@Topic.

The irony of Nigerian today, indicating a dangerous level of malevolent bigotry Nigerians currently host for each other, is that many condemning Aregbesola here (probably about 80% of respondents to this thread) have zilch to do with Osun or even the SW. Yet they intolerantly wish to tell Osun folks what they must accept or rise up against.

I know some people will always be jealous of the "religiously tolerant" tag attached to the Yorubas. They would love, by hook or by crook, to associate the SW with religious extremism even when this is entirely imagined and fabricated. This is why they never mind their business and are now shedding crocodile tears over Osun when they are the same posters always mocking the State and Yoruba folks. If Osun folks have no problem with this then what concerns the man from Anambra, Edo or Benue State with this development? If the youths are the future then it is no wonder the old boys have no intention of handing Nigeria into the hands of the Nigerian youth who have not shown any capacity or maturity for leadership.

Bruv, this is how much GEJ and the PDP has divided Nigeria along lines that used to be irrelevant or at least toned-down. Would there have been any protest over this holiday, especially from folks who do not live in Osun and have nothing to do with the state like the first few respondents to this thread , in the days of Yar Adua and Obasanjo?

Every single damn thing is now viewed by many Nigerians through ethnic and religious goggles. Yorubas say what the eyes is looking for it will find. Let some continue promoting hate, enmity and intolerance. We understand this was the case before the civil war. When we have another civil strife then all the hate-mongers should remember the part they played with their intolerant, extremely dangerous and bigoted drivel.
GEJ did not divide Nigeria along religious line. Terrorism did, especially when it became obvious to Southern Christians that the attacks only became intensified in his tenure, more so when the indications started coming in that he would go for a second tenure, and then prominent northerners asking for his resignation. If the northern muslims gave him the kind of co-operation Obj was given, things would not have degenerated this way.

Left to me Easter and Christmas should be scrapped. Religion is a personal thing but we are institutionalizing it in Nigeria even more than those we learn it from. I am a christian but i know my bible did not say i must have an holiday to celebrate Jesus' birth or his death. I can celebrate him in my heart, in my room and it will be acceptable. i don't need an official holiday to do that. For hundreds of years the Europeans and Americans were way ahead of China. Just last week the world bank said China has overtaken America as the world largest economy. That is a nation that means business! They worked hard to catch up with America. Even in Nigeria haven't u seen the way the Chinese run their cottage companies here. We need to learn from them. That is the direction we youths should go, not promoting all these religious sentiments. You want subsidies on everything without working. You want half of the working year devoted to religious holidays,abi? With all the religious holidays we have in this country how come we are not progressing as fast as those other nations that don't care about religious holidays. Your politicians know what to use to preoccupy you - they allow u to go to church or mosque where u will be preoccupied with unseen things. That way u wont have the time and energy to question their misrule. Nigerian youths need to wake up!!!
.

Thank you bros, ur opinion has shown whom u are.

Tension as masquerades storm troubled Osun school
February 06, 2014

For two days running, tension continues to mount in Iwo, Osun state as situation at Baptist High School, Iwo yesterday took a new dimension when some students of the school mobilized masquerades to the school.

The students of the school, it was gathered also appeared in masquerade attire and prevented academic activities in the school for several hours. The masquerades, it was gathered were mobilized to the school by some students with the collaboration of some traditionalists in the town as various religious organizations have taken interest in the crisis rocking the education sector in he state.

Confusion over different school uniforms

The students of the school on Tuesday caused confusion in the school as they appeared in different clothes that correlate with their religious beliefs. While the Christian students who wore white garments sown into choir gowns sang Christian songs, the Muslim students who appeared in veil on the other hand sang Islamic songs.

The state government last year introduced same uniform for all the secondary school students in the state and also legalised the use of veil (hijab) in public schools.

When will it be late? If there is christian holiday, why can't we have traditional and islamic ones? People are not comfortable because Islam is involved? There is nothing wrong with the decision (except that we now have too many public holidays in Nigeria).
