Please if you're coming here try and use Fidelity bank BTA to get some dollars with you. Swiping your card here now is outrageous. You can't believe the exchange rate now, it's crazy especially GTBank. Fidelity will give exchange of 199.50 or 200 per $. GTBank fluctuates from 215 to 220 swiping your card.

go under the bridge and meet those "agberos" there, tell them you're new in Lagos while pressing your phone and they will gladly tell you where to get one chance bus for quick movement grin

NB: at your own peril. They should have lekki/Ajah bus there. Innovativeame has the map of lagos with him.

Apologies for the late post guys, got caught up in other matters.

Had my interview last Wednesday in Lagos.

Here it goes.

Got to the embassy at about 5.45 a.m (maybe too early, 6.00 a.m would have been equally fine)

Luckily I found my way to the top of queue for the 6.30 batch (was about number 4 out of 40 people in the room)

Waited for about 30 mins. Interviews began at about 6.45 a.m.

VO: Good Morning...XXXXX(in a not so very polite way)....didn't hear the rest cos the mic wasn't clearly set yet.

Me: Good Morning Madam

VO: What are you going to do in the US?

Me: I am going to pursue an MBA degree at **** University.

VO: How long is this programme

Me: 21 Months

VO: Goes on typing some stuff......

VO: What have you been doing since graduation?

Me: Working for a Nigerian Bank, in **** role

VO: What do you plan to do after school?

Me: Recited some nice answer I had formatted pre-interview

VO: Takes a long look into her PC.......

VO: Did you take any standardized test?

Me: Yes, I took the GMAT

VO: What did you score..Can I see your test scores

Me: Showed it to her

VO: How are you funding your MBA?

Me: A combination of my personal savings, loan i got from a private company in the UK, and support from my family.

VO: How did you hear of this loan company?

Me: Its affiliated to the University I will be attending and specifically designed for international students.

VO: Why do you think this is the right time for an MBA?

Me: To aid my managerial skills and sharpen my business acumen, which I think will be key for achieving success with my LT career objective.

VO: Ok. Your visa has been approved.

Me: Thanks and Have a nice day.

VO: Have a nice day too

5 top lessons for prospective applicants.

1. Learn as much as you can from other people's experiences. Nairaland was extremely helpful in this regard.

2. Pre-interview, scribble down potential interview questions and formulate intelligent answers that are not leading.

3. Keep these answers as short as possible.

4. Be confident. Your confident is enhanced when you are sure all potential pitfalls have been covered.

5. Exercise your faith in God (or whoever you worship).

Have a great day fam and I wish future applicants all the best with their interviews.

bro, please how can i get this UK company that loans international student? I have already sent you a PM

lol..I understand. it's just that I was a bit too ambitious to study pharmacy, but I think I do not have the funding to do so and consular officers knows I can't fund my program . I will go for my masters in chemistry now. I heed your advice now.

Yes, you can. Masters with funding will be more difficult. You'll have to ace the GRE and be relatively humble about your school choice.

If you stand by that pedestrian bridge on same lane with MRS filling station, u should see a bus going to Iyana oworo/Obalende/CMS, when u get to Obalende, you'd be spoilt with enough options of buses going to Lekki/Jakande/Ajah. Board any of them and make sure you're reminding the bus conductor every 15mins that you'd come down at Lekki phase 1 o, else na Ajah market u go land.

please take it easy....there is no doubt we do have 1st class students in chemistry but lecturers in my dept made it very difficult for us,you schooled in Nigeria and you know what happens in our universities, am not using it as an excuse but most times these lecturers makes life difficult for us. The highest CGPA in my set was 3.76 which was 2"1. I have no regrets..I did the best I could.

Hi guys, Visa approved!
Thanks y'all for your help. This forum is wonderful!

