Floating cages is great, challenges are cannibalism(high since u cant really do sorting) and d few experiment i knew was carried out in lagos, they got large fishes, but d stocked density was greatly reduce. In biz, u dare & see if it works for u. I will see if i can upload a pic(though it was uploaded sometime ago)

I like the concept of floating cage in a river. You may stock at melange stage to avoid sorting, cannibalism etc but my fear is that when your fish might have attained 1.5 - 2kg and you are ready to sell, you get to your farm and see nothing!

I means since its floating and in water, its proned to outright theft! Local fishermen can come at midnight when you are already snoring and paddle the entire farm away.

From what I see in that pix, if you are not a typical fisherman that can stand/stay at the centre of water ----large water you may have to reconsider it. This one nor be tapauline, concrete or even earthen pond. .......did you see the massive water? Am already shivering.....

it depends, if a man has a phobia for massive water(makes them dizzy) ,it is better to stay clear this system or d alternative, create d ones u can install around small streams or narrow river channels. below are feeding pic, accept apology for d pic outlook.

There are thiny black worms in my pond and they stick to the body of my fish. When they move they can stretch to like 1ft in length and become small when not movingt. Kindly advise on what to use to eliminate them from my pond.

Hello Fish farmers in the house. I always read thru this thread with great joy and I am very appreciative of the gurus in the house who freely share their wealth of experience in this forum.

I am about opening a fish farm. I have already contracted a consultant to guide me through the process and site preparation is also ongoing. This consultant has prepared a feasibility report for me. One of the estimates in the report is that we can produce and sell up to two hundred thousand(200k) fingerlings at once in the hatchery. I found this estimate unrealistic.

Please the gurus, what is your take in this. Is this really possible?

The floating cage of N1m, how many table size fishes can it take?

If one can have that you won't bother about changing water, pollution, nepa bill,neighbour's wahala etc. You focus on feed and security.

6000-8000, indeed u wont bother about some of d things u mentioned,but u have to bother that their growth rate shouldnt be of large variation or you have some feeding big on d ones not catching up

@fhemmmy i have seen that,same concept,different approach. Either way,no fish comes in or out of both cages,that u show is prone to fishing birds,d other u can stand over your fishpond.when u feed no feed is lost,except u overfeed which might not be picked & will still be picked cos no pollution in such tanks.mind u d bottom aint a free fall, all an enclosement for your fishes.
