to be in the network.

4. Favors only the Early Entrants

This is why MLM becomes a pyramid scheme at the end of the day. The profit made from the product sales are not enough to make up for the compensations in the system.

To really make it, you have to recruit people. And those people have to recruit people. So the late joiners are left as the brunt bearers.

Final Thoughts

As should be obvious from this article, these are my opinions only. I am only familiar with a few MLM opportunities, and I happily admit that I did not get the joining level.

I am very open-minded, and I’m sure many people have good experiences with MLM.

That said, if you are involved in MLM or are presented with an opportunity please consider my points above, try to cut past all the hype that is likely to be associated with the presented opportunity, and use your own mind to decide the value of the opportunity.

Read my post carefully I said I have been in the industry for 14 years and almost quit! I now mentioned why I joined another one about 90 DAYS AGO not 14 years ago! I now believe more in educating people rather than just recruiting people to join d so called newest, hottest opportunities around. Most people do more than 3 mlm withing 3 years because they want to join early. You can never succeed that way.

MLM (multi level marketing) are purely well thought out scam schemes.

ANYONE ANYWHERE and bottle any solution, just mixing water with some leaf extracts and coloring and claim it has medicinal properties.

The good ones actually use good ingredients for their concoction, meaning it wont be harmful to the user, but at the same time it is not as potent as the claim on the labels.

These concoctions are prized very high, eg a bottle of aloe drink could be prized between 2k and 10k on average. Whereas it's real value is just 200 naira.

This is purely psychology, you think what you are buying or marketing is of high quality because it is expensive.

Sometimes people actually feel these supplements and concoctions are working, this is nothing but Placebo effect. You feel they are working because u believe they are potent and your body responds to this believe to make u feel better.

This schemes are making some people ridiculously RICH whiles some JOBLESS NIGERIANS are running around the office trying to sell the worthless (but well branded) crap to their colleagues.

MLM is not a scam.It is a legitimate way of earning income at the same time having time and money freedom. The problem? Most people dont treat it like a PROPER business that it is. Do you know that even spare parts dealers and patent medicine sellers have to go through tutelage/ training before they can be successful? Another problem is that Massive numbers of Nigerians want the money without working hard. They are also not focused. They do one mlm business for a few months to a couple of years without 1. learning about the business, 2, taking it seriously and REALLY DOING THE BIZ, 3 being consistent 4. Using the products themselves.5 regularly attending the trainings that are needed to empower them with knowledge and skills. When another new network comes to town they gullibly follow and start the same cycle of mediocre activity and they expect exceptional income not realising that its in EVERY network that you have to PUSH to be sucessful!!! No one evry climbed mount Everest by strolling around!!!
I have been a network in Nigeria for 4 years and although Im looking forward to greater incomes soon, I have CONSISTENTLY 95% of the time earned 6 figure incomes every month from a few months into the business - more than some people earn that clock into some jobs 8 -5pm daily through rain and shine along with insults from their bossess etc.
The products in MY network are however NOT supplements. They are everyday use products that have similar quality but lower prices than their equivalents that are not made by this company.

If you have time and you want to do something dignifying that is worthwhile, do not go for MLM
Any MLM that thrives on recruitment of downlines and pays commissions for recruiting downlines is a scam waiting to collapse

I feel sorry when I hear young unemployed youth begging for cash or spending their last card to 'enrol' in these MLM schemes.I know a girl who's given away over 300k to various MLMs but her bank account is still empty.

Stop attending useless seminars and parting with the last naira in your pocket. At the very worst create your OWN MLM, its a lot better to start at the top than be at the bottom ranks.

One smart guy has started his own MLM here disguised as a short code SMS service. NLers are rushing in, as usual.

When MLMs saturate their countries of origin (Europe, America) they turn to so called 'emerging markets' in Africa. Some companies like Herbalife have been criticised for taken money from people who live on $2 or less a day.

most of these MLMs sell you a dream... your chances of getting to their so called promise land or "dream" land is like 0.01%

NO, they don't work... they sell you hopes and dreams that you would not achieve... you are better of starting a proper business where you sell products (goods or/and services) to people or businesses (organizations, institutions, churches, companies etc...) - I am talking from experience - start your own business - don't follow those dream sellers or dream weavers!

Here is my take on mlm.

I won't say it is scam or not but one thing I believe about this mlm of a thing is that you are putting yourself at the mercy of those "oga at the top". They might wake up one morning and decide to fold up the business. What then happens to you?

If you are making anything close to 200k monthly on mlm then this is my advice to you: why not create your own business system where you will be in total control? I bet you, if you can make up to 200k from mlm, with half of the effort, you will be making a killing from your own business.

I mean I don't believe in building another man's wealth just because I earn commissions, I'll rather use the efforts for my own business and get all the profits to myself. Just my 1 cent

Mlm is a scam but warren buffet, bill gates, Donald trump are into it. Richest men in the world. Please I beeeeeeeeg you, don't rely on a bad experience. Its not forever than dupped you, you were not taught right. Please, use the internet, do some research. If your friend did year u wrong, stole your money etc, report him to forever. You should know that I know every single member of team from where the money comes and they are happy and working and earning. Be honest! Its your friend that wronged you not forever or mlm. Am I right? I also had several bad experiences before joining this one. I had to understand that because the company failed me then it didn't mean mlm didn't work. I just needed to find a good one. This is years after I left my last. We even have people who have failed in forever before. For you to b aware, new dustributors earn just 5% of what people register with . the highest is 18% so how much where you paying that would mean so much to your friend. Here is my take on mlm.

I won't say it is scam or not but one thing I believe about this mlm of a thing is that you are putting yourself at the mercy of those "oga at the top". They might wake up one morning and decide to fold up the business. What then happens to you?

If you are making anything close to 200k monthly on mlm then this is my advice to you: why not create your own business system where you will be in total control? I bet you, if you can make up to 200k from mlm, with half of the effort, you will be making a killing from your own business.

I mean I don't believe in building another man's wealth just because I earn commissions, I'll rather use the efforts for my own business and get all the profits to myself. Just my 1 cent

Most top earners I know receive and invest otheir "commissions". For them its in millions of naira. .. Check this: you have only 24 hours in a day but if you have 100 people on your team, you leverage on 100X24 hours= 2400. Okay, let's say they only work 8 hours a day that's still you leveraging 800hours daily. How long would it take you to give that 800 hours to your business sand earn from it? By then they would have given thousands of hours. They also have people under them they leverage from. Are you employed? Then you must know your employer us leveraging on you. If you have 10 employees and they work 8 hours a day then the owner is gaining 80hours worth of work per day he or she would not ordinarily be able to produce in a day. So my friend, 100 percent of your effort is nothing compared to the small percentage of 100 peoples efforts. Get rid of that ideology now sir. Cheers

I understand your stand but what I really meant in my post is this: I will rather be at the top of the ladder and in control, at least I know my destiny is in my own hands than being at the bottom earning peanuts in relation to those at the top.

Maybe it's just me but I love to be fully incharge that's why I decided from time not to work for anyone but run my own business.

I will rather leverage on 100 people to achieve my own goals than use 100 people to achive another man's goal.

Dear sister, think about starting your own mlm business so that others can make the kudi for you. It's more profitable that way. The rich dudes you mentioned are actually at the top and in total control of the models
