I am a silent reader. Applied for TRV 12th June via paper route (2nd time applicant )and got my medical email today.

My 1st application was well packaged. I logged into mycic everyday, prayed and fasted and I still got refused. This 2nd app is a miracle, I used scanned copies of most of my sponsor's document and did not notarize any of them, no intro letter from my office, nothing excellent in my personal salary account, no letter of explanation but I still got favoured. I submitted the application and partially forgot about it while working harder than normal.

Documents submitted

Application forms
Intro letter from sponsor's employer
Sponsor's acc statements-totalling about £10k and some Naira account.
Sponsor's payslips
Sponsor's investment certificate
Sponsor's landed properties
My employment letter
Personal payslips
2 account statements with about 200, 000
Work id
RSA statement
Educational certificates
Acceptance letter
Transcript
Tution payment reciept
Birth certificate

Finally, I sumitted a 1 page letter addressing reasons for previous denial and referred VO to evidence to negate what the VO previously stated. I didn't even say that I was going to return to nigeria. I wrote that I was going to study further for an MBA and that was all. No further story

For everyone who experienced delay, don't give up and don't stop living your life, God makes things beautiful in his own time..just believe.

@ Justicia, congrats. You have been around for a while too, it's good to read the good news. God bless.

Congratulations guy..... You are right, everything na God favour ni, do you pay full payment of your school fees or part payment, your first application,is it paper or online route...Cheers!!!,... All I know se, Our redeemer lives!

Brother, I'll appreciate it, if you can do that. Please, help us inquire from them what they require. Am going for chemical engineering Ucalgary n Ualberta. Please do you know anyone in either of the schools that can give us or give me guidelines on how to go about it. I mailed some of them n got quick response from a few that they don't have space again n others are yet to reply if there's space or not. My Specialization is reservoir engineering or oil sands. Please, what do you mean by online presence, is it through LinkedIn.

[quote author=Solo8 post=35562644]

I'm not doing post grad so I've never had to look for a supervisor. I have several friends and mentors though that are doing research that I can use in the future if I decide to go that route. I've never asked them for tips on how they pick students because I've known them from yr 1 undergrad. If there are specific type of questions you want me to ask, pass it my way and I'll ask them for you. The only problem is that since you are not here, I can't vouch for you.

My advice is to have a visible presence online. So when you email them and they look you up, they'll know you are serious business and not like the hundreds of others that email them

Aha! So see who has the trust issues now tongue

I actually do shop on eBay quite a bit but never for clothes, I just don't see why risk buying clothes you haven't seen, touched or tried on. However I do buy clothes online from Canadian retailers, shops like roots, old navy, the bay, Adidas,Etc....I usually have been in their stores and know what to expect. I use mostly for tech items from the states or very rarely from England.

You can find most of the food items you mentioned but for reason, they can't just seem to get garri right. Most people just buy the pounded yam powder but I like garri.
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by TheBae: 10:32pm On Jul 06, 2015
Lmao! Are we still talking about yams? How passionate. Nawa
Solo8:

Haha I do. It's hard to find really good yams, I don't even think you can get those here. You know the type only mothers can pick. They sell medium sized average tasting yams for 15 to 20 bucks here.

please for the benefit of someone like me who have the intention of doing my post grad (Phd) in canada, can you please ask for the tips on how they pick students or is it possible for you to help speak with one or two supervisors if they will be interested ?

Alright, I'll try to get some details for you guys as soon as I can. As for online presence, a professional, linkedin, twitter, personal blog/website...just some way for them to see your genuine interest in the sector and the works that you've already done. I am in energy but I'm not in Calgary at the moment, I might have to go out there sometime in the next yr but I'm not sure yet. I think someone like @saxywale might be of more help. He's out in calgary and probably have some more resources on that than I do.

Hahaha. I'm was born in PH and my parents are Igbo. I got yams in my veins...lol.

The thing I miss the most cause I haven't had since I was a kid is edikakong soup with periwinkle and snails. I don't even know where to find periwinkle or know how to cook it, I didn't have the time to find it when I was in naija last yr.

I can't think of any gadgets you'll need that you can't get here for cheaper. For me, the most valuable things are authentic naija food. I've never been able to find quality garri, they basically sell 'chaff' garri for like 10 bucks per 4 cups or something that crazy. So garri, yam, powdered milk, stock fish maybe (but I don't know how to cook, so my mom just brings it for herself)...things like that.

Trust me, you'll miss niaja food.

Nigerian stores scarce for your end? Here I get good Ijebu garri.

Lol eya! Please why is autocorrect changing Edikaikong to Edikakong? Lol. Anyway, I'm sure you're surviving well without it. Now everyone knows the secret pathway to your heart. Yam and Edikaikong tongue

No, there are a bunch of naija/ghana stores here. Even non-african people are getting into the trade. Everywhere I've been too has just been week. Garri is one of the first thing I throw in my luggage once I touch naija. Garri and suya spice.

Thank you for the ideas.
Why Fanshawe?

kennykentipsy:

you are still on track your first degree is in line with what you wanna study as ur post graduate so u are good to go. (i guess u heading to fanshawe college)

depends on the amount on ur sister's acc and inflow the the number of dependants on ur sister eg kids. if she has above what will be enough to taken care of u it's OK. if you wanna use ur sisters friend as ur sponsor u need to really convince the VO why ur sister's friend would be spending alot of amount on u.

as for the province well we aint sure if the province has any influence on visa application cos we ain't VOs and we still don't know their reasons on some denials .we all just trying to put our heads together for a better result as they say 2 heads are better than 1

Good luck

Hi guys, i will like to know how long on average it takes to get a student visa to Canada. I have been made to understand that the admission decision for a course which is to start January next year will be taken in September. Will it be possible to finish the whole process by December if i begin early October? Thanks in advance for you advice.
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 8 by Blackkie: 12:17am On Jul 07, 2015
I got your drift wholly.
Thank you.

Am concerned about the Toronto versus other provinces.

AriseOCompatrot:

As a marketer, you definitely relate with the public on behalf of your organization. The application process allows for you to upload a Letter of Explanation so use that to tie up Mass Comm to Marketing to Public Relations. I think it is quite easily explainable.

On sponsor, depends on how much each of them will state on their sponsorship letter as their contribution to your studies. For example, if your sister has N5m in her SOA and your friend has N7m, and your fees & living expenses are N5m, then your sister can state in her affidavit and letter of sponsorship that she will commit N3m and your friend states that she will commit N2, then your sister will be main sponsor and your friend supporting sponsor, and vice versa.

I don't have any info on province influencing Visa decision. But thinking logically, I won't be surprised if the fact that there are more visa applicants heading to Toronto than to let's say Saskatchewan, that the success rate for Saskatchewan applicants will probably be higher than for Toronto applicants. No facts, no figures, just reasoning.

Cheers!

Team16. I am not in the producing sector(reservoir, production e.t.c) which i believe is your specialization. I am in the EPC sector of the industry. With respect to getting admissions to engineering in U of C, I don't really know as my post graduate degree in Engineering was from the UK and not Canada. British universities do not require potential students to seek out a supervisor before an offer of admission is confirmed. I would advise you contact Edoblakky, he is resuming Mechanical engr masters at U of C this fall. I have also linked him up with a recent graduate of Petroleum Engineering masters at U of C. They might be able to give some recommendations on how to successfully secure a supervisor at the U of C.
