^^What the hell is this?? At this juncture,i think i've had enough of your trashy comments, they mean absolutely nothing to me. Am not posting my comments for people with one dimensional thinking faculty like you. You have obviously seen too much horror movies and characters that you are beginning to sound like one.
If you don't like my comments, pls lay off. I don't apperciate this foolishness.
A shallow minded wh0re calling me a one dimensional thinking person ,must be Tuesday!! I guess f00ls like u r d reason we do not progress in dis country ,always dragging ppl backwards n when corrected ,thinks de r too big for it. I just found out dat I hv been wasting time n data trying to educate a slowpoke. You can't even tell which age we r in n yet u think ur senseless ,worthless comments matter in d opinion of film making. A simple comprehension of d various genres of movies is what u r finding extremely hard to grasp. You don't deserve to hv a conversion with me cos ur brain is filled up with water. U used d AMAA as a yardstick for judging movies Africans can relate to n I gave u a horror movie which was also nominated for d AMAA since u believe only Biafra n juju films should mk d cut. The thing I hate most is some dumb b*tch who refuses to accept d mistakes they made n take corrections ,rather de continue to incessantly pee in dia pants in public. Like I said b4 b*tch pls keep ur troglodytic opinions to ur self ,nobody gives two fцcks about it.

Seriously, calling a lady, LovePeddler and bitchees,is so Old Fashioned.

Still on Novel adaptation.
Nollywood movie producers need to lift up stories from our literature. Till date, nothing has been done about the most popular novel to come out of Nigeria- Things fall apart.
We only had a mini Tv series of it in the late 80s.
Look at a novel like Purple Hibsiscus- about Military dictatorship and political strife, probably centered around the Abacha era. Why has it not been adapted into a movie yet. The movie about Half of a Yellow Sun was quite disappointing.
Soza Boy by Ken Saro Wiwa which focuses on war from the eyes of a common man is supposed to be adapted into a movie by now.
Africans/Nigerians are quite religious. Why are we yet to see quality Evangelical/religious movies told from the Nigerian perspective?
Why not make a quality apocalptic movie about the end of the world or life after life. These themes are still relevant in hollywood and elsewhere.
We keep hearing about the son of anarchy and the new world order. Why not make a blockbuster about the Anti-Christ. The kind of movie that will make even the mamaput seller down the street to go to the cinemas. Till the data, only Ghana has thought about doing something like that. We want our cinemas to be flooded with people then do something that Nigerians and Africans can relate to. With time, people will go leave the Asaba movies and go for the quality New nollywood movies that are believable and realistic. Monster planes and flying ships doesn't appeal to that fresh graduate on the streets looking for employment or that young man that has not been paid for 6months. I guess that is why people still patronize Asaba movies because they are able to connect with the common Nigerian. Our theatre plays and series are doing much better in identifying with lots of people.
Hiring a group of actors trying to speak in a foreign accent has never fetched any country awards.
Crime and Actions thrillers are good and believable when they are done right, otherwise they only fetch you a pat on the back by movie reviewers.

Nobody is preventing u from airing ur views but u will be prevented from doing so if d said views are worthless. Additionally, when i look at some bollywood movies that have been to crossover to the Oscars or reputable film festivals and awards. I see that they still make an effort to keep it original and distinct.
Take Lagaan, for instance, a bollywood movie that was able to blend indian romance/dance, cricket sports and colonialism in one movie. The movie did not only win awards but had positive reviews overall. That is where a movie like Oct 1 is taking us...themes related to country!
Other bollywood movies that has crossed over are Slum Dog Millionaire and Bombay Dream.
Come on, Hollywood is still looking at Interstellar. A movie like Ojuju will fetch you reviews, nice try comments and probably nice visual effects and cinematography. Am looking at movies that will crack hollywood and take us to the White House, that is what Black November has been able to do.
Re: The Nollywood Industry Is Dying Slowly by Ihuomadinihu: 9:03am On Jul 15, 2015
As for the Asaba movies. Someone said stop buying them. I don't think people will stop buying them. Rather let us look at some elements that has made them popular and incoporate them into our new nollywood movies. Let the popular Asaba actors, get into acting school, polish their acting skills and join their mates in new nollywood. Maybe, people will stop patronizing it when they do not see their favourite actors in it. That is what people like Genevive, Omotola; Ramsey and Uche Jumbo have done.
Why do these Asaba movies remain relevant to people? That should be investigated and some of the findings should be blended into the new industry. It's really impossible to kill an exisiting framework and build a new one.
As it stands the so called Asaba movies were what attracted international attention to nollywood and penetrated the Caribbeans in the first place before the coming of new nollywood. They already have a large market across Nigeria and Africa,if you don't patronize them, some other people will. There are themes that are quite popular in those Asaba movies, like Sexual exploitation and Domestic abuse. That is what Uche Jumbo and Desmond Elliot were able to incoporate into their award winning movies. Just lift up those themes turn them into a quality movie and the market of Asaba movies will decrease.