I wa the one that posted my mock interview and someone commented: "a stroll in the park".
Yeah, that's what it was for me at the end of the day (a stroll in the park) cos it was a stroll with Jesus and favor worked for me. Lol. I also had a ds160 issue that I said I wantedd to update a new one that won't look like I was helped by an agent; but I still couldn't do that. I just went there trusting Jesus to help me, and yeah, He did; being my Big Brother.

Here's the transcript:
Arrived at exactly 6:30 am. Checked in to final hall around 8:15am; went to the first lady who just captured my finger prints and told me to join the student visa queue.

Finally with the vo...

Me: good morning how are you doing (with a smile, and a sparkle in my eyes) the babe was a fine whitee...no I give it to her, she was pretty, ans she knew I was tripping for her, though I nor tell am o. And besiea I get girlfriend wey I love, wey fine pass am...

Vo: good morning ( blushing); pass me your passport.
Vo: (goes through my documents) okay, you're going to university of... For your mba...
Me: yes I am ( still smiling and looking her straight in the eye; and she was all smiles too)

Lemme better add here that it was God all the way. I kept Psm 40:1-5; Is 54:4, 7; Is 54 as my warring swords; and God showed up for me; like I just came to pick up what He had already finished and packaged for me. Jesus all the way ni o. If you don't have a relationship with Him, please do. I give Him the credit for this.

Vo: which other universitied did you apply to?
Me: I applied to 3 other schoold, alabama a and m, florida state university and florida international university.

Vo: how many gave you admission?
Me: university of bridgeport, and alabama a and m
Vo: so why did you choose UB?
Me: because it gives me exactly what I need to move my buiness to the next level. 1, the course content, one of the core courses is market and research methods, and I need this knowledge for the next phaase of my busineass.

Vo: so what is so special about this school?
Me: (for my mind; nor be the same tin you aske me now and you nor gree make I finish) ( so I finished what I was saying) the faculty is made up of professors who are successful busineass men, and leaders in the business world; the likes of prof. McAdams.

Vo: who will be funding you?
Me: I will be sponsoring my self; though my company has offered to support me financially when I need support, but I am up to the task.

Vo: What do you do?
Me: I'm a business man, I have a company, and I work with the company as the ceo; and we have a board of directors.
Vo: your company or family?
Me: no me and a group of my friends; we're four of us; I am the ceo cos I have the major shares.
Vo: what does your company do?
Me: we have 3 units: 1 ...; 2...and 3...
Vo: when did you finish your 1st degree
Me: 2007
Vo: where?
Me University of ibadan
Vo: what did you study?
Me: Veterinary medicine
Vo: and what have you been doing since then?
Me: : I started my company with my friends and that has kept us busy.
Vo: alright, I will approve your visa, you'll pick it up on thursday. And this form, your i20 keep it, you'll need it when you're travelling
Me: thank you ( with a wider smil) have a nice day
Vo: you're welcome, thank you; and you too.

Na so I bounce comot o, dey feel like son of God.

Thanks to the guy that commented on my mock interview; you made me work on a better more worded answer.

And to everyone in the house; all the best!
The God that did mine will do it for you too in Jesus' name; Amen!

God is awesome!
I told you about my story exactly one year ago and you listened and latched on.
Now see how victorious you are.

Congratulations bruh
The road is still a very long and difficult one, don't leave Him for a second.

I'm super happy for you. Congrats!!!

I think admission approvals are not mainly based on CGPA (SOP, ReSEarch interest, test scores, alumni influence) u can have 2.5/5 on nigeria scale without passing through the WEs scale and get a full funding based on wonderful test scores or a good references..........i no get reach 3.0/5 for cgPa I no pass Gre or toefl buh I got a full masters admission, america is a bit flexible with CGPA compared to canada..
please which schools did you apply to and how did you go about the applications. Thank you

Don't worry. Your lecturers from school cannot control your GRE score, so if you believe you are 1st class or high 2:1 material, you should ace that with nothing less than 320. If you do that, you'll be able to convince the admission committee in US schools that you are better than your CGPA.
