in truth, this violates their human rights(religious rights). so the nay-sayers should calm down. but the judge is right that it might bring complications coz other religions or even cultures could cash in on this.. well Wisdom is profitable to direct.

wetin upheld means... Them stop am?

Upheld means that the court agrees with the decision of the Lagos state government to stop the wearing of Hijab in public schools.

Sensible decision by the court as otherwise it means anybody can wear anything to school since we have freedom to choose which defeats the idea of school uniform.

The issue now is, does the government have the political will to enforce this decision?

Religion or no religion, there's a reason why it's called uniform. Its an English word, everyone should be in the same kind of clothing. It forms a basis for the school's dress code.

I wonder why we(Nigerians) love to attach sentiments to every issue

The truth actually is that it does not violate any body's right.
Your individual right ends where the public right begins.
The wearing of school uniform is law.
Like you rightly said, what if everybody starts enforcing their individual rights? Chaos!

Will they say the islamic prayer in owerri or enugu? even in some western parts of the country with few muslims, they only say the christian prayer and not only that, i remember the teachers will actually flog you if you refuse to close your eyes during the prayers. SO WHAT IS YOUR POINT?
Have you been to Owerri or Enugu or south west Nigeria? If you have you'll know that Fridays are allocated to the muslims.

This is common among the Christians and muslims.

It may not be part of their uniform but its part of the gradual Islamisation of Nigeria.

In the Nigerian Constitution, Shariah is mentioned 73 times, Grand Khadi 54 times, Islam 28 times , Muslims 10 times but not a single mention of Christ, Christian, Christianity or church.

Vote Bukohari for total annihilation of Christendom.
Funny! If it were the muslims they would have gone on rampage.

Yes we all pay tax and everyone should be allowed free access to public spaces irrespective belief. You keep mentioning Uniforms as if they are scared objects sent from heaven and not made by human beings. The point is MAKE UNIFORMS THAT ACCOMODATE HIJAB FOR THOSE WHO WANT IT!

Of course you and I know that neither Ifa priests nor their sons wear these things to places other than their shrines/events. So this is no point really.

If Ifa children wear their stuffs to their shrine, wear your hijab to you mosque.

Why the Hijab ban is flawed

1. Muslims pay tax and have the right to attend public institutions. The Public institutions should therefore not be set up in such a way to preclude Muslims from attending. People made the rules, and people can change them.

2. Christians really have no obligation to wear white garments beyond the church and neither do the traditional worshipers have any religious clothes. So allowing Hijabs will NOT translate to chaos. I know many christian boys who wear rosaries all the time and no one has ever challenged that.

3. We should also stop the lie that there is no religion in public schools. The fact that students pray on assembly everyday and that religious studies are still taught negates this.

4. Nigeria is secular on paper only. Its the reason why religious leaders still have so much influence in our politics a la Oristejafor and Northern Emirs;the reason why we pray in every government function and even sponsor people on religious pilgrimages with taxpayers money. Countries that are truly secular don't do these.

5. By banning Hijab in public schools its easy to see how the ban may soon include all public places in the name of secularism; government offices including the House of Reps and Senate are also public spaces which should be devoid of all religious symbols.

6. Must it to get to that before we see how a Hijab ban erodes the fundamental human rights of Muslims?

7. By criminalizing Hijab in schools, what lesson are we passing across to young ones about tolerance and mutual respect?

8. Yet Hijab harms no one. Those who oppose it do so only because they don't like it.

You have valid points up there. No doubt the issue is being criminalized. I think you are avoiding obvious concerns others have and it is not the hijab. It is the question of "WHAT NEXT". prayer breaks 5 times in a school day? Female teachers for female students? Clerics to come in to teach Muslim kids, isolation and non-interaction with "infidels". Why not simply invest in more Muslim only institutions if you want pure Islamic values adhered to there.

That is how the prejudiced always bring their sentiments int o the constitution through the back door, just like the 'Gender equality' people.
Where was it mentioned that the original laws were based on inequalities or different conditions for others? None.

That is a good thing to do in a developing society that wants to progress. They aren't ninjas so hijab should be banned. Boko Haram could have easily used it to their own advantage to carry out their nefarious activities.

Go Lagos , the most developed state in Nigeria.

A uniform is not such a sacred element of education that it can't be changed to accommodate people who, due to religious obligation, need to dress a little differently.

With appropriate regulation, girls can wear Hijab without breaking the "uniformity" of school uniforms.

A Court decision that says shuts out a particular group of people from schools because of a harmless form of dressing is INTOLERANT not SENSIBLE.

Mr man, "all work and no play makes jack a dull boy" that makes saturday and sunday resting days. Even God Almighty rested on the seventh day (if your religion's manual didn't say so) come to talk of human beings taking two days off to rest. So its non of your business if christians use sunday a resting day for all to use to worship God.
To make you see that you talk without control, some christians now leave church early just to go and work on sunday and muslims now go mosque on sundays.
