Thank goodness this cuts across party lines so we can have objective debates here and fresh ideas on how to sustain (survive) these debts or eliminate them altogether. I just wonder how many zeros the war in the north-east has added to the load.

The problem is not borrowing but what you have used the borrowed money to do....

The Nig case is like that of that delinquent father that borrows money to fund his beer drinking and parties while his kids are being thrown out of school for not paying school fees.

We need to rise up now and demand change....why should those in political appointments and so called elected leaders earn so much? why should they use private jets at tax payers expense??

At least we have another chance to change things come 2015...please let your votes count!

Federal debts at 67%,Because more people at the Federal level are corrupt(civil servants in all MDG'S,federal politicians, national assembly, politcal appointments, advisers, asssistants, special etc). Only true Federalism can save Nigeria, but the politicians don't want it for them, because it better to steal than to work harder.

Nonsense.

Are we half America's population
Is Nigeria half developed as America.
What do we have to show for such huge debt?
Well, USA is over 300 years old, and owes about 18 trillion dollars. Leave your village and explore Nigeria, you will see wonders elsewhere. Start working!

Re: FG, States Debt Skyrockets To N10.84trn -DMO by philips70(m): 8:28am On Nov 25, 2014
I can bet 70% of that amount is invested in private estates in Lagos, Abuja, Portharcourt etc, service apartments in Dubai, bank accounts all around the world, 3 &4 star hotels all around the country and Africa. And all these across all party lines with PDP having the lion share having been in the centre since 1999 and governing more states. Yet we stay here and continue to insult ourselves on daily basis. America's trillion dollar debt is visible in America and the people will encourage them to borrow more. Can same be said about Nigeria when these debts stroll majestically into politicians and cronies pockets? The answer is an emphatic NO. The day of reckoning is coming.

They are able to incur debt because they feel they can pay back from the excess crude oil account. News flash. Petrol is now 70$ per barrel from 170$ that's like 120percent reduction. I foresee our economy going down the drains. The problem is petrol. We put all our effort in generating from crude oil. Some dummies are comparing Usa debt with nigeria. Lmao. You guys no nothing. If america has a debt profile of 200 trillion sef, they are still in better position than us.

2/3 of our debt owed by Federal government sounds illogical. What is sure is that 52% of our national budget goes to the same Federal government with little or nothing to show for it across the nation.Scandals and corruption seems to often have the upper hand in this administration and one bothers where we are heading to.Someone will stupidly said GEJ till 2019 without knowing its full implication on his and future children's life. This same government made over $470b in just five years more than what OBJ,ABACHA,ABDULSALAM AND YAR'ADUA made in 16 years of $488b.When Sanusi Lamido Sanusi said $20b was missing we called him names. With the exception of other revenue accrue to government purse,52% of $470b is %244.4b,our average national budget is $25b for 5 years is $125b.$244.4b-$125=$119.4b.What we have in our ECA is just$32b.Nigerians should ask PDP and GEJ where our $$87.4b is hidden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
