Nigeria should not have a national grid. More cities and states would have 24/7 if they were not required to feed power into a grid system that benefits those who (once again) do not contribute to the national effort. 1 Like |

As much as what you are saying is through, i wil not totally agree with you. The only place that enjoys 24hrs power supply is residential area of the NLNG popularly known as RA. I frequent Bonny very well, and i can categorically tell you that GRA, Riverside and even bonny town experience power failure. NLNG is trying for the community as a host, but since community decided to maintain their distribution, poor management/maintenance affect then. i can tell you, they do have power failure. 1 Like |

Well, it would really be something if it can be replicated throughout the federation. Don't hold your breath though. |

themodernman:Yes, you can! Rent is relatively high. A single room(with toilet and kitchen) costs between 120 and 180k per year. Note also that it is a water-locked area and there's no road to the city. The only means of transportation to the island is by boat! |

Also what of security and safety? Hooe no militants or natural disaster like flooding etc. As a medical doctor can I get a hospital to work in over there...tnx. |

Re: A City In Nigeria With 24/7 Electricity Supply! by seyitony1(m): 8:37pm On Jun 11, 2015 |
Its possible because of gas availability on the Island. Don't forget they carry out gas exploitation there and the electricity generated is solely for their consumption. I don't think they export power to the National grid. Its more of an embedded generation kind of. Such can be replicated in other states, in partnership with the DISCOs (power distribution companies), because they have available substations, however, the major concern will be sustainable gas availability if you are using gas turbine. Its high time Nigeria explored other source of renewable energy ( solar, wind, coal etc.) to generate power. The Power sector is still a very Green sector waiting to be explore to is fullest. |
