Not all yoruba are from oduduwa. The oduduwa story is created by 'WE' oyo to show supremacy, and this story was propagated by the likes of samuel johnson and co. If you check earlier writings like lagos census you will notice that it is only OYO that is call yoruba and others were represented with their own name too like the ijesa,igbomina, ekiti,ijebu etc there is even evence that it was the hausaa/fulani jihad that named the oyos 'Yoruba' which later change to 'yoruba'. To those that believe in oduduwa story what are you going to call the ekitis that never appear in the history of yoruba but appear in the more-guilded Ifa literary corpus that even oRunmila once lived and ruled before going to ile-ife. Any history anybody want to relate should try and compare is story well with Ese-Ifa cos it is more reliable than most assumptions because of it religious usefulness. One thing is certain 'WE OYO' are the. Political and military guidance of the Yoruba Nation which helps us in distort history just like the former is also trying to do. Please Non-yoruba if you want to add to the discussion/argument/debate please use evidence from the Yoruba nation Only. Any evidence from other nation be it igbo,hausa,bini or europeans will be rejected by ME but people from other NATION can contributes. Thanks

The Yoruba nation is more than 21 million people. Lagos alone has a population of 18 million people, which the Yoruba constitute more than 70% of the population. Are you saying Yoruba in Benin Republic,Togo and Diaspora are less than 5 million? Actually, the Yoruba nation is more than 60 million people.

[b]Na just population Yoruba get...... They are so tribalistic and obviously like to think of themselves as sophisticated but then they share that opinion among themselves only. For now they can stand firm with their Northern masters but when push comes to shove they will discover they're standing alone. The Yoruba's should be grateful to Fayose for standing his ground and not allowing them all to be sold to slavery entirely.

The 3 top public figures representing Yorubas---- Obasanjo, Tinubu and Oba Akiolu... While Tinubu is corruption personified and Oba Akiolu has a leaking mouth... Obasanjo is corrupt, has a leaking mouth and has destroyed his own family with his incestuous nature. How can a man sleep with his Son's wife

Anyway i repeat again, the only thing the Yorubas have over any region from the south is population, e nor pass like that. Their hatred for other tribes apart from their Northern masters is appalling to say the least.

if Yoruba people are descendants of Oduduwa, then Yorubas originated from Benin. this is because Oduduwa is Prince ekekeredaiken, a true benin son who was banished from Benin
I heard the same story while I was in Edo state also, but it is obvious that oduduwa never migrated from Benin. Its just a mean to gain more importance, same way the Yorubas believe that it was Oranmiyan who founded Benin. He might be from either Mecca, Sudan or Egypt

The Yoruba people are one of the ethnic groups of southwestern Nigeria and southern Benin in West Africa. The Yorubas are a distinctive people who are bound together by a common language with various different dialects. They also share a rich history and culture.
Here are 7 facts about the Traditional Yoruba Culture:

1. According to Yoruba mythology, all Yoruba people are descendants of Odua or Oduduwa. And today, there are over fifty individuals who claim kinship as descendants of Odua/Oduduwa.

2. According to encyclopedia.com, the Yoruba traditional marriage entails six steps:
-The seeking of a potential spouse (Igba ifojusode);
-Approval from the oracle-divinity (Ifa f’ore);
-Release of the young woman’s voice (Isihun);
-Requesting for the young woman’s hand in marriage from her family (Itoro);
-Creation of the marital bond (Idana); and
-Transferring the wife to the husband’s lineage (Igbeyawo).

3. The language of the Yorubas, known as Yoruba, belongs to the Congo-Kordofanian language family. Yoruba as a language has many dialects, but most of its speakers are able to understand each other.

4. The Yoruba constitute over 35 million people in total with majority of this population from Nigeria. The Yorubas make up 21% of the Nigerian population.

5. According to the CIA World Fact book, the Yoruba are one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa.

6. Traditional childbirth in Yorubaland does not support anyone younger than the mother to be present at the birth.

7. When a child is born in a traditional Yoruba society, the infant is taken to the backyard with the umbilical cord bound tightly with thread before it is cut. The placenta is then buried in the backyard. The child is bathed with a loofah sponge and rubbed with palm oil on the placenta burial spot. Then the child is held by the feet and given three shakes to make him/her strong and brave. A naming ceremony is held after 8 days.

Are you sure you a true Yoruba man? Because what you have written is a deliberate omission of who the actual Yorubas are. For example, the yorubas are among the worst corrupt ethnic group. There is Thiefnu.bu. Ask people why his name is changed to Thiefnu.bu. You will then agree with me on that. I wll be back, hurrying for an emergency call.

Don't be too quick to judge.
I schooled and camped in the north so i know very well what northerners are like.
The media has clouded your mind. yes they act crazy at times but don't we all do same? the fact that theirs is publicized doesn't make others saint.

I sometimes wish i was a northerner, their level of piety and kindness is way more compared to any other tribe

There's absolutely nothing spectacular about the Yorubas except the fact that they're chest beaters who lost their land to fulani herdsmen and are slaves to the northerners.
