Kids that age are very adventurous and hyper active bouncing from pillar to post and creating a whole hell lot of noise if they happen to locate another partner in crime and keeping track of them without putting them on this sort of leash is next to impossible, I know because I live with some in my building and they are their parents nightmare, and remember no matter how hard you try, you can't make your child's environment completely child friendly and even if you do, their natural curiosity will lead them out of that zone eventually and setting limits and boundaries for them will only increase their curiosity and this I can remember even about myself, so those leashes which appear inhumane to you, are an adults way of coping with an infants possibly dangerous hyper activity

I will mould his life into something big using his limitations as strengths for a better him

I and my twin brother are the first kids my mum had. My dad was far from home then cos of work, which makes my mum the only one with two kids at a time. It wasn't easy for her, but she never did this to us. My dad discovered how stressful it was for her, and got her a maid to help. But the maid maltreated us even when we did nothing wrong. Nobody advised my mum before she asked the maid to leave. I don't know how she did it, but after the experience with the maid, she got the strength to look after us herself, despite her busy schedule.

What am I saying? I see most parents who do this as being to lazy to handle their kids. Discipline your child, and he/she will give you rest. Not full rest, but Optimal.

You're most likely from a middle income family and above, those options are viable but only if you can afford them, my point being, not everyone can afford them, most people, single parents included live below $1/day.
