GEJ's Obscene & Immoral Election Fundraising Contravenes Electoral Act by Nobody: 12:35pm On Dec 21, 2014
Section 91[9] of the Electoral Act

No individual or other entity shall donate more than one million Naira to any candidate. It is an offence punishable by fine or terms of imprisonment to contravene the law.

Mr Tunde Ayeni - N2billion
Chairman of SIFAX group - 100million.
Transport and Aviation sector - N1billion,
Agriculture - N500million
Power sector - N500m.
Board of the Shelter Development Limited - N250million
Construction sector - N310million.
Road Construction players - N250million
National Automative Association - N450million.
Rivers state PDP Chapter - N50million

The mind boggling amounts donated during the recent fundraising for the current Nigerian President is both obscene and immoral. These individuals and entities donating funds running into Billions of Naira expect to recoup their investments by taking such costly gamble.

They expect the returns on their investments to come at our expense in all sectors of the economy viz Power, Works, Petroleum etc. In the past Nigerians could only watch as the political class mortgages the future of the generation unborn, but not now

Nigerians speak up, these donations contravene our laws and should be investigated. If this does not work....REMEMBER THAT YOU ALL HAVE THE POWER TO USE YOUR VOTES TO MAKE A CHANGE

It is not the level of corruption that is most worrisome but the impunity applied to carry it out without thought of any consequences for breaking the law. How did we get to this point?

Which part of the law does it contravene? I am not supporting GEJ but if they feel he has created an environment for their sector to succed and decide to show appreciation, i dont see anything wrong with that. Unless the EFCC indict any of them.

APC called for donation too from the masses. These people are giving their money. What of those that borrowed money from the bank to buy ticket.

Do you know how much other APC politicians have invested in APC and are still ready to invest more? They cant openly say how much they are investing because Nigerians can attack them.

Jerry Gana and friends - N5bn.

What PDP has done is illegal but they can always say that the money is for the entire PDP national campaign not just for Presidential.

Rivers state PDP Chapter - N50million

Does a party donate to itself? Is it the party contesting as President? Remember tomorrow...... your descendants will ask you to give account of how you tried to mortgage their future by supporting corruption

We have more than enough law enforcement agencies, some with overlapping roles. I hope either INEC should report the donors or the agencies do the needful.

But WHO WILL BELL THE CAT?

Even if this act is not immoral and against the laws of the land, why is a party planning to use 21billion to stay in power in the midst of dwindlling national revenue and insecurity?

If the party as done so well like we have been made to belief, will they still be required to spend this much to convince Nigerians?

The democracy Nigeria is practicing itself encourages corruption. While I do not see how the opposition will make any much difference, it will amount to foolishness to continue with the status quo that has brought retrogresssion in the last 16yrs.

My understanding is that the donations are for PDP as a party and parties are funded through donations since it is not a business organisation. The law referred to talks of individuals and PDP is not an individual.

How much does a refinery cost please? Why can't Jonathan organise a fund raiser for capital projects?
Re: GEJ's Obscene & Immoral Election Fundraising Contravenes Electoral Act by chidexy(m): 5:46pm On Dec 21, 2014
There is a clear difference between donating to a candidate and donations to a political party. The law is clear on that and President Jonathan hasn't constituted his campaign team yet. So all donations are to the party and there's no limit to the amount that a political party can take

How much was squandered in the just concluded APC presidential primaries?

Amaechi alone was said to have spent about 11 billion naira to secure Buhari's 3000 delegate win. That will be on average 4 million per vote.

Going at this rate the APC will require trillions in the campaingn proper.
