indeed "efik EDI mbakara" em proud 2 b a dauta of d soil

It actually should be spelt as 'Efuk' going by the pronunciations.

The distinguishing markers between Efik and Ibibio are diminishing daily and significantly over the years. What we speak now is what I call "Efibibio".smiley

Have you ever visited Cross River State in Nigeria? If not, you should do so soon because the state is filled with diverse ethnic groups, beautiful places and amazing people. Today, we’ll be taking a trip down memory lane to understand one of the ethnic groups in this beautiful state, the Efiks. The Efiks are one of Nigeria’s most prevalent and interesting ethnic groups. The people predominantly occupy the south of Cross River State and speak Efik. But before they became the Efiks we know today, they had an origin, traditions and lifestyle – some extinguished but some maintained. Below are some historical facts about them:

ECONOMY: Although their economy was originally based on fishing, they quickly developed into a major trading region, trading slaves and agricultural products like palm oil, cassava, yam etc. in exchange for European manufactured goods in the 17th to 19th
century.

So basically the Efiks are the "Dahomey" of Nigeria? They got rich enslaving people. undecided

Homo sapiens are said to be 195,000 years old.

Those 'English' surnames came about because the English were too lazy to pronounce Efik names properly and also English was the language of trade - so 'Nsa' became Henshaw.

Cool.

They were 'liberal' before Europeans, in fact the Europeans that influenced them, the Victorians, were not liberal at all.

Good to know buddy. And European influence or not, The South South is known for being more liberal and open when it comes to certain things.
