Mmm, well your opinions are yours to have.

Support Renly? Ned wasn't even in support of Stannis.

My view is that Ned Stark midjudged how dangerous and high risk the game he was playing was. You cannot afford to let your emotions interfere with your decisions in such a serious position - and that was what Ned did. Starks don't do that - they did not become the most feared Lords in the North by doing that. I think it was a momentary lapse in judgement by Ned; he had shown many times before that he was not afraid of making harsh decisions when it was needed. Sadly it was the mistake that would cost him his life.

What are you talking about? Ned knew all along he was playing a dangerous game but still decided to do it the right way. That doesn't make him a fool, it makes him a honourable man. That is why the north will always rally to the starks. The north remembers.

Wait. Am I the only one rooting for Stannis? Come on nairaland Stannis Baratheon is awesome and a wise man.

Stannis is overly reliant on Melisandre. He is ruled by what the 'Lord of Light' wills. Melisandre may come up with her own agenda along the way.
My money is on Danearys any day; she has a fearless army, 3 yet to be tamed dragons and a respected bloodline.
I foresee strong alliances being forged soon.

I really thought I was through with this Ned Stark argument...

Ok, I think our problems lies in our definition of "foolish"; what you think of as "the right way" is actually what I think is the foolish way. How can you keep playing fair when your opponents are so crooked and malevolent, and still hope to win? You just can't! Its either you bend your rules, or you lose - or the less walked road, you resign and go home. Remember what Maester Aemon said to Jon Snow right after he was made Lord Commander: It is time to kill the boy and let the man be born. Although in the books, this was actually said to Aegon V a.k.a the Egg.

So that's what I mean by Ned was foolish. Yes, of course, he did the "right thing", but was it the wise thing? He'd stepped up to the Iron Throne in Robert's stead and meted out the King's justice on Gregor Clegane (a.k.a the Mountain) who was ravaging the Riverlands bordering the Westerlands; this was right after fighting Jaime Lannister, thereby further incurring Tywins wrath. And then he turned around and further weakened his own position by gifting Cercei with the secret he knew. Naturally Cercei (who knew what Robert would do when he finds out) acted first and got Robert poisoned, leaving our dear Ned with nothing but a powerless letter to fight with. The rest, as they say, na story for the gods.

Look guys, nobody is arguing that Ned was not an honorable man. He was. He was a good man, and he was loved and respected for it. But he was singularly unsuited to dealing with power-drunk Lords like the Lannisters. Honor is an admirable trait, but sometimes it is wiser to be hard and harsh. What Ned chose to do was not wise, it was foolish.

….and nobody should drag me back to this argument again. angry

Awesome and wise? That's hard to see from where I stand. All I see is a stubborn man who is easily manipulated by a suspicious witch.

I could say Ned was harsh, when he had to be. But you have your opinion i have mine. Ned was always going to die regardless because LF wanted him dead. Why do you use kill the boy for Ned ? Isnt he passed that stage ? That is not a question. You said the right thing is sometimes the foolish thing, you're right, but the smart thing isn't always the best thing. Most of Ned's actions in KL, cant even be considered honorable. He is honorable but not to the point of stupidity. Again, the smart thing might be what's good on the short run, but the right thing is what is best on the long run. Good leaders crave no power, his major character traits was his honor, he had principles, something which doesnt remotely fly in today's society and for that reason it's very looked down upon and branded an ideal of someone foolish. When that trait is applied in a medieval setting like westeros it is revered. Eddard knows some politics but he doesnt play the Game of Thrones.

He's lived his life in the feudal system of Westeros and believes that the success of that system is built upon everyone knowing their roles and doing their duty, like Stannis refers. The problem is that, he gets to KL, and finds out, this people aren't content with their positions. They dont know how to follow. They scheme and plot and backstab because they aren't satisfied with where they are, regardless that a lot of people in the kingdoms live off scrap, and find it hard to survive. These Lords and Ladies play their so called game of thrones and the innocents suffer. That's separated Ned from everyone else in KL, he was satisfied where he was and never really wanted more, even though he ended up getting it. So i think, dont blame the victims, blame the system. After all he wasnt dismissed for incompetence, he just got outplayed by those that considered him a threat.

Guy, he was ready to sacrifice his life for the right thing. He was prepared for it. It was when they threatened his children he succumbed to their ways. He knew he was going to get killed but didn't care. That is not foolishness, that is honour.

Let's just pass this one as opinion. No more argument.

He is not being stubborn and he is right to obey the witch (for now). He believed Sam when no one did and listens to that smuggler guy (sir devos?). He actually is the one with the best claim for now (you could argue daenerys too). I just love the guy sha maybe it's because of melisandre wink

Talking about Ned stark, the lesson i take from him is dont trust too much! call Ned an Honourable fool, you are not wrong! but i was heartbroken watching him die dat way!

Jofrey died an easy death considering all d atrocities he perpetuated!

Tyrion Lannister is a man of good spirit! he is fair in judgement and the wisest dwarf ever liveth lol (my fave xter in d GOT series)

Jon Snow smashed dat puscy like i would, so sad Ygritte had to die!

i dont see how tyrion fits as the third dragon rider. Has young Griff proven to be a Blackfyre than Rhaegar's Aegon? I even consider Bran a better contender to Tyrion.

Ok, Bran will surely skinchange a dragon. And as for Tyrion, i dont believe he's a Targ, the theory isnt plausible to me. Dany Jon and Bran or Aegon if he's real. But i think he's fake.

Proof that the writers know their shiitt and are not just making stuff up. First 3 images from S02E07

Also heard that the show is going for 8 seasons. I encountered a book spoiler today that might explain the grey worm-mesandei story line...Wish I didn't.
