Banning On Nairaland: Possible Modification. by omenka(m): 8:32am On Dec 06, 2014

I might be strange to a lot of folks here. Well, I'm here ONLY because I couldn't create this where I'm most active; politics section.

I'm creating this thread to suggest a possible addition to the numerous awesome packages on the forum.

Was busy messing around my favourite board two days ago when on trying to comment on some thread I realised that I had been banned a moment ago by a mod and an anti spam bot for violating "rule 2" on politics (can't remember what the rule says). Since then I've got loads of mentions and it kinda hurts one can't respond to them, especially the reasonable ones. For some of us, difficult as it is to admit, nairaland has come to replace most other social places like facebook, twitter, bbm, whatsapp, etc. My monthly activity on those places hardly exceeds a day's worth of what it used to be before I became active on Nairaland.

Now, when it hit me I had been banned, I was of course upset and needed some place to vent my anger and then this idea came to me;

How about the admin created a place like some sort of Penitentiary where those who've been banned could live out their sentences??

These Prison(s) could be made peculiar to every board, or say just those that attract the most traffic where folks are most likely to get banned like Romance and Politics.

They could be given fancy names like Sona, Alcatraz, or Kirikiri depending on what the admin desires and CAN ONLY BE ACCESSIBLE to those serving sentences who cannot post comments on the Regular Boards and once they serve out their Terms (bans) the Prisons become INACCESSIBLE to them.

In this prison one can discuss whatever they desire, fight all they want, with minimal interference from the Prison Warden. Mad House I hear someone say! cheesy

I don't know how this might sound to the admin but I think it should be worth some consideration. If a cat must be denied its fish, I think it should at least be left with a little bone to gnaw at. smiley. Some of us with just a single handle since registering on this forum could actually use something like this.

I know this is subject to abuse. Like some folks with multiple IDs could want to deliberately break the law so they could be sent to jail. They would wanna have their fingers in both pies; being able to comment on the Regular Boards and still maintain a presence in Prison. I'm yet to figure out how this can be prevented but I think the tech gurus in the house should have an idea.

Let me stop here so you guys can make your inputs. cheesy

Kudos for this hilarious idea, but some people will start deliberately breaking rules so they can be sent there. It will encourage rulebreaking.

Really hilarious but insightful gringrin

But you know nairalanders are stubborn...someone will break the rules unnecessarily just to go there and cause more trouble.

And if you cause trouble in the 'penitentiary' will you still be banned again grin

If I am banned,I have over 7 monikers to function with so I think ,alternate monikers should be legalised!

How about making only that section accessable to them. Once they log in it takes them there straight away. NO FRONT-PAGE VIEW, NOTHING, JUST THERE, till thier time is over.

@Omenka I share your sentiment. Was once banned for one week by OAM4J on 7th of August,2014 which expired on 14th August, 2014.

Indeed was very painful for me reason being that couldn't get anybody who could solicit for me and their was nothing like e-Judiaciary where those who violate the Nairaland Rules and Regulations should be tried or given fair hearings in the crime committed.

On this note, I hereby endorse your SUGGESTION on this incessant banning on this board as well as calling on Seun and his Admin Staff to create e-JUDICIARY section where the offender or those who go contrary to the Rules shall be tried and if found guilty should be sent to the Prison yard.

Cogito ergo sum smiley

People don't need to be on nairaland to plan its destruction. And the prisons, I suppose, would be accessible by the Wardens/Mods. Besides, why should anyone want to destroy the forum??

You can get it whenever you want to reply to a thread or quote someone.

Just try this, click on reply button on this thread as if you want to leave a comment, the first thing you will see is the Rules and regulations. They are 21 in number.

Thanks cool

I think I understand Seun's sentiments. Just as the op stated, this is likely to be abused because some people might deliberately break rules so they could be sent to Jail (even the Op stated thesame in the original post).

The only people I see doing such are those with multiple IDs. Some people might wanna keep tabs on what's going on in the prisons while still maintaining their freedom on the regular boards, true. But if the admin could make it possible to ban people possibly with their IPs (don't know if it is possible to "restrict" an IP to just particular places the way IDs can be restricted) then it would serve as a deterrent to deliberately committing "felony" grin.

When you understand "you can't eat your cake and have it" then I don't think you would wanna deliberately break the law and go to jail. Besides, you have NO IDEA how long your sentence is gonna last!!
