Hopefully this is a sign that slowly but STEADILY our judiciary is returning our country back to the path of civilisation after decades of crude decrees by military dictators that created a LAWLESS society ruled by MIGHT rather than by the basic principles of equity, fairness and human RIGHTS.

We shall get there surely!!!

It really all boils down to good leadership really. If we adopt the merit system especially in all government institutions, it will really go a long way. Sure many people will be affected when this change finally comes( i might even be inclusive..lol) But the main result is for the future of our country. A lecturer of mine told us that in france to get into the civil service you have to come out with a 2:1 from the university. Now tell me why won't there be progress in such service. We need a total overhaul of all the institutions in the hands of the government only then can we begin to progress. Because the problem of our beloved country lies in these institutions.

I have always mentioned Olisa as one real Progressive!

This is the progressive I believe in!
If I can have Olisa Agbakoba, Ben Bruce, Abubakar Umar, Wole Soyinka and their likes coming together to for a Progressive party, then I can join.

On the judgment, it is coming too little too late.
I have already given up on Nigeria!

It is sickening to be reminded that such a retrogressive system has been in existence for decades... A country which glaringly discourages and suppresses intelligence, hardwork and competence and then goes ahead to promote and glorify incompetence and mediocrity... and yet we wonder why our educational system keeps declining everyday when we practice Kakistocracy.

I really hope and pray that this judgement would be upheld and extended to every other facet of our lives - University admission, federal appointments, federal scholarships etc.

Kudos to Agbakoba!

It amazes me why any right thinking man/woman (especially from the south) will look at Nigeria today and call GEJ clueless and weak!!!!! The only Nigerian president so far that has shown the guts to face the north and recover our dear country from them by reversing most of the sickening policies tactically enacted by their military brothers to perpetually enslave the south The only president so far that has gradually given the south a sense of belonging in a country they should originally be kings (by virtue of the number of literates and technocrats therwin)? Simplicity for Christs sake is not weakness!! Open your eyes nigerians!!!!!! Things are gradually taking shape for the first time in this country!!!! Take a look around you folks, asses the caliber and pedigree of people holding political appointments today (ministers and heads of parastatals like NTA, FRSC, NERC, FIRS, NFF, NSC, NSE, CBN, SPMCN, NNPC, NA, NDA, NAF, NAVY, NPA etc) and compare them with those of the past, finally it seems square pegs are being put in square holes. Secondly, Compare the elections of today and those of the past. Compare the level of youth empowerment today (e.g sure-p GIS, YOUWIN, ENG'G SCHOLARSHIP) etc. Compare the level of employment: DSS, NNPC, NERC, NPF, NCS, NTC, MOA, MOE and finally compare the infrastructural development: Lagos-ibadan expressway, the notorious benin-ore expressway, owerri-portharcourt expressway, enugu-onitsha expressway, enugu-owerri, east-west road, kontagora-jega highway, abuja-lokoja!!!!!!!" Cmon folks!!!!! Let's tell ourselves the truth. That man (GEJ) is the best president we have so far. He might not be an orator like obama, but from experience, good leadership gods far beyond the mastery of words and big vocabularies. (Ask anambarians about the man PETER OBI!!!!). Cheers!

When u see a hausa man struggling tooth and nail to entrench the likes of buhari to the seat of power u may not understand his motive. These people really do not care about good governance. A classic example of their want has been exposed.. Undue favouritism and medocrity taking the place of excellence.

ZKOSOSO:
May God Keep Blessing this rare lawyer with a human face !! Olisa was born and raised in the north. So he knows it!!

You can see clearly that it takes a southerner who is born, raise and school in the core muslim North to really appreciate the thick discrimation that exist in this country put in place by ahmadu bello from the 50s till date!

Elds criteria for kids
Catchment area for adult students
Quota system for working class
Federal character for positions and promotions
Muslim/ christian for politicians and traditional institutions. Nearly all palaces in north arefor fulani muslims evenwhen xtians are 90% of the population, eg kafanchan, gwoza, mubi, zuru, all of fct palaces!!
North/south for president

Its almost impossible for a southerner born and raised in the north will not grow up with a sense of hate.

Now let's face this for once!! Are emirs supposed to be paid with govt money?? They are islamic leaders that only use Sharia to rule.
So they are like pastors, rev fathers, bishops etc. So why maintain them with govt fund??
He was raised in the east, Onitsha precisely.

A Federal High Court in Lagos has entered judgement in favour of an application by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, seeking uniform admission requirements into Federal Government Colleges, otherwise called unity schools.

Agbakoba had sued the Minister of Education, Mr. Ibrahim Shekarau, over the disparity in the admission requirements for students seeking to study in the unity schools.

Delivering judgement in the suit marked FHC/L/CS/1358/2013 on Wednesday, Justice James Tsoho held that such disparities in admission requirements into the Federal Government colleges were against the spirit of Section 42(1) of the 1999 Constitution.

The judge held that since the Constitution was supreme, it would automatically override any administrative law or policies adopted by the Ministry of Education.

The court therefore ordered Shekarau to apply uniform admission requirements, especially cut-off marks, to all candidates seeking admission into unity schools across the country.

In a 19-paragraph affidavit filed in support of his suit, Agbakoba had stated that since the inception of the unity schools, the Federal Government had maintained disparities in admission requirements.

He noted in particular that the Federal Government prescribed different cut-off marks based on the candidates’ gender and their states of origin.

He therefore sought a declaration of the court that the action of the education minister in prescribing and applying different requirements, including cut-off marks, to candidates seeking admission into unity schools was in violation of the Constitution.

He asked the court to grant an order of perpetual injunction restraining the education minister from all further acts of discrimination in admission to the unity schools.

comparing cut off marks for gals from Anambra and Zamfara states which stand at 139 and 2 respectively, a gal from anambra who scores 138 will be denied admission in favor of the one from Zamfara who scores 2 points. Enugu gal must be 70times better to get a place for such basic thing as education, and we have unknowingly lived with these disease till now. Agbakoba, Chukwu gozie gi o o o.