*Piracy*.
Nollywood is not the only film industry plagued with piracy and poor distribution units. Hollywood has lost billions of dollars cos of piracy. Wolf of Wall Street was the most pirated movie of 2014. Nollywood probably has to study how other film industries are fighting piracy and adopt the existing models already on ground.
Am suggesting that we have fewer movie distribution units. When it comes to online download of movies, maybe the producers should have a unique code sent directly to your email which should be destroyed after downloading. I believe the present administration is up and ready to fight piracy,so that is left for them to tackle.
Away from piracy, am more interested in the fact that Nollywood is not represented at the Cannes film festival. We are talking about the 3rd largest film industry in the world! But other countries like Niger,Congo and South Africa were active and represented.

to avoid dragging dis argument further I will drop one last comment to close it. I can see u don't hv any respect for ur mother (if u even hv one) n it says a lot about how much of a dog sh*t u r. U think dat being a woman automatically gives u d privilege of respect? dat I should start regarding any aSshole in skirt as a responsible fellow. I guess common sense is not dat common. I don't think the Nfvcb is really doing enough to get us exposed in the international scene. Why can't we be represented at the international festivals. How much does it take to rent a stand? There are better things to do other than censoring movies and videos.
These film events are where top distributors, marketers and producers mingle and exchange ideas. Nigeria's abscence doesn't really tell good about nollywood which is supposed to be the face of Africa. Even when people expose their movies ,they do that on personal/individual sponsorship.
We need funds from the government and public and private establishments,if we want to see quality nollywood movies.
The top actors and actresses should be given roles only based on merit.
While diversity of genres is commendable, we should keep it strictly African. Nothing stops us from having an African Scific or incoporating mythicism or basic Nigerian lifestyle in our stories.
Socially relevant themes should be given more attention, casting a group of pretty actors with an accent wouldn't take nollywood anywhere. How distinct must nollywood be from Western movies for it to remain appreciated by everyone is the left for the movie producers to tackle.

I equally studied studied that book and am aware of certain ideas that can be incoporated in a Nigerian fantasy movie.
Keep your opinions to yourself. If nollywood depends on people like you for insights then it's going nowhere. I expect you to give reasonable views about this topic. Personal attacks and disparaging remarks have become your trade mark on this thread. Crap load of bullshit! You just keep repeating yourself! What do you know about Nollywood that others don't know?
I don't have the patience to go through every worthless comment you post!
That is what happens when people have an overblown self worth! The movies you have in mind are not taking us to Oscars or the the White house.

There is something called ignoring people's view when it doesn't fit into yours.

Yes, Africans will continue to be seen as backward when you jump from relevant issues into things that are worthless to a developing Nation. Backwards, cos we can't interpret our stories and turn them into a movie but waste resources on a genre that mean nothing to most people out there.
With people like you,Oscars and international awards is not coming to Nigeria anytime soon.

And the old nollywood got us those international awards right. You talk of oscars as if you have the slightest idea what it's about. You just sit down and think it's soo easy in the movie sector. Any writer is free to explore any idea. Aliens are perceived extra terrestrial beings and exploring any idea on that isn't limited to a specific country. If a nigerian film maker wants to make a movie about mutation or mutated beings is he as free as air to. You don't just sit down and bash anyone for exploiting his creativity because you have known. Adaptations from books aren't as easy as you think they are and at least there's a movie adapted from a book. You don't just like what you can't understand, it's a pity. It's a relief to see that our movie makers are now exploring fresh ideas other than rituals. How many hollywood movies are produced in a year that talk about the civil war, they explore everything. Watch Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter and see how they blended history with imagination. How many hollywood movies focus on declaration of the American independence, yet hypocrites like you appreciate their works. But when an African decides to make us of his imagination, you criticise him. Watch the Ojuju movie and tell me it isn't different to what we are used to seeing. You criticised mirror boy, I doubt you grasped the plot of that movie. Appreciate the power of imagination and stop limiting yourself.

