HAS PRESIDENT BUHARI TACKLED THE ELECTRIC POWER PROBLEM SILENTLY

Dear Nigerians,
I have observed in the past one week that the power supply at least in my area has improved significantly. My domain happened to be a place dominated by Christians though ugly notorious for the sales of alcoholic drinks and the Hausa local gin burukutu, and as such it was widely believed that we were neglected by the Muslim government of the day in the state level due to this posture which usually left us in darkness, as neighbouring zones do have adequate power supply as against our locality being served with an obsolete power transformer, even though the government at the centre was a Christian and in fact a Christian governor held sway in the state before this present regime. So how true was this posture?

We have always been neglected in regards to electric power supply to our domain since I came into this vicinity over six years ago. However, in the last couple of days, at least I can attest to the fact that CHANGE has been noticed in the power sector within my immediate residential area. And this led me to ask this question: HAS PRESIDENT BUHARI TACKLED THE ELECTRIC POWER PROBLEM SILENTLY? This is because NO major pronouncement or directive has been seen from this government so far.

Prior to the advent of the current APC government in the centre, ‘NEPA’ as it is been known and addressed by the young ones even those that weren’t given birth when the power company was called National Electric Power Authority NEPA has always been a disappointment to the Nigerian citizens as their hitherto acronym ‘NEPA’ fitly represents Never Expect Power Always. So with the poor power supply to the Nigerian citizens, we already concluded that we will never expect power always from NEPA and as such, it was a normal thing to be left in total darkness by this company at the time.

However when NEPA rebranded and metamorphosed into Power Holding Company of Nigeria PHCN, again Nigerians concluded that their acronym fits very well as they were only releasing electric power to the general public at their own pace since they were HOLDING the power from the general public. So it was never a crime to be denied adequate power supply by the power holding company when it existed and Nigerians started holding their individual power too as the generator importation business boomed during their regime.

So when the power company was recently bundled by the federal government and private investors came into play in the system, Nigerians hived a sigh of relief that at last the poor power problem would be over soon. But alas, the result was the same if not worse as it has always been the case with their predecessors (NEPA and PHCN).

One thing has always been the bane of the power sector in Nigeria and that is CORRUPTION in the system. With the billions of dollars that the Obasanjo government sunk into the power sector and with little or nothing to show for it in the long run, Nigeria has always been seen as a cursed nation as they were so blessed by GOD both in human and natural resources but misused by the greedy few to keep other Nigerians in perpetual poverty. So, who will redeem Nigeria today?

So, Nigerians, as the government of President Buhari clocks fifteen (15) days today Saturday, 13 June 2015, what is the electric power supply situation in your location? Has it improved over the days or it has gone worse? Speak up! In my case there’s noticeable improvement. How about yours?

Cheers.

There has been a tremendous improvement no doubt, but we shouldn't just get over-excited yet. Might be premature.

We can say genuine progress has been made only if we experience same in the peak of the dry season.

For now, it is just too early to say.

I forgot we are in the rainy season when electricity always improves.
I will judge electricity supply when we are in the dry season.

Two possible reasons for the change...

1. It's the rainy season, so there's more than enough water to work with to generate electricity... Kainji dam, etc.
2. The fear of PMB is the beginning of wisdom for anyone in public/government work.

Pure & simple, IMHO! Lobatan.

No he hasn't. Buhari supporters should be above this type of topic, to be honest.
There is a clear metric for measuring improved power situation, and that's in the number of megawatts generated. Not the "I've had light in my area for a week now" anecdotal evidence.

In comparing generated amount, you must also discount improvements from nature with the rains boosting generated power at our hydroelectric dams.

We are still waiting for change in our power sector. It is our hope that Buhari does something , but let's not indulge in unwarranted praise.

Its simple. .... APC was behind the gas pipeline vandalism under GEJ's govt all aimed at sabotage.

APC is now in power and vandalism has stopped. Sooner or later, current opposition will start where APC stopped..... This is Nigeria.

Well, what I can say is that many of our corporations that didn't work in the past was a result of economic sabotage.

And now that there is a leader whom everyone knows will punish such sabotage seriously, many are sitting up to do the right thing.

It is the same reason EFCC is more active nowadays. Same reason, PH refinery will resume work at massive 80% capacity in July when we were earlier told it would resume operation in 2016.

I was patiently waiting for someone to write this and I wasn't disappointed.

You know, the only way some people would come to terms with the fact no one sabotaged Jonathan's efforts is if Buhari as well fails woefully. Otherwise, if he succeeds in any area, especially electricity and security, they'd say APC were the people behind the ex-President's failure, and now they are in control, they've "called their boys to order". cheesy

What can I say?? We just have to live with you guys. smiley

Even people wen dey use I better pass my neighbour all in the quest to worship their god on earth will spill rubbish that since Buhari entered electricity has improved. Slavism is indeed a big curse.

Anyway Buhari should have no reason not to improve Nigeria cos contrary to what people think, jonathan has since laid the foundation and sowed the seed of development. Painfully enough Buhari will reap the benefits unless he really is brain dead as they say

Baba hasn't done anything concerning power, his priority now is security .the improvements in power supply we are experiencing now is just because of the heavy downpours.

You are very correct. Nigerians need to rise above this platform of constant deception of power improvement during the raining season.

Power will only improve when other factors (such as sustainable alternative sources of energy, anti-corruption management, effective power distribution, etc) are set in place which I have not yet noticed by the Buhari government. Until this is in motion, the deception of nature should be discarded in this new age we are all hoping and desirous of.

Which power supply has improved?
With the constant drop in megawatts from the insignificant megawatts we currently generate and vandalisation of infrastructure in most parts of the country.
make person no annoy me this morning.
