yes sir. That is my point. Once they know you don't want to leave your country, they allow you more travelling freedom. They know you won't likely jump your visa cos your country is Ok anyway. They know you only want to travel for tourism and not to burden their economy with immigration so they encourage you to come and boost their economy with your tourist money so the lesser we travel for immigration purposes the stronger the passport.

Speaking, respectfully, as a non-Nigerian, he does have a point, does he not? Remittances will never develop a country. It would indeed be better for more Nigerians to stay at home and develop their country. I would personally NEVER immigrate from my country to work abroad and it is good to see that there are Nigerians who share that mentality with me.

I cannot imagine what it must be like to have to get a visa just to travel to the USA, Europe or anywhere. Yet that seems to be the result for many innocent Nigerians because of those who migrate illegally and overstay. Their misbehavior hurts the whole country. In that regard I agree with the commentator who says it is always better for most people to stay at home and work, to develop the country's economy.

Cool I studied in the UK (university of Hull and Kings College, London). I agree that Nigeria is FAR FROM a poor country. But how can you not agree with me that the country's chances of development suffer when its human resources migrate??

By the say, corruption is a RESULT of underdevelopment, not its cause. The less developed a country, the smaller the middle class and the less well it functions as a democracy. Development reduces corruption.

Nigeria does not lack human or financial resource, Nigeria lack honest leaders, so staying back will not solve the problem until the politicians stopped stealing. Nigeria is not a country that needs resource for development, Nigeria does have resource mismanaged by systematic corruption.

Corruption in the case of Nigeria got little to do with underdevelopment because its from the top.

Nigeria is 'poor' because she is rich.

I met many Nigerian friends when I studied in the UK. I never had the impression that Nigerians needed visas to enter even the UK. Is it not a commonwealth country? How on earth can citizens of a commonwealth country need visas to enter the UK, the home of the head of the commonwealth? I think that the Nigerian government can do more to convince other countries not to place visa restrictions on Nigerian passport holders.

If you want the UK to include Nigeria in the list of visa-free countries then that goes against the stay-at-home argument. Visa restrictions are put in place to control immigration, so in that it should help Nigerians stay at home and develop Nigeria? Of course not, do you want Nigerians living abroad to return home when their chances of getting kidnapped is high? Infact the northern part of Nigeria is almost no-go-area for any Nigerian apart from the militants.

How will you stay back and develop Nigeria when you will be luck to get 7hrs of electricity a day? And this is not because Nigeria can not afford to have constant electricity...no, since 1980s billions or trillions has been 'spent' on the same project by different govt regimes but the same result...darkness.

I don't know about your country's annual national budget but i'm tempted to boast that 4-5 Nigerian politicians are richer than your whole country, don't ask me what they do.

My statement that visa free travel should be allowed for Nigerians DOES NOT contradict my view that people should generally not migrate for work. Visa free travel would of course be granted only for those entering as tourists. I think it is ridiculous that a person in Nigeria cannot simply get on a plane with a passport and visit Britain, which was after all the colonising country and the 'mother' of the empire. Do British people need visas to visit Nigeria? There should be equal respect and reciprocity.

British people need a visa to visit Nigeria. There is absolutely nothing wrong with immigrating for work, there are many Americans and other EU citizens here in the UK working, has that stopped their individual countries from developing? Chinese with all their wealth are here in the UK starting businesses and settling down permanently, has that stopped China from developing?