You just giving yourself headache over nothing, really. Why put words into my mouth?
We all agree that nollywood is evolving but it should be an instrument to tell our stories. Kunle Afolayan is thinking of weaving a story about a popular Primary school textbook. That is the kind of creativity the world is looking out for. Till date , Hollywood is still making movies about Martin Luther and the Black Panthers. Nollywood should be a mirror of the Nigerian/African society and Lifestyle.
Why limit movies to contemporary issues. I mean military dictatorship just happened some years ago in Nigeria, using your American independence stuff holds no water here! We have relevant issues like terrorism and militancy, movie producers should be able to make something out of that with better technical skills out there.
Hypocrites like you have a problem with African lifestyle, period! What's your problem with Rituals and Divinatiion? These issues are still relevant to the common man out there, maybe you are out of touch with reality. They can be blended into our movies, just like how China and Bollywood are blending in their respective lifestyles.
You claim to be a movie enthusiast, yet you are not making sense at all.
Aliens are perceived as extra terrestial beings, don't we have creatures, animals, legends that are perceived as same in Nigeria. Why make a movie about your aliens, when we have local aliens/ideas or creatures to explore here?
Sit down and think like a Nigerian for once. Just checked your profile and could only see tales of batman, kalus, elijah, games and a whole lot of nonesense. It's unbecoming!
If you want an alien movie go and get one custom made for you.
Nigerians will readily appreciate themes related to Nigeria.
South Africa got an Oscar and are producing better movies, why can't we. Don't tell me that nonesense of how hard Oscar is, it's because we haven't produced any Nigerian movie that meets certain criteria.
Am surprised you are using my words like ''blending''. That shows you finally understand my message! Smh!

So you want to see amadioha, oduduwa, ajaka, sango on my profile before you'd agree I'm Nigerian. I'm a fan of creativity and good stuff. Sorry I don't limit myself. If we come down to Nigerian myths and legends I'm confident I'd still floor you. Aliens are extra terrestrial, that means out of this world. And Nigeria is among this world....

Amadioha, Sango etc are African gods. You are out of touch with African culture, just accept it! Which African group does not have tales of creatures visiting them from out of this world?
The joke is on you....let me hear word abeg! Go and make one and let's see where it takes you.
Hollywood wannabe....what's wrong with having superhero movies around Sango or Amadioha? You wanna be more catholic than the Pope?
Anti African Hypocrites like you will sit down in the cinema for hours watching Thor movies. What is the equivalent of Thor in Nigeria, silly? Can't we have the same scific movie and blend in Sango or Amadioha. Even if i have to pay to see a scific,i want to be able to identify certain characters.

FYI.. I'm working on that. This is new nollywood vs old nollywood right. You're on the side of old nollywood. One of your silly point is that you want to see books adapted into movies, maybe you don't know but there is one; a product of new nollywood. Maybe you don't know. So you just argued on the side of new nill without knowing. You also want a movie depicting history and colonialism, 'oct 1' ' amazing grace '. You want one about African myths, 'figurine'... seeing that you have no reasonable point. You're advocating for a movie adapted from tutuola's the palm wine drinkard. How many old nollywood movies explored these ideas? If you want to know about Nigerian myths and legends, I'd be happy to put you through for no charge. Allow movie makers run wild with their imagination and stop being a back sit driver..

Mtcheww...you are now dragging this argument or probably don't wanna let go cos of your exaggerated self esteem. I also mentioned Ben Okri and Nnedi Okorafor but you wanna act like you are blind. That's your business. I've made my point, you take it or leave it. It's interesting to see that you have no superior point or argument whatsoever!
Am not even talking about old nollywood, stop dragging me back.
Hollywood make movies based on myths, those Elfes,Dwarfs and Lepracauns are Western myths. You suddenly want Nollywood to do aliens and Thor? It's a pity. We have enough myths,if you are looking for one.

Yes,i want nollywood to explore African myths seeing that hollywood have their own version. I want to see more movies on Colonialism and British Expedition, Neocolonialism, Terrorism,Millitancy, Political violence.
You can keep your silly Kalus and Elijah for yourself. Reasonable people want to see more African stories, they are the ones getting nominated and accolades on the international scene.
