You see when you guys make your oft but worn out lies of GEJ dividing Nigeria along religious lines I just laugh. Since independence Nigeria has recorded over 300 conflicts/clashes 98% of which has been religious. In the north it has always been Muslims against Christians and vice versa even when Jonathan was a nobody.

The religious/ethnic consciousness among Nigerians didn't start today, it didn't start in 2010 but way back. If anything it is those in the opposition who are using religion to attack, we haven't forgotten the likes of Junaid Mohammed, Ango Abdullahi and a few other northern supremacists.

Back to the topic, religion isn't supposed to matter in politics and choice of candidate but unfortunately in Nigeria where people first identify with their tribe and religion before the country it does matter. With the history of the mutual distrust between adherents of the two major religions, doing as Buhari suggested may not promote confidence in the govt so formed out of such arrangement. So it's an issue that has to be handled with care less the situation further degenerates.

The NLC boss was very correct in his assessment of the situation and I fully agree with him. I also appreciate the fact that he is not trying to shield Buhari's statement and instead just takes it at face value based on how the media reported it. The general said he would run with whomever regardless of religion but all the media saw was "he will run with a Muslim", Obj didn't help matters by expressing what he thought was a reality in this country, but truth is that nothing is a big deal till we choose to make it so in this country.
