Here...
Go to settings>extras and info, to verify if you are still on Lumia black.
If you are, and it's still refusing to show updates, I guess Microsoft hasn't released the fix to enable developer preview users in Nigeria update to Cyan.
Search the internet on how to update manually to cyan using Nokia software recovery tool.

Bro, why will you suggest 1020 for someone in 2014?
That device is too slow for such price range plus it doesn't even have the best screen on the market.

A 930 or 1520 for a top range windows phone.
A 730/830 perfect for midrange buy.

If you got extra cash to splash on novelty, go for the 830, it has a 10mp camera, LTE/4g, 5 inch screen, Dolby digital sound, 16gb internal storage e.t.c
It's around 70 grand though!

The 730 lacks 4g, it has a 4.7 inch screen, 6.7 Carl Zeiss camera, (NO pureview though), has 8gb of memory. It has a DOUBLE SIM!!!
Costs 45k on konga.

I would advice you go for the 730, because the disparity in price between both devices is not reasonable. Both offer the same performance, but differ on purely novelty features.

But if want those features, you may go for the 830!

Window 8, 8.1 is still lacking behind when it comes to smartphone world.
Reasons:

1. No locking of 3G networks; I keep on getting EDGE network all the time even after setting it to 3G as highest connection and I get 3G with same sim on android and blackberry. Due to this, I have gone back to my android and blackberry coz I can't keep on getting fluctuating service why i get stable 3G with same sim. I'm the type that always need strong network for my bizness.

2. Open apps keeps on resuming after opening it for a long time. Imagine me opening 5 apps (multi-tasking) and when going back to left open apps I keep on seeing "resuming" and sometimes app will disappear in the cause of resuming. So annoying.

I can open 10 apps on any android and leave it for hours and still be able to navigate to it without waiting for the apps to load, WP lacks this feature. Even a small techno Android doesn't wait for it to load while resuming.

3. No apps to lock all my downloaded and frequently use app like vault app on android. Someone will just collect my fone and the next thing is going through all my chats, SMS, etc.

4. Coping large files like 1gig-10gig get slow like snail on window phone to window PC which not to be so. They should ask apple how they do theirs. I have once tasted iPhone before and I know how It feels to own one.
Maybe they think they're still in the era of Symbian fones.

5. Infact they need quick update for all this crap they call OS cos so many issue lacking behind. Well I have sent a copy of this as 'rate us' and also send it to window phone forum. Hopefully they said next update will be better.

I guess u're a new user of windows phone, cos the only point u've is about network which depends on ur network carrier not the phone
Also the slow transfer of files to a WP is due to scanning process of each file which makes ur device from virus.

when u talk about application resuming, i guess most of ur app are not with the latest update cos 85% of all the app runs smoothly and free from lags even BBM

when u compare Operating system Windows phone is far better than android and Blackberry Phones

since 2012 I change my phone every 3-5 months due to one problem or the other while using blackberry and android phones but since Feburary i got this lumia 820, i never felt like changing my phone cos windows phone really meet 92% of all my need from a phone especially with the phone speed and notifications

B4 venturing into an OS, users should try do some research and understand how each OS works cos most times, ignorance gets the better of us. With wp, its less tinkering with ur phone n its clearly designed to operate smooth even on low hardware. P.S. Smooth don't necessarily mean fast cos there're android phones out there with super fast speed but consistence is what they lack in the long run esp.after installing large volume of apps, not general tho; like I pointed out, humans make mistakes due to ignorance on how well to take care of a phone. IOS and WP are kinda similar with little difference with app gap being the glaring deficit for WP while IOS is still low on customisability options. With WP, to enjoy the full benefits, you'll be needing a phone with at least 1gb of ram esp. If u a game addict, some apps require a gig of ram too. Overtime, the apps are optimized to work with 512mb ram but that entirely is up to developers to iron it out. Microsoft latest update,wp8.1, smoothens a lot of things and so u less see the resuming screen that bugs us. So I advice users to go for more recent wp8 phones in the Lumia range like the Lumia 630.
Lumia 630 has 512mb ram but due to newer hardware architecture, its more better than the Lumia 620 or 520 with old hardware running on same ram. P.S. This's for those who aren't power users I.e. No game freak.
The recently released Lumia 730, 735, 830 are the goto for me when it reaches Nigeria. All have the same specs ram and processor wise so you should have no problem using the phone.

u're right... i strongly agree with bro

Stick to your old BBM as the new update isn't compatible with most windows including mine

i'd really like to make things simple for those who are not always on nairaland. there is a windows phone 8 group i started about a while ago. if u need help in updates and apps and stuff like that. all you have to do now is open ur bbm application, click on the menu and add contact. click on the next menu page and click invite. invite by barcode scan. a window should appear for u to scan. simply place the view against this barcode i will place here. NB: u have to be using another system, a PC, laptop or other phone to do this so u can scan it with ur windows phone.
I like to join the group but
Can't join the group with the barcode.

Pls add me to the group 7a1f004a
Tnx

You can only chat with the facebook messenger because facebook has made it compulsory for u to make use of the messenger application on any platform.

Other option is you using ur browsers but I tell u the messenger is much better.

Go to store and download it for free

Change your phone region to china. But language should be English. Then go to store and download free version of Moliplayer. The free version is only available in China store.

The above video player plays All format.
if that's the problem you're having
