The delay was caused by an unidentified goat eating an unidentified yam at the Presidential Wing of the airport. grin

I'm impressed by his decision not to unduely throw his political weight around just simply because he could but that he rather seized the opportunity and devoted his time to observe the lapses flight scheduling and boarding and was decent enough to even give reports. That's impressive.

Its only when the Minister and State Commissioners for transport decide to take public buses on the roads that we all ride on daily, that we will begin to see better roads. It is only when the Minister and State Commissioners for education put their children in public schools that we will begin to have access to better education.

I'm quite disappointed that like most Nigerians, Mr Chidoka does not know the difference between 'I'm' and 'am', or has the usage changed?
God bless you for this. It is very disappointing to say the least. 70% of Nigerians use "Am" instead of "I am".

It's almost being widely recognized.

It was a good thing he had a taste of what we go through maybe he will take action and ensure not only that they stick to time but ensure security of our luhgage. My younger came in from the UK last week and by the time his bag came out it had been slashed and things he bought for people stolen. It was a ghost that took them. It was somebody in the cargo. He came on KLM

Good for Chidoka to be on the receiving end.
Those airlines take a bloody piss and it is high time something is done to checkmate the unprofessional attitude and poor time keeping
Last month my flight was delayed by around 5 hours by British Airways on my way back from London to Lagos.....
I got £498.35 in compensation!
We need that kind of policies around here...... Piss take is rife in the aviation sector / industry!

Although Mr Chidoka's experience wasn't nice, he cannot unilaterally sanction Arik Air. The only thing he can do is to report the incident to the NCAA, who will then take any action deemed appropriate.

Arik should better wake up if they want to be considered as partners in the new national carrier.

I doubt the authenticity of the story.

The story can easily be verified because I don't believe a Minister for aviation can just be blabbing. Please let's call a spade a spade. This is just one case out of many that passengers has to face every other day. Nobody is saying that flights cannot be delayed or even be cancelled but the reasons has to be justifiable. They don't have to be casual about it, passengers' rights ought to be respected.

He's only just starting to 'observe lapses'! What the heck has he been doing since he became Minister of Aviation?(!) He should have been aware of these lapses long before now, if he was actually on top of his job.

From the look of what goes on around us in this country , these guys do practically next to nothing in office!

He has been travelling with private jets. Now no money due to austerity measures. I agree with the poster who wants all public officers to utilise public services and public education. It should be as a matter of law. That is one way to improve public service. Just like everybody is screaming constant power supply, trust me if these public office holders, who should be responsible in solving problems have access to constant power supply without wasting money for fuel, we are on our own.

Laughs with Arik anything is possible. I have been delayed by Arik for over 12 hours. Got to abuja 1am for a 12noon flight. No announcement, no communication, no apologises, no refreshment, no nothing. We only heard rumours that they lack aviation fuel.

What a useless airline.

well it is good for them to feel what the common air passangers feel in the hands of these unscrupulous companies.

imagine our flight was cancelled and no one sent a message before that day to give us heads up until we got to the airport to check in. only to be told that the flight was cancelled since 3 days.

you miss your flight, you pay them, they cancel your flight it's business as usual. no regards

Now that is the painful aspect - they delay the flight and no compensation. I just think Nigerians are just too polite and quiet. Yet we travel out and begin to embarrass ourself outside the country when we can actually do nothing at home.

Exactly. Some Nigerian airlines have no business operating. It is better to have no airlines than to have airlines putting people through pains. I have no pity for the minister because this mess occurs everyday with Arik. Arik is notorious with delays and cancellation of flight. If the minister is just noticing this, then it is a shock.

I have personally experienced the same disappointment from Arik in the past so I am fully aware of what other Air passengers go through before boarding.

I only wanted to confirm that the Aviation Minister was actually made to pass through the same and none of Arik staff took note of him.

The honourable minister should purnish arik but get them to be better

They have to be our national carrier

But they should also give arik the unique right to land local flights at MM1

I don't understand why international travellers land in MM1 and connect to MM2 for local flight

That's madness.

You are subject to poor roads, poor luggage handling and poor traffic!

Arik needs to also start behaving like a world class company

I flew Arik internationally but had to beg for wine! Again that's madness!

why should they be our national carrier?

YOU INPUT DETERMINES YOUR OUTPUT. ON THE OTHER HAND, ITS BETTER TO BE DELAYED ON GROUND THAN THE OTHER ONE. BUT WHY IS THIS AN ISSUE, IF NA ME, WHO FOR TALK? I EQUALLY GET DELAYED MOST TIME SO ITS NOT NEW BUT PART OF OUR FLIGHT SCHEDULE. NEXT TOPIC PLS.
